Obama worth as much as 10 million. He’s a member of “the 1%” – OCCUPY THE WHITE HOUSE (see what it gets you!)

More waste of stimulus dollars: Sexual habits and erectile dysfunction studies.

How, exactly, does that help generate jobs and kick start the economy again? I guess it did fund a few lunatic liberal researchers, probably Obama bundlers.

What do you know – as we pointed out in our falsely labeled “trial by blog” it turns out NO TRIAL IS APPROPRIATE because, in releasing and not charging Zimmerman, the authorities DID THE RIGHT THING!

The briefing halted momentarily when someone suggested that Carney planned to “call on the boys [first]” before taking a question from CBS’s Norah O’Donnell, whose turn it was to question Carney. The press corps consensus seemed to be that Carney is free to break with the standard order of taking questions from reporters, but he should do so from the outset.

“Fair enough,” Carney said before returning to O’Donnell, who asked if President Obama would accept House Speaker John Boehner’s demand that any debt ceiling increase be matched by equivalent cuts in spending.

I suspect that they had to give their questions in advance and he didn’t want to deal with this one perhaps?

Democrats beginning to panic. Starting to accept that Obama’s going to get what he said he deserved – a single term.

Democrats none too happy about NC convention location.

The state’s Democratic Party is mired in a sexual harassment scandal. Voters just approved a state constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, which conflicts with Obama’s view on the issue. Convention fundraising has been slow, and labor unions tapped to fill the financial gap are angry the convention will be in a city — Charlotte — with no unionized hotels and in a state where compulsory union membership or the payment of dues is prohibited as an employment condition. North Carolina’s 9.7 percent unemployment rate is above the national average and one of the host city’s top employers –Bank of America (BAC) — has announced job reductions. Obama is scheduled to accept his party’s nomination at Bank of America Stadium in September.

Now all we need is for the gay mafia and occu-tards to show up and get into a melee.

A secretive network of left-wing billionaires and their political operatives descended on the luxurious Biltmore Hotel in Miami over the weekend to discuss strategy for the coming elections. Attendees roamed the grounds at the 150-acre tropical resort on their way to cocktail gatherings, salsa dance lessons, and workshops such as “Occupy the Voting Booth” and “The 1 Percent Rule.” Local police guarded entrances as members attended a “partners only” meeting in the hotel’s Country Club Courtyard.

“Name badges must be worn at all times,” attendees were informed.

A Free Beacon reporter who tried to attend the conference after-party was intercepted by Alexandra Visher, the DA’s vice president of partner engagement and communications.

“These are individuals of considerable means” who often support policies that run contrary to their own interests, Visher said, as she escorted the reporter out of the party.

Yeah, she actually said that. Does she believe it?

    Beware of politicians making promises.

After becoming a Senator Mr Obama is said to have gone back on his offer because he was too busy and told Mr Rogers: ‘Come on man, you should know better when politicians make promises’.

In a furious tirade Mr Rogers screamed at him: ‘You’re a dirty rotten m*****f*****. What kind of s*** are you trying to pull? F*** you, you big-eared m*****f*****.’

A year later Mr Obama finally showed up but by then Mr Rogers’ had all but written him off as a friend.

So who’s the REAL bully? No, actually, it’s not the media. IT’S GOVERNMENT. Who is going after Zimmerman even though he did nothing wrong? Who is talking about piling on “hate crime” charges and who is behind the effort?

    What is judicial activism?

Ed defined judicial activism as a form of legal error – the type that occurs when a court wrongly decides that a statute is unconstitutional. Ed suggested that “judicial activism” may be an especially pernicious form of legal error because, compared to “judicial passivism” for example, it may be particularly difficult for the political branches to overcome the error. Thus, there may be some intellectually honest utility in invoking the charge of judicial activism as Ed has defined it.

The piece talks about “Rosen”, who sounds like a lunatic lib-tard moonbat. So I didn’t bother to C&P that part.

The high cost of renewable electricity mandates.

