Did you notice what an issue the left made of war dead – that is, until Obama got elected, then suddenly they more or less seem to have stopped covering that aspect of ongoing conflicts for the most part:

Although President Obama has only served 39 months in office, 69 percent of the U.S. military fatalities in the more then 10-year-old war in Afghanistan have occurred on his watch.

The path to bin Laden’s death didn’t start with Obama – as it turns out, this is one thing Obama really should blame on Bush.

This administration built on work painstakingly pursued for many years before Obama was elected — and without this work, Obama administration officials never would have been in a position to authorize the strike on Abbottabad, Pakistan, that resulted in bin Laden’s overdue death.

In 2004, an al-Qaeda terrorist was captured trying to communicate with Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the leader of the terror organization’s operations in Iraq. That captured terrorist was taken to a secret CIA prison — or “black site” — where, initially, he was uncooperative. After being subjected to some “enhanced interrogation techniques” — techniques authorized by officials at the most senior levels of the U.S. government and that the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel confirmed were consistent with U.S. law — the detainee became compliant. He was not one of the three al-Qaeda operatives who underwent waterboarding, the harshest of the hard measures.

The trail to bin Laden started in a CIA black site — all of which Obama ordered closed, forever, on the second full day of his administration.

That trail was only found due to information obtained from hardened terrorists who agreed to tell us some (but not all) of what they knew after undergoing harsh but legal interrogation methods. Obama banned those methods on Jan. 22, 2009.

  • Bob Roberts

    Oh, and this:

No single tactic, technique or approach led to the successful operation against bin Laden. But those who suggest it was all a result of a fresh approach taken after Jan. 20, 2009, are mistaken.

    —————
Now it is true that Obama set up a “fall guy” to handle the operation, someone he could throw under the bus if things went south, then he gave it the green light.

But he was only in a position to do so because of SEVERAL THINGS (some of which were not mentioned here) DONE UNDER THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION THAT CAME UNDER FIRE FROM OBAMA AND DEMOCRATS.

  • lao

bobby, as I pointed out previously, your claims about the effectiveness of “enhanced interrogation” AKA, torture, re the bin Laden investigation, are phony.

Bin Laden’s death and the debate over torture

Former attorney general Michael Mukasey recently claimed that “the intelligence that led to bin Laden .?.?. began with a disclosure from Khalid Sheik Mohammed, who broke like a dam under the pressure of harsh interrogation techniques that included waterboarding. He loosed a torrent of information — including eventually the nickname of a trusted courier of bin Laden.” That is false.

The first mention of Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti — the nickname of the al-Qaeda courier who ultimately led us to bin Laden — as well as a description of him as an important member of al-Qaeda, came from a detainee held in another country, who we believe was not tortured. None of the three detainees who were waterboarded provided Abu Ahmed’s real name, his whereabouts or an accurate description of his role in al-Qaeda.

In fact, the use of “enhanced interrogation techniques” on Khalid Sheik Mohammed produced false and misleading information. He specifically told his interrogators that Abu Ahmed had moved to Peshawar, got married and ceased his role as an al-Qaeda facilitator — none of which was true. According to the staff of the Senate intelligence committee, the best intelligence gained from a CIA detainee — information describing Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti’s real role in al-Qaeda and his true relationship to bin Laden — was obtained through standard, noncoercive means.

What’s interesting is in all this fuss from the right about foreign policy and

In Romney’s Gay Rights Mess, Silence Wasn’t An Option

At issue is the resignation of Richard Grenell, an ally of former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton, who joined the Romney campaign just two weeks ago. In his statement of resignation, which came the same day he was scheduled to start work, he cited as reason for leaving “the hyper-partisan discussion of personal issues.”

The translation, according to his allies, like the Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin: “Richard Grenell hounded from Romney campaign by anti-gay conservatives.”

Rubin wasn’t the only one who attributed Grenell’s departure to pressure from social conservatives — and she wasn’t without evidence. Almost immediately after his hire was announced, Grenell became the target of right-wing culture warriors like Bryan Fischer, who called his appointment, a “deliberate poke in the eye to the pro-family community.”

