Saint Matthew Shepard’s Death Not Related to Homosexuality

To become more equal than other animals on the politically correct farm, the most privileged among us have to pass themselves off as oppressed. This has caused an endless stream of phony “hate crimes” against homosexuals. At least the 1998 Matthew Shepard killing — liberals’ answer to the Passion of Christ — wasn’t staged. But as few seem to realize, it wasn’t a hate crime either:

The story garnered national attention when the attack was characterized as a hate crime. But Shepard’s killers, in their first interview since their convictions, tell “20/20′s” Elizabeth Vargas that money and drugs motivated their actions that night, not hatred of gays.

If punks kill you for drug money, it’s just another sad tale of life and death in a disintegrating civilization. But if it happens to a homosexual, it is a National Tragedy to be hyped for years.

Obviously if homosexuals really were “oppressed,” the media would be able to uncover violence against them motivated by their repulsive behavior (i.e., genuine “hate crimes”) — especially considering how aggressively they have been shoving that behavior in everyone else’s face.

They didn’t strong-arm Matthew into the truck, they lured him in by pretending to pick him up.

Just because they say years later that it was for drug money doesn’t make it so. Especially when there are quotes of them saying differently, that it was in fact partly motivated by them believing Matthew was gay.

Tying someone up, beating them and leaving them for dead seems to necessitate some sort of hatred for that person.

  3. ATTORNEY says:

    “This is a hate crime!”
    “No, no it’s not.”
    “Well, I hated it!”

They’re seriously mentally ill and it’s no coincidence that they were treated as such throughout most of the history of mankind.

  5. AC says:

Tying someone up, beating them and leaving them for dead seems to necessitate some sort of hatred for that person.

That pretty much describes the mentality of all violent criminals. Would this have been any less of a crime if they were doing drugs with a woman, before beating, raping, and leaving her dead on the side of the road?

Is there any less hatred flowing through a mugger’s knife as he terminates a jogger who wandered too far from the beaten path?

  6. AC says:

There is no excuse for what those two men did. They should both be executed for their crimes.

The liberal establishment seems content with letting such evil receive three hots and a cot courtesy of working taxpayers.

  7. Jimbo says:

If the killers had been a gang of roving black youths in Shitcago or Baltimore, Matthew would just be another dead honky – no loss, no headlines, no big deal.

But this happened in a conservative flyover state that liberals really, really, really hate.

OK, let’s say that this was a “hate crime”. Is Shepard any MORE dead because of it? If he was NOT gay, would it be just as tragic? How about the occupy “whatever” people; if they throw rocks at a “rich” person or their house while shouting insults, is THAT a “hate crime”?

What is wrong with just enforcing EXISTING laws? If Shepard’s killers were tried, found guilty and punished ONLY for the murder and Shepard’s sexual orientation was never mentioned, would you call that a miscarrage of justice?

  9. Fred C. Dobbs says:

“Hate crime” legislation is a bunch of bullshit and just serves to further push us all into neat little categories like liberals love to do- the whole “some animals are more equal then others” mentality.

Like AC said, is he any more dead if they killed him for being gay then if they killed him just for fun or for money? It makes no sense and frankly I don’t see how hate crime legislation passes constitutional muster. Equal protection under the law anybody?

“Tying someone up, beating them and leaving them for dead seems to necessitate some sort of hatred for that person.”

A woman in Florida was raped, her ARMS CUT OFF and was left to die in a ditch by a scumbag named “del Toro”. No “hate crime” charges were filed because he was MEXICAN and she was a WHITE AMERICAN.

Also, the prosicuter had to promass NOT TO EXICUTE HIM or SENTENCE HIM TO LIFE in order to get an extradition from Mexico.

    Where’s the “progressive” outrage?

  11. StanInTexas says:

Heard all of this same garbage during the James Byrd incident here in Texas.

Initial reports were that the murder was the result of a drug deal gone bad, but the Liberals decided to make Byrd a saint and a national hero.

It was interesting how Texas had no Hate Crime laws (a fact blamed on George W. Bush), yet the three men that murdered James Byrd got 2 death penalties and a life sentence.

And if you really want to get Liberals worked up, ask them to tell you who Ken Tillery of Jasper TX was.

  12. TonyD95B says:

The facts tend to indicate that they did not intend to kill him. They BEAT him with the gun instead of shooting him with it, and tied him to the fence and took his shoes so they’d have time to rob his apartment.

