The Mormons, the Romneys, and the Left

A Roman Catholic, I freely admit I don’t know much about the Mormon religion aside from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir at Christmas and that Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney professes the Mormon faith.

My wife and I toured Salt Lake City, Utah a few years ago and had the opportunity to visit the majestic, 119 year old Salt Lake Temple, a exalted tribute to a church dedicated to helping the poor at the same time it requires its membership to remain celibate until marriage, avoid alcohol, caffeine and drugs, and engage in worldwide humanitarian missions.

Although the Mormon Tabernacle Choir has long been a holiday favorite in America, the 15 million members of Mitt Romney’s Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have long been held in a suspicion borne of an ignorance of the church’s precepts and teachings.

I would refer the reader to the church’s website, http://mormon.org/, for more information on who Mormons are, what they believe, and what they have accomplished in their unorthodox but very Christian ministry, almost all of which is antithetical to what Leftists believe, think and practice.

It is precisely Mormonism’s strict beliefs that grate most on the Left, although they cloak their religious disdain by objecting to secular matters. Thus, Mitt Romney has been subjected to greater criticism than any presidential candidate since JFK.

Romney has been castigated, ridiculed, sometimes clandestinely, sometimes publicly, by President Barack Obama’s ultra-liberal mainstream media despite claims that they are ultra-tolerant of virtually everything and everyone–except for Republicans and conservatives–principally because he represents all that liberals are not.

Reflecting the extent of Leftist sick venom, liberals haven’t been content with attacking the candidate; they have violated their hero’s injunction against involving families in political campaigns by abusing Romney’s former teenage sweetheart and wife of 33 years, Ann Lois Davies Romney.

Mrs. Romney was recently attacked with the same Democrat talking point applied to her husband–being out of touch with the real world due to the family’s success a bnd prosperity–and for having the temerity to be a stay-at-home mom for their five sons instead of pursuing a carreer.

That perceived crime was almost as grave to liberals as her opposition to abortion and support for other conservative positions.

The president ran for cover following that misogynistic charge which ran counter to the administration’s contention that Republicans are the people waging a war on women. Hilary Rosen soon retracted her idiotic statement, almost as quickly as Obama flack Jay Carney denied Rosen was an Obama lackey even though she has been to the White House dozens of times in the past three years.

Compared to other vile insults hurled at Ann Romney by liberals, calling her out of touch was a compliment.

Mrs. Romney has been labeled by Obama supporters as a ”c*nt,” “bitch,” and “whore,” among other disgusting characterizations, and all because the Left considers a decent mother who chose not to work outside her home as beneath their concept of dignity. And, of course, because she is Mr. Romney’s wife.

    Romney’s unforgivable sin? . . . (Read more at http://www.genelalor.com/blog1/?p=21969.)

If this is the standard, I’m skuzzy pond scum, roach droppings, carbuncle ooze, or God forbid, lao’s breath.

Our nation is under attack, not by Islam, not by Progressives, and not by Obama – those are battles.

We are in the midst of a spiritual and ideological war.

The war is whether an individual may be allowed to think for themselves and direct their future, or whether a collective of persons will dictate for them.

For the first time in human history – 300 years ago – some simple men envisioned – and miraculously put into print – a vision of the former.

We are beneficiaries of that enabling act – the Constitution – and duty requires us to preserve it.

DERSHOWITZ BLASTS ZIMMERMAN PROSECUTION: ‘NOT ONLY IMMORAL, BUT STUPID’ Unless the fix is in, there really can only be one legitimate verdict on the charge preferred.

With ABC News’ release of the George Zimmerman photo showing blood flowing freely from his head, the question becomes whether Angela Corey, the prosecutor in the case, had access to the photo before charging Zimmerman with second-degree murder.

I have another question – ABC released the earlier video showing, they claimed, no injury, though that turned out to be a lie.

DID ABC HAVE THIS PHOTO, OR DID THEY KNOW OF IT, WHEN THEY RELEASED THAT VIDEO AND CLAIMED “NO INJURY”?

