$500 per Day Fine for Having a Garden

When unrestrained government runs amok, there is no guessing what you might be forbidden from doing with your own property:

In November, Local 6 broke the story about the controversial garden after the city [of Orlando] told the Helvenstons their 25-by-25-foot front yard vegetable garden was not in compliance with the city’s code.

After hundreds of emails supporting the couple flowed in and initially allowing the Helvenstons to keep their garden, saying it will hold off on violations, the city has since asked the couple to uproot the garden and replace it with a lawn or face fines.

Even the sacred polar bears take a back seat when it comes to petty bureaucrats micromanaging every aspect of our lives. Says Jason Helvenston:

“Our Patriot Garden pays for all of its costs in healthy food and lifestyle while having the lowest possible carbon footprint. It supplies valuable food while being attractive. I really do not understand why there is even a discussion. They will take our house before they take our Patriot Garden.”

It is likely to come to that. The fine will be up to $500 per day, starting tomorrow. Defending themselves will cost even more in legal fees.

No matter how they play it, people trying to mind their own business lose, and the paper-pushers win.

On a tip from Muddypaw.

“… the lowest possible carbon footprint. ”

There’s the answer: don’t call it a “vegetable garden”. Re-classify it as a “carbon offset production facility”!

Then all the leftists will run down to city hall, dress like fish, wave signs, and scream at the top of their lungs until the city stops harassing this new source of valuable carbon offsets.

So, how does the Muslim-in-Chief plan to deal with so-called “gun control”? Well, in the same way he does everything else. He’ll simply pick up his pen and write his own laws! Again! Why bother with annoying little things like congress or the Constitution. And, now that guns and legal gun owners are being fully demonized by the Left and their MSM, the weak, gullible, and mindless public will most likely go along with him. Again.

  3. Spider says:

The weaker, more gullible, and more tolerant the people become, the more oppressive the govt. becomes.

Q: How oppressive do you think this Marxist govt. can become in the next four years?

A: see; Venezuela, N. Korea, Iran, etc.

Q: Is there any limit to the amount of abuse the American people will tolerate?

    A: Apparently not.

“Paper pushers”? Paper pushers! These are MARKISTS!!! Wake up.

  5. Lyle says:

As Dennis Prager has said for years, “The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.”

There’s also a great video to watch on this subject.

Now that Marxists are in control of the country, and with the MSM covering them, radical Leftists are coming out of the woodwork to get all their off-the-wall agendas furthered.

Radical gay activists of the Left, after having same-sex marriage forced on us, don’t want to be left out. So what do they want now? Not much. They just want the Catholic Church to be labeled a “hate group”! Like the rest of the Left, gays feel that anyone or anything that disagrees with them must be filled with hate, and should be officially labeled as such.

It’s funny how they’re always looking for hate, yet they never look at the true source of all the hate. Themselves.

  7. Gawd I hate these independent-minded clinger types, why can’t they just nuzzle up to the government teat like everybody else?

    …the lowest possible carbon footprint…

Yet the Left isn’t listening anymore.

Proof again of what I’ve been saying for years: the sacred, politically correct issues (i.e. environmentalism, anti-racism, anti-Christianity, pro-abortion, anti-Second Amendment, homosexuality, feminism, etc etc etc) that have been endlessly rammed down our throats by the Left are only temporary means to an end.

I’d really like to ask my moonbat friends who are crowing over the possibility of Hobby Lobby being fined over a million dollars a day by the Obama administration, how they feel about THIS story. If they can stick it to corporations, they can and WILL do it to individuals.

    Jester is CORRECT!!
They could care less about their pet causes and impediments to progress.
Occupy and other useful idiots will be so surprised when they are no longer needed.

I have longed argued that the communist sentiments that seem so prevalent these days have their root at the lowest levels – community covenants/rules. When people think its is ok to tell their neighbor what kind of mailbox to have, they don’t react so strongly when higher government starts ordering people around.