The Romney campaign stayed largely mum throughout the conservative uproar, and when Grenell resigned, gay rights groups pounced, accusing the campaign of bowing to pressure from the right wing.

So, we are supposed to believe that Romney would have had the stones to make a risky decision on bin Laden, but he just proved he doesn’t have the stones to speak up on behalf of his own appointee, against anti-gay conservatives.

Meanwhile, those flakes are celebrating by crowing about their influence over Romney.

Fischer: Grenell Resignation a ‘Huge Win’ for the Religious Right

Today, the American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer declared a “huge win” in response to the news that Mitt Romney’s openly gay foreign policy spokesperson Richard Grenell had resigned. According to Fischer, Grenell’s resignation is evidence that Romney is catering to social conservatives, expressing great confidence that Romney “is not going to make this mistake again. There is no way in the world that Mitt Romney is going to put a homosexual activist in any position of importance in his campaign.”

Romney gets dragged even further to the right. Beautiful.

  • AC

If any unarmed posters have any questions about guns, or how they should go about exercising their Second Amendment rights, this would be a great open thread to ask.

  • AC

Romney gets dragged even further to the right. Beautiful.

What is this “even further” business? It is questionable whether Bill Clinton is to the left of Mitt Romney, or vice versa.

  • Bob Roberts

Ah, once a liar, always a liar:

    Grenell’s full statement:

I have decided to resign from the Romney campaign as the Foreign Policy and National Security Spokesman. While I welcomed the challenge to confront President Obama’s foreign policy failures and weak leadership on the world stage, my ability to speak clearly and forcefully on the issues has been greatly diminished by the hyper-partisan discussion of personal issues that sometimes comes from a presidential campaign. [That being his propensity to say things that would later come back to haunt him and, by association, Romney.] I want to thank Governor Romney for his belief in me and my abilities and his clear message to me that being openly gay was a non-issue for him and his team.

    ————

The left so needs the right to be hateful and bigoted when they’re the ones who are making a big fuss about Grenell’s lifestyle choice. Romney was OK with it, as were many other prominent conservatives. It’s the left that says it’s an issue.

What do they have against homosexuals, anyway?

    Can anyone tell me?

  • Bob Roberts

In case our trolls missed it:

I want to thank Governor Romney for his belief in me and my abilities and his clear message to me that being openly gay was a non-issue for him and his team.

  • Bob Roberts

    THE FACTS:

The left went into full attack mode against Grenelli. It was the left’s attacks, not the right, that led some to believe that, despite his expertise, he would wind up being a liability to the team because of his remarks against women in particular and perhaps other things he said, which led to the deletion of hundreds of his past tweets. Grenelli himself realized that the best thing to do would be to resign, so he did.

It was the left’s attacks, not those of any on the right, that led to his resignation.

  • Bob Roberts

I wonder, have the obamunists done anything about the ‘Stunning lack of diversity’ in Obama’s re-election campaign

Besides forcing the most prominent gay person on Romney’s team to resign, I mean. Anything else?

  • lao

Nobody says Romney and his team had issues with Grenell being gay, but other conservatives certainly did. Check out the video in my second link.

  • Bob Roberts

Another example of how the White House spokespersons never lie.

Reports that President Obama is in Kabul are false.

    yeahRITE!

The White House informed the Post today the report on its website that President Obama was in Kabul was not accurate and that, in publishing it, the paper was endangering the President’s life. With due respect to the White House and out of an abundance of caution, the Post removed the story from its website. We are impressed the White House believes the Taliban, while hiding in caves and dodging American drones, are, like millions of others, avid readers of nypost.com.

If the reports were false, then how would saying the President WAS in Kabul when he WASN’T endanger him or anyone?

I think they didn’t think this through before they released it, or maybe they’re just typical dumb liberals.