The arrest affidavit did not mention the photograph, or the bleeding, gashes, and bruises on Zimmermans’ head. Professor Alan Dershowitz of Harvard Law School stated upon release of the arrest affidavit that it was “so thin that it won’t make it past a judge on a second degree murder charge … everything in the affidavit is completely consistent with a defense of self-defense.”
After the release of the photo, however, Dershowitz went much further, telling Breitbart News that if the prosecutors did have the photo and didn’t mention it in the affidavit, that would constitute a “grave ethical violation,” since affidavits are supposed to contain “all relevant information.”
Dershowitz continued, “An affidavit that willfully misstates undisputed evidence known to the prosecution is not only unethical but borders on perjury because an affiant swears to tell not only the truth, but the whole truth, and suppressing an important part of the whole truth is a lie.”
When asked if it made a difference whether the prosecution had the bloody photograph at the time they charged Zimmerman, Dershowitz responded, “We do know that there were earlier photographs before the affidavit was done that strongly suggested blood on the back of the head, and we know the police had first access to him, so if there was blood they [the prosecution] would know about it …

Mort Zuckerman: President Obama’s Economic Programs Have Failed

America has long been a country where almost everyone, including the poor and unskilled, could get a job. Given the will to do a reasonable day’s work, a job was a passport to economic and social well-being; it was the fount of self-esteem and the foundation of family life. Indeed, work was Life.

More than 15 million Americans no longer have that passport to Life. Think of it as roughly the entire population of the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Arkansas, Iowa, and Oklahoma, all standing idle—every man, woman, and child. The traditional breadwinners, namely men between the ages of 25 and 54, are among those hardest hit. According to an Investor’s Business Daily/TIPP poll, some 25 percent of households include someone who is unemployed and looking for work. As well as laying waste to work, to the equivalent of losing every job created in the last decade, the Great Recession has visited us with reduced incomes, declining home equity, and a growing contraction in credit.

And MAKE NO MISTAKE: THIS IS OBAMA’S FAULT, not Bush’s fault!

Hyperbole Mitt Romney drew a line in the oil sands on Friday, focusing on the controversial Keystone pipeline project opposed by the White House and saying, “I will build that pipeline if I have to myself.”

I’ve met a lot of Mormons – and not just here in North America but elsewhere, too. While I’ve heard stories (as we all have what with the splinter Mormon sects who still practice polygamy) about some questionable Mormons, each one that I’ve met really impressed me as being an intelligent, well-rounded individual.

I can’t say I understand how anyone would believe parts of what they believe, but at the same time it does seem to be working for them – they tend to have stronger, better families than the average in society, at least from what I’ve seen. And they do it while integrating into society, unlike the Amish. So I sort of look the other way concerning some of the more ridiculous (IMHO – and I could be wrong) beliefs they espouse and generally find them to be really good people overall.

Romney’s religion really was not and likely never will be an issue with me.

TSA Treats 95-Year-Old Wheelchair-Bound Veteran Like a “Terrorist,” $300 Stolen

Wheelchair-bound 95-year-old veteran Omer Petti and his 85-year-old partner Madge Woodward were treated like terrorists by TSA agents at San Diego International airport, ostensibly so TSA workers could separate them from $300 dollars in cash which subsequently went missing.

“Can you imagine an 85-year-old lady and 95-year-old retired Air Force Major in wheelchairs being treated like terrorists?” Petti asked the Detroit News’ Marney Keenan.

Given the TSA’s recent history – yes – veterans and old people are two of the federal agency’s primary targets and are routinely subjected to intense harassment and abuse.

After Petti had removed his shoes, belt, clothing and other accessories he was ordered by a TSA agent to place a money clip containing $300 in folded bills into its own separate bin.
After walking through a metal detector, both Petti and Woodward were patted down, with Woodward being taken to a separate room for extra “screening” due to the fact that residue from her nitroglycerin heart pills had set off an alarm.

“When I was patted down, I’ve never before been touched in every part of my body before,” Woodward said.

After TSA workers had routed through their personal belongings and fondled their every body part , the two were allowed to leave but Petti noticed the $300 was missing.

“When I told him we were going to miss our flight he asked me if I was objecting or refusing his request.” Petti says. “I said: ‘No, I’d do anything I was asked, I would just like to know where my $300 went.’…”

You can certainly make any claim you wish. However, if you produce a 500+ page book based upon that find…now you are talking. The book needs to claim to be history, it needs to not conflict with existing history accounts. It would also be interesting if you addressed a wide variety of faith and moral issues in such a way as to support and expound upon topics found in the Bible. Including a bunch of stores that would promote people’s faith in Jesus Christ as the Savior of the World would also be helpful.