Motivated by a desire to reduce carbon emissions, and in the absence of federal action to do so, 29 states (and the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico) have required utility companies to deliver specified minimum amounts of electricity from “renewable” sources, including wind and solar power. California recently adopted the most stringent of these so-called renewable portfolio standards (RPS), requiring 33 percent of its electricity to be renewable by 2020.

Proponents of the RPS plans say that the mandated restrictions will reduce harmful emissions and spur job growth, by stimulating investment in green technologies.

But this patchwork of state rules—which now affects the electricity bills of about two-thirds of the U.S. population as well as countless businesses and industrial users—has sprung up in recent years without the benefit of the states fully calculating their costs.

There is growing evidence that the costs may be too high—that the price tag for purchasing renewable energy, and for building new transmission lines to deliver it, may not only outweigh any environmental benefits but may also be detrimental to the economy, costing jobs rather than adding them.

The mandates amount to a “back-end way to put a price on carbon,” says one former federal regulator. Put another way, the higher cost of electricity is essentially a de facto carbon-reduction tax, one that is putting a strain on a struggling economy and is falling most heavily, in the way that regressive taxes do, on the least well-off among residential users.

    Another “green fail”.

The Arctic Ocean could be nearly ice-free at the end of summer by 2012.

OK, summer of 2012 is upon is. Doesn’t look like the deadline will be met.

Its always important to remember what has been predicted by the elders of science, and to review those predictions when the time is right. In four months, just 132 days from now at the end of summer on the Autumnal Equinox September 22nd 2012, the Arctic will be “nearly ice free” according to a prominent NASA scientist in a National Geographic article on December 12, 2007. That is also the same article in which the future NSIDC director made himself famous with this quote:

    “The Arctic is screaming,”

…said Mark Serreze, senior scientist at the government’s snow and ice data center in Boulder, Colorado.

Check on the prediction’s progress here.

I call them “climate alarmists”, now he calls them “hydrocarbon deniers”.

[see link for graphs referred to in this bit]

John has already noted what ought to have been above-the-fold news in every newspaper last week—the testimony of the GAO’s head of natural resources that the U.S. has recoverable oil shale “about equal to the entire world’s proven oil reserves.” It wasn’t front-page news, however, because it doesn’t fit the liberal narrative and favorite talking point that the U.S. only has “2 percent” of proven global oil reserves.

I suggest we start calling such people “hydrocarbon deniers,” since only a puritanical fixation prevents the sensible exploitation of our own energy resources. (Maybe we should call them “Energy Prohibitionists” as well as “hydrocarbon deniers,” since China and everyone else is going to make use of their hydrocarbon energy.) And anyone who persists in using the “2 percent” talking point again (that would include President Obama) deserves to be labeled an anti-science ignoramus.

For the slow learners out there, here’s what the situation looks like graphically, using data from the Energy Information Administration and the International Energy Agency. Turns out the U.S. may have as much as three-fourths of the world’s oil shale. Figure 1 shows the estimated proven reserves of conventional oil. But add in “unconventional” shale oil (though this distinction is increasingly meaningless with the advance of extraction technology), and you get Figure 2 (corrected–the third column shows the oil reserves for the rest of the world not including the U.S.), which shows that instead of having only 2 percent of global oil reserves, the U.S. actually has 82 percent as much oil as the rest of the world combined, and almost twice as much as the Middle East. (Figure 3 shows the U.S. shale total added to the world reserves, which shows that we have roughly 45 percent of the world’s total oil hydrocarbons.) Thus we can say that Saudi Arabia is the America of oil, except that we have way more than they do. Maybe we should start exporting oil to China and join OPEC?

The Center for Constitutional Jurisprudence filed an important brief urging the Supreme Court to review the federal court decision holding that the Mt. Soledad War Memorial in San Diego was unconstitutional because it included a large cross as part of the tribute to our Nation’s war dead. Heartened by the fact that even the Obama Administration’s Department of Justice thought the Ninth Circuit’s decision was wrong, the Center’s founder, Dr. John Eastman, joined by former U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese and the terrific assistance of Chapman law student Jenna McCauley, urged the Court to overrule its 40-year-old decision in Lemon v Kurtzman that has been the source of so much judicial hostility toward religion and religious symbols in the public square.