  • Bob Roberts

And I figured out why the polls are so badly skewed towards Obama. Many of them are telephone polls. Those of us who have lives don’t bother answering calls from pollsters but trolls and liberals, who have no lives, who are desperate for attention, do.

  • Bob Roberts

    More lies:

None of the three detainees who were waterboarded provided Abu Ahmed’s real name, his whereabouts or an accurate description of his role in al-Qaeda.

Apparently our troll can’t read. The guy who spilled his guts didn’t have to be waterboarded:

… the detainee became compliant. He was not one of the three al-Qaeda operatives who underwent waterboarding, the harshest of the hard measures.

The left continues to try to spin the false narrative that “enhanced interrogation” didn’t provide anything but false information.

We know that is a lie, yet they keep telling it.

    Why?

    Because they’re liars, that’s why!

  • lao

You too need a good primer in the effectiveness of rapport interrogation vs torture. Here you go.

My Written Testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee

As an interrogator in Iraq, I conducted more than 300 interrogations and supervised more than 1,000. I led the interrogations team that located Abu Musab Al Zarqawi, the former leader of Al Qaida in Iraq, and one of the most notorious mass murderers of our generation. At the time that we killed Zarqawi, he was the number one priority for the United States military, higher than Osama Bin Laden.

    Testimony of Ali Soufan

From my experience – and I speak as someone who has personally interrogated many terrorists and elicited important actionable intelligence- I strongly believe that it is a mistake to use what has become known as the “enhanced interrogation techniques,” a position shared by many professional operatives, including the CIA officers who were present at the initial phases of the Abu Zubaydah interrogation.

  • Bob Roberts

It is indeed true that some false and misleading information was given during enhanced interrogation sessions. Nobody denies that.

But the left will never admit to the FACT that much useful and even vital information was obtained that way, too. They only tell half the story and leave the critical half out.

And the troll goes to one source which says no information was given, yet:

“The initial information we received on who the currier was, the person to lead us to bin Laden, came as the result of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed being waterboarded,” Rep. King said. “He appeared on the radar screen as a result of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s statements after he was waterboarded.”

The above story came from CBS, an avid critic of Bush and the right, a staunch supporter of Obama and the left. If it’s not true, why did they publish it?

The point there is that the waterboarding itself often did not produce actionable intelligence but it did play a role in breaking the detainee such that, to avoid another session, they became compliant and did provide actionable intelligence. Now I cannot say what, exactly, was given up during the waterboarding sessions nor can the left. They make all sorts of claims that we got nothing but, given our record of success against the terrorists’ record of failure, I’d say they’re very likely lying again.

If the troll bothered to read what I posted he might actually learn something. For it’s true that the key was not necessarily what KSM told us, but rather HOW HE REACTED at the mere mention of the name of the courier and his subsequent attempts to get other detainees to keep their mouths shut about him.

  • Bob Roberts

You’ve seen the lies, now here’s the truth:

John Rizzo: CIA’s Enhanced Interrogation “Necessary and Effective”

After the arrival of [Steve] Mitchell, [who] begins to use these techniques, what is derived after the use of those techniques?

There was an enormous amount of intelligence reports generated from the interrogation of Zubaydah.

The techniques themselves, let us remember, lasted for a relatively short period of time. And the techniques themselves were not intended [nor] designed to make Zubaydah talk while actually being subjected to those techniques. The idea of the techniques was to break down his resistance to the questioning or resistance to providing information.

In order that in the next section he would talk because he didn’t want to be subjected to waterboarding or one of these techniques?

    Yeah.

I’m a lawyer, not a psychologist, but as I also understand, there’s a theory called learned helplessness, where the idea is once you receive these techniques, and he withstood all he thought he could, that that excused him or liberated him, in the sense that consistent with his religion, having gone down the last mile in resisting, he was now free to talk.

So I think that played a role in it as well, this notion of in his mind liberating him to provide the information. And there was a lot of it.

This leads to the left’s lie about how “the techniques were ineffective”. Yes, in some and perhaps many cases (but not all) they perhaps did not directly produce actionable intelligence during the short periods they were employed.

