What We Got for the $535 Million Obama Flushed Down Solyndra

The derangement known as moonbattery reduced art from Rembrandt to forgettable screwballs drinking paint and then vomiting on the canvas. Comparably, it reduced our political leadership from Thomas Jefferson to Barack Hussein Obama. Now it is bringing the worlds of art and politics together. Ever wonder what we got in return for the $535 million of our money Obama flushed down Solyndra in exchange for the $50,000 George Kaiser raised for his campaign? Here’s what — modern art:

solyndra-art
Your tax dollar at play.

The Solyndra glass tube exhibit is billed as “SOL Grotto.” Fittingly, it is located at the University of California Botanical Garden in moonbatty Berkeley. The Endless Swarm offers a review:

“SOL Grotto”, by Ronald Rael & Virginia San Fratello, was a delightful meditation on perception. Situated above Strawberry Creek, the dark wooden bunker is pierced with hundreds of glass pipes cozened from local ex-company Solyndra. Tiny snippets of the world outside can be discerned through the tubes, making one feel like they’re inside the compound eye of an insect.

Groovy. But for $535 million, you could buy enough LSD to make the whole country feel like it’s inside a bug’s eye.

I remember Millie Brown the vomit artist. I always thought she should use some corn for texture, her work would have sold more.

The insect here is George Kaiser and his benefactor, the tyrant Barack Hussein Obama.

You can’t really blame the artist for buying surplus materials after Solyndra was already out-of-business. It’s not like this art was made by Solyndra.

What we got for the stimulus funds was a crack at establishing a domestic solar manufacturing plant, including local jobs. The reasons for Solyndra’s bankruptcy are complex, but it was a legitimate attempt to build a real company with real manufacturing jobs. It was not some scam, like, say giving the wealthiest 1% absurd tax cuts and hoping that somehow yacht manufacturing will provide us all with jobs.

Cozened? I had never heard this word before; I needed to look it up:

    coz·en
    v. coz·ened, coz·en·ing, coz·ens
    v.tr.
    1. To mislead by means of a petty trick or fraud; deceive.
    2. To persuade or induce to do something by cajoling or wheedling.
    3. To obtain by deceit or persuasion.
    v.intr.
    To act deceitfully.

    Very interesting….

Hell the Chinese subsidize their solar manufacturing plants, why shouldn’t America?

  • MicahStone

Doubling-down on the idiotic waste of our money…so first the OBOZO regime wastes taxpayer money with OBOZO’s crony capitalists at solyndra to make these tubes, then the OBOZO regime uses taxpayer money to fund some artsy-fartsy group to make them into an exhibit !

  • Libtard

Yes.. I suppose its fitting to have a Solyndra exhibit dedicated to transmitting light to an insect brain.

If everybody else were jumping off a bridge while smoking cigarettes, would you do it, too?

“…but it was a legitimate attempt to build a real company with real manufacturing jobs.”

My GAWD what a dumbass statement.

The government cannot create jobs. The government shouldn’t even be TRYING to “make” jobs. If this had been a legitimate business, private enterprise would have made it work. The only thing government “makes” work is Bill Clinton’s penis.

Why do liberals say the stupidest things imaginable and pretend they’re “smart”? Liberals should NOT be allowed to vote! They’re too STUPID!!!

Great this can be part of Barry’s legacy exhibit, which will have art work made from failed stimulus projects. Some examples will be a Chevy Volt that is now a toilet with dollars swirling around in the basin or a montage showing the faces of the unemployed or the signatures of the 100 million now on welfare.

SOL Grotto is a perfect title though.
We taxpayers are S.O.L as far as getting any return on our”investment” and S.O.L if Supreme Leader O gets another term.

    .
    “SOL Grotto”???

Since Solyndra was held up by Hussein Obama as the vision of the future, shouldn’t it be called “LOL Grotto”?

  • Sinister66

The whole “Solyndra as the vision of the future” crap started in 2007 and was able to begin getting funding through the Energy Policy Act of 2005. they began getting their funding through the Loan guarantee program in late 2007 as part of the 1703 program.

Glass tubes that were not paid for were thrown in the dumpster at Solyndra. Whatever the artist paid, it is probably more than Solyndra got otherwise (pretending here that the artist didn’t simply “take” the tubes without permission.

What we got for the stimulus funds was a crack at establishing a domestic solar manufacturing plant, including local jobs. Only a government employee would think that giving taxpayer money to an operation that had an operating cost of $6.00 per square foot, selling product into a market where the market price is $3.00 per square foot was close to a good idea. But the government employees don’t care because it isn’t their money.

As for tax cuts for the rich creating jobs…you are out of your depth. People invest money in workers and equipment if they can keep more of the profit. When much of the expected profit is siphoned off by the government, people are less willing to invest their generally hard earned money.

How much money of your own would you be willing to invest in Solyndra?

  • Chris in N.Va.

Even after this money-flushing operation has gone onto the ash heap of history we’re seeing a clear metaphor for how this crony-capitalism, quazi socialist/fascist government continues to give us the shaft.

So, what’s the carbon footprint of this work of “art”?

  • Sinister66

    KHarn says:

“It was a crap idea by a DEMOCRAT controled Congress.”

Actually the Energy Policy Act of 2005 was sponsored by Rep. Joe Barton [R-TX6]and republicans dominated both houses of congress. Solyndra did however recieve additional money from the section 1705 program (ARRA.
They were the first company to recieve money from both programs.

I don’t give a SHIT who started it, I said “it was a CRAP IDEA” and asked why your TIN GOD didn’t put an end to it. He did promass an “end to politics as usual”, you know.