Be prepared to be ridiculed over your book and the claims that you make. Even though we live in the age of enlightenment, a lot of folks might take issue with you book, but you better be willing to stand behind it, even if it means sacrificing everything you have.

The office of the Los Angeles County coroner has completed its investigation into the death of Andrew Breitbart on March 1, and has confirmed that he died of natural causes, namely heart failure.
Chief Coroner Investigator Craig Harvey told Breitbart News that the final autopsy report would be released next week.

A press release issued by the Department of Coroner (below) notes: “No prescription or illicit drugs were detected. The blood alcohol was .04%,” a negligible amount.

    Dear President Obama:

You scare me because you want to kill the American capitalist goose that lays the golden egg which provides the highest standard of living in the world.

You scare me because you have begun to use ‘extortion’ tactics against certain banks and corporations.

You scare me because your own political party shrinks from challenging you on your wild and irresponsible spending proposals.

You scare me because you will not openly listen to or even consider opposing points of view from intelligent people.

You scare me because you falsely believe that you are both omnipotent and omniscient.

You scare me because the media gives you a free pass on everything you do.

You scare me because you demonize and want to silence the Limbaughs, Hannitys, O’Relllys and Becks who offer opposing, conservative points of view.

You scare me because you prefer controlling over governing.

Yet another fact he finds it convenient to ignore and necessary to lie about if ever confronted with it.

Sure what with the timing it looked suspicious, but even with all the silly speculation, it was widely reported and well known that Breitbart had diet and exercise issues and a history of heart problems. He was ripe for a heart attack and, frankly, it could very well have been a murder BUT, if the coroner is telling the truth (possible but unlikely that they’re not), at least the truth as they know it, no big surprise.

However, one can also have all the signs of impending heart attack due to coronary artery disease and yet still be given an induced heart attack that is then falsely attributed.

So, really, this proves nothing. What the coroner did was they issued an OPINION. I happen to believe it, but that doesn’t guarantee it’s correct.

    —————————
It’s notoriously hard to prove a negative. I don’t suppose they CAN prove beyond ANY doubt that there is ZERO chance Brietbart was murdered and it was made to look like a heart attack based on his known health problems. Still there’s also no evidence, reported anyway, that supports that idea – but then again, if I were to want to find a way to kill people and make it look like a heart attack I’d find a way that didn’t leave traces, couldn’t be proven. That was, in fact, the plot line of Tom Clancy’s novels – that a special, “above the law” group of government operatives could do just that. I know of no such analog in real life – at least, I know of none my security clearance will allow me to discuss publicly.

Still what is the point of our village idiot? That there are people in the world who make stupid comments on the INTERNET? One has to only read his comments, any of them, to get that point! Indeed in one of the multiple posts he’s made on that topic here today (not the first I saw, so I responded initially unaware of it) he quoted several comments by others, apparently here, from his vast indexed store of MOONBATTERY history.

While it doesn’t mean much, it has not been proven to the point of certainty that Brietbart wasn’t murdered and it was successfully made to look like a natural death. I seriously doubt he was really murdered – even Obama can’t be that stupid – but the simple fact is it hasn’t been and can’t be proven that he wasn’t.

He lives on, anyway – others have taken up his fight against the moonbats of the world.

As kooky as you and even I might think some aspects of Mormonism may be, it’s funny how Mormons tend to be well-adjusted, good family, successful people in general. That suggests that despite the nonsense involved with that religion, that I think South Park captures brilliantly, Mormons on the whole still tend to be good people and the better for their faith, with of course the notable exception to the rule here and there as with every faith. Compare and contrast that with the rule with atheists, who tend to be evil people who do great harm to the people and the planet in general.

I never PERSONALLY met a Mormon I didn’t like. I’ve heard of a few questionable ones, but name any faith and I bet I’ve heard of more questionable ones from others. We had a Catholic President and that didn’t turn out so bad. Unfortunately he was murdered so perhaps we need to try the Catholics again and actually let him serve out his one or two terms this time. We had a Baptist President and that really sucked. He was booted after one. We had a… what was Clinton? Some Protestant denomination or other, if it wasn’t just an act. Anyway, that was a real train wreck despite the lies to suggest otherwise. The only thing that kept Clinton in check was the balance of power in the House and Senate during his time in office.

Now we’ve had a… what is the religion (other than Islam) that Barry O’Sotero practiced under Wright? Oh yeah, Black Liberation Theology. So after a few years of Black Liberation Theology drifting towards Islam, how we doing?