Rather, once they were withdrawn, those subjected to them willingly gave solid, actionable intelligence so they would not be subjected to them again!

The bottom line is they achieved the desired effect. It’s a very powerful psychological tool called “negative punishment”. Look it up, troll.

There were other techniques besides water boarding. Often it wasn’t necessary to proceed to waterboarding – lesser means worked and so this feeds into the lie that waterboarding did not produce anything of value.

This report rolls back the lies of the left and their pitiful trolls.

One of the most widely cited pieces of evidence was the testimony of a former CIA agent, John Kiriakou, who claimed on television that the terrorist Abu Zubaydah was uncooperative until he was waterboarded for just 35 seconds. After that, Kiriakou said, “it was like flipping a switch,” and Abu Zubaydah started talking. On the basis of this evidence, supporting the use of enhanced interrogation techniques on an otherwise uncooperative terrorist seemed compelling.

  • Bob Roberts

Excuse me, the operant conditioning term I meant to use was negative reinforcement, not negative punishment.

In this case, giving useful information prevented the subject from being subjected to the harsh interrogation techniques – so you see the point is to use them sparingly such that the subject then is compliant and helpful without using them any more.

Personally, I like a Glock 27. It carries about 10 rounds, is small and light, and a 40 caliber round is large enough to effectively stop a bad guy from continuing his actions.

I like the Glock design because when the chips are down, I don’t want to have to worry about a safety being on or off.

My loving wife prefers the Glock 26. Same size as the 27 and shoots a 9 mm round with less kickback.

  • Sam Adams

The other thing I like about the Glock 27 is you can buy an aftermarket barrel and shoot 9 mm rounds.

I agree AC. What would you suggest to those who reside in states with anti 2nd amendment views and laws? They make it nearly impossible for people in certain areas. Especially outlawing the purchase of black powder. This drives innocent law abiding citizens to the black market, inevitably making criminals out of them at the same time. A purpose served no doubt.

  • AC

I would suggest complying with the law while working to change it to be in line with the Constitution. Leave the civil disobedience and test cases to misdemeanors. A felony violation of the gun laws will result in losing your right to lawfully possess any gun and defend yourself, if necessary. Survival must come first. While that is tough in an unfree state, something is still better than nothing.

Being caught with an illegal gun could also result in your demise, such as if you are sent to a detention facility during Katrina-style pandemonium after needing to use said weapon in self-defense.

The lack of black powder shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

If you’ve never shot before, go (with your significant other) to your local gun range and rent a Glock 19, and if available, an hour of newbie instruction. After getting a taste of a high quality pistol in a decent caliber, begin feeling what else they have, then rent a few.

Controllability and feel take precedence over caliber and brand. The main objective is to reliably put rounds on target starting from the first round. Make sacrifices as needed to accomplish this objective.

I would suggest that all citizens obtain a defense-grade pistol and a semiautomatic rifle in 5.56 NATO or higher for each member of their household age 15 and older. This can be done in most parts of the US; the localities where it can’t are places which need to be evacuated for reasons other than the lack of gun rights.

If an appropriate semiautomatic rifle is beyond your budget, then a 12 gauge shotgun (loaded with buckshot, not birdshot) is an acceptable substitute, although your ability for follow-ups will be impacted, and it will not be able to fill as many roles outside of room range defense situations.

If you’re really, really broke, go with a new G17 or G19. 9mm is the cheapest to shoot. New shooters are better served by more practice than more expensive gear.

Let’s give credit where credit is due

We celebrated Obama’s foreign policy triumph in taking out Osama. And we give him all the credit for playing the key role that he did.

Let’s start recognizing some of his other foreign policy triumphs and make sure he gets the credit he has earned:

    1. More American servicemen have died in Afghanistan since Obama took over than in the seven plus years of prior action.

    2. Since the Taliban couldn’t win on the battlefield, Obama has invited them in to participate in partnership talks.

    3.