“The far-right anti-immigration party of Geert Wilders” (The Financial Times) . . . “Far-right leader Geert Wilders” (The Guardian) . . . “Extreme right anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders” (Agence France-Presse) is “at the fringes of mainstream politics” (Time) . . . Mr. Wilders is so far out on the far-right extreme fringe that his party is the third biggest in parliament. Indeed, the present Dutch government governs only through the support of Wilders’ Party for Freedom. So he’s “extreme” and “far-right” and out on the “fringe,” but the seven parties that got far fewer votes than him are “mainstream”? That right there is a lot of what’s wrong with European political discourse and its media coverage: Maybe he only seems so “extreme” and “far-right” because they’re the ones out on the fringe.

Indeed the only reason moonbats see some of US as “far right” is that they’re so “off a cliff” to the left.

Doctors urging abortion for asthetic and other inappropriate reasons.

What if you knew, even before your child was born, that she wouldn’t look like everyone else?

    Clara Beatty’s parents knew.

They were living in Belgium at the time, a decade ago. Prenatal screening was extensive, probably more than would have been done in the United States.

Those tests determined that baby Clara, their third child, was likely to be a perfectly normal kid inside. But even in the womb, doctors could see severe facial deformities – droopy eyes, under-developed cheekbones and a tiny jaw. It meant she’d need a tube in her neck to help her breathe after birth. The lack of an outer ear and restricted ear canals also would mean she’d have hearing aids by the time she was 6 months old.

In Belgium, it was unusual for babies to be born with Treacher Collins syndrome, caused by a genetic mutation. Parents almost always opted to abort, doctors said.

But the Beattys wouldn’t hear of it. It wasn’t any big moral statement, they say.

In a future under obamacare you know it likely wouldn’t have been left up to the parents.

Needy States Use Housing Aid Cash to Plug Budgets

Hundreds of millions of dollars meant to provide a little relief to the nation’s struggling homeowners is being diverted to plug state budget gaps. In a budget proposed this week, California joined more than a dozen states that want to help close gaping shortfalls using money paid by the nation’s biggest banks and earmarked for foreclosure prevention, investigations of financial fraud and blunting the ill effects of the housing crisis. California was awarded more than $400 million from the banks, and Gov. Jerry Brown has proposed using the bulk of that sum to pay the state’s debts.

One glance at the team pictures of the men’s and women’s winners from last weekend’s PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship might make people rethink the term “minority.” The men of Texas Pan-American and the women of Bethune-Cookman each won for the second time in the past three years. Neither school has an African-American on its roster. Half of Bethune-Cookman’s six golfers, in fact, are European.

    Probably.

    Greece on brink of collapse

Europe’s financial crisis lurched into a perilous new phase as dire predictions emerged of a collapse in Greece’s economy, with a run on its banks bringing an inevitable end to its membership of the euro.

Florida students consistently fail on tests – so Florida lowers the passing score!

The Board of Education decided in an emergency meeting Tuesday to lower the passing grade on the writing portion of Florida’s standardized test after preliminary results showed a drastic drop in student passing scores.

The results indicated only about a third of students would pass this year’s tougher Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test exam, compared with a passing rate of 80 percent or more last year.

“They’ve asked students to do more, but that’s pretty dramatic,” said Florida Education Association spokesman Mark Pudlow. “We need to examine what led to this, not just paper over the problem.”

More on the liberal moonbat war on women

At this year’s Cannes Film Festival, there are directors in their 30s and their 80s, directors from Europe and North America, directors from Asia and the Middle East — but no women.
Not, at least, among the 22 films competing for the coveted Palme D’Or, an absence that has drawn criticism from feminists — and a defense from the festival’s artistic director. Thierry Fremaux argues it’s not his fault that filmmaking remains primarily “a male sport.”
“I don’t select films because the film is directed by a man, a woman, white, black, young, an old man,” said Fremaux, who has led the festival since 2001. “I select films because I think they deserve to be in selection.
“It wouldn’t be very nice to select a film because the film is not good but it is directed by a woman,” he added.