Unemployment high, disability and food stamp rolls exploding, people actually giving up trying to get jobs, the dollar crashing, our image around the world tarnished so bad it may not recover.

    That’s pretty bad!

  • Bob Roberts

NOTE: Apparently Clinton was also a Baptist. I thought he was some other Protestant sect.

  • Sam Adams

I was listening to Beck’s radio show and heard the following suggestions as to how Romney should treat his religious affiliation:

“I attended but I wasn’t really paying attention.”

“They didn’t say any of that stuff when I was there.”

___________________________ add any of the excuses that Obama used to justify his attendance at Rev. Wright’s church.

    “Bob Roberts says:April 21, 2012 at 11:44 am”

The regressives WON’T leave religion out of anything; like race, it’s an obsession with them.

This was not written by me – rather buy a local person who may or may not want to be named in this space so I’ll just attribute “anonymous”:

The gay federal judge who refused to recuse himself despite his personal interest in the issue involved and who overruled Prop 8 despite more than 200 years of Federal legal history and precedent>/b? did not do so on the basis of any explicit U.S. law or explicit U.S. Constitutional statement. Rather, he overruled Prop 8 by claiming that it violated a new and original application of the Constitution. Yet today, that judge is publicly admitting his personal and prejudicial opinion that the time for allowing “gay marriage” has come. That is not a viewpoint based upon any explicit provision or statement in the U.S. Constitution; rather, it expresses the imposition of a private and personal opinion – which is not the function or the authority of any judge.

Despite all the misleading claims that the issue is about equality of treatment for gays, no legal inequality existed. In fact the judge’s decision reduces to the assertion that those in a sterile same-sex union have a right to call that distinctive and sterile same-sex union a marriage, despite the fact that everyone really knows that marriage is the name of the male-female union, whose nature is biologically fertile and that typically produces children. Thus, the first and most important secular purpose of marriage is to encourage, promote, and support the responsible use of the male-female procreative power.

And it is trivially obvious that the state has a very strong interest in encouraging, promoting, and supporting the responsible use of the male-female procreative power. Biology, not bigotry is the reason that valid marriage is and can only be a union between a man and a woman! Not even the most tyrannical of governments can alter the fact that secular marriage does not exist solely or even primarily to confer or protect a set of rights created and supported only by government power.

By now no one except a clinically-certifiable imbecile with a strap-on drool cup, or a liberal, could believe that BO is not a card-carrying communist.

Even if he had his card sealed along with the rest of his foul dog-eating background it wouldn’t make any difference since he follows the tenets of Karl Marx to the letter.

    .

The three major industries Marx wanted complete control of was education, medical care and the banks.

    .

I don’t know if Marx understood how complicit these industries would be in complying with government nationalization, but Bank of America has been leading a cavalcade of clown cars into BO’s appropriation slaughterhouse.

Their latest 3-stooges act has been to swear to never loan money to one of their oldest gun manufacturer customers bc their customer manufactures guns.

The decision appears to be completely motivated by their fondness for BO-butt-kissing.

    http://hotair.com/archives/2012/04/20/bank-of-america-tells-gun-manufacturer-it-no-longer-wants-their-business/

BOA has been long complicit in making moronic decisions in order to ally themselves with the communist -in-chief.

In addition to this latest anti-business pomposity, M Malkin points out that BOA:

    – raked in a middle-of-the-night, taxpayer-funded $45 billion banking bailout in 2008 and an estimated $931 billion in secret federal emergency loans.

    – gave its biggest contributions to Barack Obama totaling $421,000.

    – agreed to pay $50 million in restitution payments for Countrywide subprime loan fraudster and Democratic fat cat Angelo Mozilo and one of his underlings.

    – payoffs to self-declared bank terrorist outfit NACA (the taxpayer-subsidized Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America).

    – capitulated to a Jesse Jackson shakedown. And it forked over at least $2 million to the ACORN Housing Corporation — which has had a long history of fraud and abuse that goes back decades.

    – teamed up with the open-borders lobby to offer illegal alien home loans.

    .

I will be one of the first in line to short* these bastards when the time comes.

    .

    *Liberals,

“short” does not mean hiring a White Witch to turn BOA into a vertically-challenged individual—- but you’re close.

  • Bloodless Coup

Government can now deem virtually anyone a terrorist for almost any reason.
