Tim McCarver, Climatologist

Sports announcers have to fill vast expanses of time during which there is really nothing to say, so it is inevitable that stupid remarks will occasionally fall out of their mouths, but this digression into enviromoonbattery by Fox’s Tim McCarver during a Cardinals–Brewers game brought snickers even at HuffingtonPuffington Post:

“It has not been proven, but I think ultimately it will be proven that the air is thinner now, there has been climactic changes over the last 50 years in the world and I think that’s one of the reasons that balls are carrying much better now than I remember. You know, the ball that Ramirez hit out and the ball Freese hit out, I didn’t think either one was going to be a home run, yet they made it.”

That’s as scientific as anything we’ve heard from Michael Mann et al. McCarver ought to apply for a government grant.

On a tip from Wiggins.

one too many beanballs to the noggin for old Tim

The balls are traveling statistically further because of all of the juicers in baseball.

He should know. Moonbat representative and fellow climate alarmist Henry Waxman was busy investigating steroids in baseball back when oil was hitting new records and the financial crisis was beginning to unfold.

    Useful idiot.

  • TexasDoc

Air is thinner now? Or could it be that medical science has allowed more focused conditioning of athletes commensurate with better knowledge about nutrition and exercise?

McCarver always comes across as a jerk when he’s calling a game…it’s no surprise to me that he’s an enviromoonbat too.

The barometer has existed at leas since 1643. If atmosphric pressure had decrease I believe that somebody would have noticed. Someone of his limited mental capacity should no be permited to be out in public without a minder, for HIS safety.

  • chuck in st paul

Hey it must be so. At least it must be thinner up in his Skybox. It would explain the apparent brain damage from lack of sufficient oxygen.

  • Fiberal

    Its actually a double foul.

Not only is he embarrassingly wrong about balls being carried better in thinner air, but if there actually were global warming, the air would be thicker.

  • Fiberal

But this is why liberals latch onto climate change…when the climate changes, all things are possible.

  • Son of Taz

It’s not thinner air that makes the balls go further. Everyone knows that the gravitational field around ballparks has shifted.

Either that or the Chicoms are putting helium in the balls.

  • Bob Roberts

Wow, I hadn’t heard this nonsense!

He really thinks the air is thinner?

    Apparently so.

As octa bright pointed out @ 1:15, we aren’t measuring record low barometric pressures. Things are much the same as they ever were.

Except the materials used to make balls and bats and the training and steroid regimens of the players.

Apparently some believe global warming causes rape waves.

I think that rape waves are caused by people like Hamid, who says:

“It is not as wrong raping a Swedish girl as raping an Arab girl,” says Hamid. “The Swedish girl gets a lot of help afterwards, and she had probably f***ked before, anyway. But the Arab girl will have problems with her family. For her, being raped is a source of shame. It is important that she retains her virginity until she marries.” It was no coincidence that it was a Swedish girl that was gang raped in Rissne. “It is far too easy to get a Swedish whore… girl, I mean;” says Hamid, and laughs over his own choice of words. “Many immigrant boys have Swedish girlfriends when they are teenagers. But when they get married, they get a proper woman from their own culture who has never been with a boy. That’s what I am going to do. I don’t have too much respect for Swedish girls. I guess you can say they get f***ked to pieces.”

Tim McCarver can sound intelligent when discussing baseball. On any other topic, he’s just another dumb jock.

McCarver has proven many times over he isnt someone who should be allowed in public without a safety helmet, so anybody taking him for the voice of reason on anything needs to be in a nice padded room for their own protection. Seriously there are entire websites devoted to stupid shit he says

In 1922 the Washington Compost ran an article that northern sea ice was disappearing and would soon be ice free. Babe Ruth shattered the major league record for home runs with 29 in 1919. (The previous record was 12.)

    He then hit 54 in 1920, and 59 in 1921. Coincidence…?