One thing that is overlooked here are the bad decisions that young Mr. Shepard made that led to his own demise.

Excessive drinking, drug use, and promiscuity almost ALWAYS lead to a bad place, no matter who you are or what your “orientation” is.

WTF was this kid thinking when he got into the truck with two obviously lowlife tweakers that had been binging on booze and drugs all week long? Just letting these guys DRIVE was a bad move.

When you bring up the “personal responsibility” question, the standard Loopy Loony Liberal Lemming response is to become overwrought emotionally and screech, “Oh, so you think it’s OKAY to kill gay people?*” or some similar non sequitur nonsense.

    Nobody said that.

The homosexual “lifestyle” lends itself to a lot of unsafe behavior, such as the whole “Cruising” and “Bathhouse” nonsense. Matthew Shepard went beyond even that, and bears some responsibility for his own dangerous behavior, and his own demise.

Not a popular view, but absolutely true.

As the saying goes, you lie down with mangy dogs, y’all are gonna get fleas…..

    ______
Ok, was this the point in which the “hate crime” was committed ?
The very notion of a hate crime assumes a judge, jury and/or prosecutor can mind read the perp to discern his true motivation
“Hate” by itself could never be considered a crime, could it ?
    If so, please explain.
But if not, define hate crime while applying it EQUALLY under the law and then explain why “hate” makes the crime worse.
For instance, say I am a white hetero male. Which “hate crimes” am I protected under the law from ?
Don’t worry, there is no right or wrong answers here.
The goal, however is to apply the law equally, right ?
Otherwise the law itself becomes that which it attempts to cure

In the end, a hate crime either discriminates, or it cancels itself out and “hate” simply becomes an innocuous word to add to “crime”

  14. AC says:

They killed Matthew and got life without, yet liberals complained about the lack of a hate crime enhancement.

The only way to enhance over life without is with about 2000 volts, but liberals scream and whine when we try to punish criminals that way.

Should they be made to wear a scarlet ‘H’?

    DIT-TOH!!!

And what if Shepard had had a gun and shot the hood wearing yootes described in Jimbo’s scenario?

Would the “hate crime” shoe then be on the other foot?

    hate crime = THOUGHT crime

In Sheperd’s case he was involved in a lot of criminal drug activity, so we definitely would NOT have wanted him armed.

For those in the gay community that are afraid of getting “bashed”, more power to ‘em if they choose to arm themselves. Self defense is a God-given human right.

  17. Ummah Gummah says:

TonyD95B at August 10, 2012 at 3:09 pm: I was giving a hypothetical to point out the absurdity of all this “hate crime” blather being promoted by liberals.

The white gay guy can be “hate crimed” by other white guys, but if black guys did it he’d be “just another dead honky” like Jimbo said.

But IF the gay white guy shoots black attackers, it is suddenly the gay white guy who is guilty of a “hate crime”.

Soem animals are more equal than the others and some are even more equal.

    Tony
Admittedly, I have not followed this case.
    A life sentence seems just
But it sure sounds as if he made his own bed
    (so to speak)
If a hate crime can bring a harsher sentence, should these circumstances garner less ?

  23. AC says:

    A life sentence seems just

Not for the people who wake up at 6AM, head into work, and spend all day away from their families to earn an honest paycheck.

The typical maximum security prisoner costs $40k or more a year to house.

Why should Wyoming taxpayers shell out $80k or more a year to house this despicable human garbage?

No argument here over the death penalty
I always saw it as a means to rid society of the worst of the worst.
    Mass killers, rapists ect
There is plenty of those to go around as well.
As far as cost, death isn’t cheap either

  27. fubar says:

funny. I remember when this case was publicized and how all the attention was on the fact that he was gay and that’s why he was targeted (showing how they distort the narrative)

i keep saying in our upside down world,, “nothing is at it seems” because everything is either a lie, distortion or warped to fit someone on the left’s agenda. ALWAYS THE LEFT’S agenda.

  28. Adam says:

Another important factor in this case is that the killers were high on crystal meth at the time. People high on meth are known to go temporarily insane and become extremely violent. If someone wanted to use the murder promote a cause, it should be “Just say no” to drugs. It was only considered a hate crime because the killers (One of whom was himself bisexual) used some gay slurs when telling their girlfriends about it afterwards.