…no one on Earth has done more to help al-Qaeda and the world’s radical Islamists achieve their goals in the last year than our president.

Bin Laden’s ultimate goal was for radical Islamists to rise up and retake control of the Middle East from largely secular, American-backed leaders. Bin Laden’s strategy was to use terror attacks on the West to inspire this.

Just a few years ago, bin Laden probably couldn’t have fathomed that it would be an American president who would ultimately accomplish his goal of bringing radical Islamist leaders to power in Middle Eastern countries, or that the same American president would get closer to accomplishing those goals in just three years than bin Laden himself did in his entire multi-decade terror career.

    Read more: http://www.americanthinker.com/2012/05/the_realization_of_osama_bin_ladens_dream.html#ixzz1tgvS8mZs

Today, a year after bin Laden’s death, a sizable chunk of Middle Eastern real estate is either in the hands of the Muslim Brotherhood and other like-minded groups or on the brink of falling into their hands. The newly empowered Muslim Brotherhood, which as recently as two years ago was banned from political life in most of the countries it now runs, comes to and goes from the White House with impunity.

One secular leader after another has been replaced in the middle east with Islamic leaders who are attempting to impose Sharia law while the persecute Christians and Jews and chant “Death to Israel.” Those groups wouldn’t have come to power without the assistance provided by Barack Obama.

And let’s not forget that when over a half million protestors in Iran rose up to try and replace their Islamic Regieme, Obama kept silent, offering zero support for their efforts.

Ah, yes….Obama’s foreign policy is something to remember, and give him all the credit he deserves.

“The Man Who Shot Osama bin Laden”

On this, the day after the first anniversary of the untimely death of master terrorist and mass murderer Osama bin Laden, since we have seemingly escaped Islamic retaliation for that cleansing of the planet, Americans should all rejoice that we have our president.

By now, Osama’s sorry carcass has been consumed by ravenous fishes not very selective about what they eat and it seems altogether fitting and proper to honor the man most responsible for ridding the world of the vermin that once was bin Laden.

While the courageous men of SEAL Team Six may have technically pulled the triggers at the vermin’s slummy compound in beautiful, downtown Abbottabad, every reasonable person knows in their heart of hearts that President Barack Hussein Obama deserves the credit.

Accordingly, for the reader’s listening and viewing pleasure, I am reprising Paul Shanklin’s memorable rendition of “The Man Who Shot Osama bin Laden,” which was first heard on Rush Limbaugh’s radio show last May.

The song had been removed by YouTube due to alleged “copyright infringements” but, thanks to my tireless searching and in the interests of providing a public service, I have been able to retrieve it. WARNING: The presentation is replete with graphic graphics showing the deceased bin Laden in all his inglorious, dead splendor.

Hear and see it here: http://bit.ly/IloIRp.

False rumors have been circulating that our heroic leader was somewhat less of a hero and failed to provide any leadership at all during the tense hours leading up to his finest foreign policy achievement. They are all poppycock!

Americans should disregard as meaningless multiple reports that our president was so upset over the prospect of killing another human being a year ago that he retreated from the White House Situation Room, went to bed, and left the momentous decision to either then-CIA Director Leon Panetta or Special Ops Admiral William McRaven.

Shortly after the Abbotabad raid, The Washington D.C. Insider revealed that Obama had been “overruled” by American military and intelligence experts due to his “persistent hesitation to act” on the matter and it was left to Panetta to make the call.

    That canard is absolutely ridiculous.

False rumors have been circulating that our heroic leader was somewhat less of a hero and failed to provide any leadership at all during the tense hours leading up to his finest foreign policy achievement. They are all poppycock!

Americans should disregard as meaningless multiple reports that our president was so upset over the prospect of killing another human being a year ago that he retreated from the White House Situation Room, went to bed, and left the momentous decision to either then-CIA Director Leon Panetta or Special Ops Admiral William McRaven. . .