Of course, the same argument applies if you substitute race for gender, but to honestly express it in those terms gets you branded a racist.

You can’t please some people – post a lot of small, single topic posts and people whine (although I note there’s been a lot of that going on without ANY whining lately).

Consolidate your many topics into one post and some people whine.

Add a bit of the story so that people who don’t like to click links will get the highlights and not have to, and people whine.

    I have a suggestion.

    QUIT WHINING.

If you don’t like a post, skip over it, like I do.

UFO causes problems with jet in Denver area. A “UFO” is not some futuristic craft piloted by aliens. It is merely an object that is flying and is unidentified. In this case it is likely the object in question was a large radio controlled hobby aircraft. The more serious question is whether or not this may be a new terrorist tactic – to try to fly such an object, possibly with some explosive device, into an actual airliner full of passengers. In this case the jet was a smaller, private jet.

You know, Obama’s efforts to insert himself into the biographies of former Presidents actually provides a golden opportunity: Take all the great things our past Presidents have done and add footnotes that explain how Obama has screwed all that up.

    Moonbats doing what moonbats do.

residents in the nearby Bridgeport neighborhood clashed with roving protesters. The demonstrators, many of whom covered their faces with bandanas, walked through the streets shouting obscenities about law enforcement.
At times they were met with officers creating barricades with their bodies and bicycles. Without being able to pass, demonstrators took to alleys, knocking over trash bins and pushing large trash containers into the streets.
The march escalated with a shouting match between protesters and area residents when the march arrived at the Deering District station near West 31st and South Halsted streets.
In the wake of the incident and more protests to come, downtown businesses are preparing for the worst. Aniko Salon in the South Loop boarded up all of its windows with plywood, and a supervisor for the company it hired said he has jobs lined up for the rest of the week.

Have you heard the latest? Obama is now forcing Military Chaplins to marry gays!

If I were a Military Chaplin I would only agree to marry gays if the Military agreed to force all Muslim Soldiers to burn a Koran while eating a pork chop or drawing a picture of Mohammed at the same time.

“While Palin’s opinion is surprisingly lucid, it’s also completely absurd, especially coming from her. Bristol Palin has either had her memory scrubbed or simply chooses to ignore the fact that her very argument undercuts her own life choices.

As someone touting the sanctity of marriage and mom/dad nuclear families, Palin seems to have forgotten that she a) got pregnant out of wedlock, and b) is raising her son as without the dual presence of his father. Also, the statement “we know that in general kids do better growing up in a mother/father home” is far from fact… so, not sure who the “we” is she’s referring to.

It’s not a surprise to see this kind of hypocrisy from Palin. She’s the same person who returned to live in Alaska because she was “over the Hollywood thing,” and then proceeded to join Dancing with the Stars, shoot her own reality show, and appear on her mom’s reality show. ”

Hypocritical, I don’t think so. Who better to state that a mother father home is better than else-wise? A daughter from a mother-father home who made the error of not listening to her parents and has learned from her mistakes. Besides even the most hard-pressed conservative will agree that some fathers (or mothers) are irredeemable and better off elsewhere (besides Bristol has the father figure covered with grandpa.
Umm, how does appearing on a dance contest equate to the Hollyweird lifestyle? She came in, practiced, performed, and went back to AK. I do not watch a lot of TMZ, but I really do not remember her getting caught doing coke while driving 90 on the freeway.

How about a massive posters thread each day? Oh wait that is part of the open thread thing.
I know I am guilty of long rants (seeing a doc about that) and I am guilty of monopolizing a thread (I am on step 6 of a 12 step for that), but I prefer a mass post with an index at the top, that way it can be surfed and ignored or drilled into.

  • AC

Long rants in comments have to be posted in whatever thread they’re relevant because they can’t be linked elsewhere. News articles don’t need to be copied and pasted. A hyperlink with a headline is sufficient because anyone with further interest will click the link and see the text on its original source.

TUP and I aren’t talking about the commentary. It’s the articles being reproduced verbatim which clog up the thread. Drudge is such a useful site because it is an index of headlines.