I realize studies were done on the issue of torture and all that, but the real world examples are conclusive that torture does work. Ask the people that fail S.E.R.E.
Now I will agree it is not 100%. But when a terr knows they can not be injured, only discomforted, no amount of rapport will be enough to get them to chat when they do not want to.

Sam Adams: Now you made me look like a wuss for CWPing a Glock 26 9mm: “My loving wife prefers the Glock 26. Same size as the 27 and shoots a 9 mm round with less kickback”. I knew I should’ve went w/a 40 cal!!!!!!
    _____________

As far a personal protection is concerned, any gun you have is better than not having any gun. Plenty of grannies have stop bad guys from doing bad things with their 22 cal “Saturday Night Specials.” Most folks know that a 22 is not an effective stopping round, but most guys don’t have the bravado to see how much they like getting shot by one.

The 9 mm round, most folks agree, has been underpowered ever since it was first produced. However, with modern hollow point ammo, I’m not sure that a bad guy would notice much of a difference. Plus in your Glock 26 you get two more rounds. The Cheaper than Dirt Magazine extensions are a nice addition to the standard magazine.

I chose the Glock 27 because I have three law enforcement guys living in my neighborhood, and when I asked them what pistol I should buy, they all gave me the same answer.

And I am referring to a Marine who D.O.R’d out of a selection process due to the “torture” of S.E.R.E. (his phrasing not mine).
Depending on the subject and the interrogators, torture (just like rapport) may or not be effective.
Personally I would rather chat with someone for a few days/weeks than have the living crap beat out of me. But then again there are those so dedicated to their cause that no technique is effective, torture or not. But torture has an added benefit, deterrence. If you know your enemy takes no cards off the table, you are less willing to go up against them.

The troll is a child, or acts like one. Apparently he thinks we care that he’s incapable of addressing us like adults. He seems to believe if he behaves as a child it somehow makes us children too, or maybe he thinks we will sink to his level – and some do, sometimes. I’ve slapped him around a bit myself sometimes but now, for the most part, I save that for “Kick the Troll” day, which is arbitrarily assigned as Saturday for the time being.

The troll, displaying his typical one dimensional thinking, mistakes me talking ABOUT him with me talking TO him – desperate for attention as he is. Even negative attention is something he apparently relishes – which explains his continued presence here.

What he doesn’t understand is that if he’s just drop the lies and such we might eventually be able to have a real conversation with him.

The odds of that are somewhere south of slim and none.

San Diego in the news – again!

Student Claims He Drank Own Urine After Being Forgotten In Holding Cell For 5 Days

There is more to this story than is being told, generally.

    Obama’s girlfriend – a fabrication! Why?

    Becoming Obama

This passage, from “Dreams from my Father”, gives a look behind the curtain:

One night I took her to see a new play by a black playwright. It was a very angry play, but very funny. Typical black American humor. The audience was mostly black, and everybody was laughing and clapping and hollering like they were in church. After the play was over, my friend started talking about why black people were so angry all the time. I said it was a matter of remembering—nobody asks why Jews remember the Holocaust, I think I said—and she said that’s different, and I said it wasn’t, and she said that anger was just a dead end. We had a big fight, right in front of the theater. When we got back to the car she started crying. She couldn’t be black, she said. She would if she could, but she couldn’t. She could only be herself, and wasn’t that enough.

Keeping distant, perhaps not even accurate, memories of a past alive to taint the present and the future.

That’s what Obama and his ilk are all about.

Note the racism that runs through the passage.

I always thought he used such terms as a matter of disdain. Although I refer to him obliquely as a troll (or other snide troll-like comments), I generally try not to cutesy him up.
I will admit when I first saw him I almost fell for his MO. I thought he was just trying to point out incongruities within the posts. I have since completed basic troll school and understand that he actually believes this stuff.

Sam Adams: I did put grip extensions on my clips, it does allow you to get another finger on the grip, thus a more stable platform, but for some reason I’m not as accurate with it as the Browning. Oh, & I have about 3500 rounds of 9mm….another reason to keep that caliber. My buddy has a Glock 17 & it shoots great though.
