Clint made a lot of great points via one-liners and it got to the libs. He was hampered by his age and that affected his delivery. I would like to see Dennis Miller do that same speech with the same empty chair.

“Empty Chair Barry” was a *composite* of an “empty suit” and “the emperor has no clothes”.

Eastwood was perfect. You’d have to be of a certain age to appreciate some of his references and the delivery. James Stewart (“Harvey”) and Bob Newhart both came to mind.

I’ve followed politics for more than 40 years and would sit through a week of these awful conventions if they were as refreshingly honest as Clint Eastwood was last night. No one else has had the guts to go after The One like this. And, let’s face it: most conservatives have been as apathetic as hell until Obama. Mr. Eastwood reminded us of our rights and responsibilities.

There’s nothing “hampered” about this man, imho. I can think of no other man at age 82 who is as smart, funny, tough, and sexy.

Love the graphic, Dave! I’m thinking it might be a great screen-saver.

  • Bob Roberts

Don’t get me wrong, Jim, I like Clint, but I think you are correct that Dennis Miller would have done even better – even much better. Nothing against Clint, mind you, but you are correct about Miller.

  • Bob Roberts

And “empty chair” Barry was that and so much more louie – the President who would rather golf and vacation than do the job fools and election fraud put him in office to accomplish, for instance.

The problem with actually letting Obama speak would be you would never hear the end of it and it would all be such complete nonsense.

No, it was honkey code for the seat upfront on the bus that I’m not allowed to sit on. That picture is a racist dog whistle too. Dirty Harry said that to an oppressed black man trying to make his way in a cracker world.

Clint hit it on the nail. His age did not detract from the message. He spoke the truth in a funny way, and his “doddering” manner just made it more effective. Obama is now a joke.

I also have to agree with Jim’s comment above. I’ve been a major Eastwood fan since his acting career started, but having him speak was (IMO) a mistake. Perhaps Romney wanted to show that he too has some support from the Commiewood community, but all he did was to open himself, his campaign, and Clint, to ridicule. Supplying your eneimes with ammo is never a good idea.

If they wanted exciting speakers, Denis Miller would have been a great choice. And what of Sarah Palin, Allen West, Artur Davis, and the other powerful Conservatives who were more than willing to help?

While it’s true that i’m not a Romney fan, watching his speech did nothing to change my mind. While it’s quite clear to me that he’s a decent, smart, and honest man, it’s also clear he lacks the “street-fighter” element that is needed in this fight with the Marxist-in-Chief, the MSM, and all the rabid radicals of the Left.

Then again, anyone who can throw the Muslim-in-Chief out of the WH has my support. I just hope Romney can weather the coming battle.

I see someone beat me to this, but in case you missed it:

Feds end probe of ‘America’s toughest sheriff’ Joe Arpaio; no charges

Obama’s politically motivated abuse of power witch hunt has ended.

U.S. Scales-Back Military Exercise with Israel, Affecting Potential Iran Strike
A smaller U.S. contingent may make it more difficult for the Israeli government to launch a pre-emptive strike on Tehran’s nuclear program.

    Armstrong’s personal assistant unloads.

More and more evidence, admittedly from those who may have an axe to grind, is piling up against Armstrong. But the fact remains, under the rules in effect at the time, he raced without ever having a positive test that would have been grounds for taking action against him.

Do we like him less now that we know what he was apparently like? Yes, definitely. But he still did what he did, and he won. You can deny that but you can’t change history, can’t really take it away.

Looks like the French are wising up quicker than Americans did – for there’s still a chance, however slight, that with a combination of propaganda and voter fraud, Obama might squeak by in November.

We must not let that happen.

More proof gun laws don’t accomplish their stated goals.

When will moonbats learn: Criminals by definition ignore and break laws. The primary effect of gun laws is to disarm law-abiding citizens and leave them at the mercy of armed criminals.

But there is more to this story: Montre Bradley, 19, was in a crowd waiting for the retail release of a new sneaker when he was shot. He died later at the hospital. Witnesses say two men robbed people in line waiting for the expensive shoes. His family told 13WHAM News, Bradley came to Rochester from California at the age of 14 after getting into some trouble while living with his mom. His cousin, Diontaye Thompson, says “You can see how the world is like changing, people killing over sneakers.”

Getting rid of guns won’t change this. The criminals will just use knives, clubs, whatever it takes to still have power and gain control over others. Guns aren’t the problem, it’s the people and their behaviors that are the problem.

Obama campaign likely to round people up and essentially force them to come to event.

They can’t afford to have an empty seat so who knows how much they will spend, or what methods they might use, to coerce people to come to this event?

Obama: You’re going to get what you deserve for backing OCCUPY!

“Protesters planning rallies and marches in Charlotte say their actions during the Democratic National Convention will likely dwarf those in Tampa, where thousands of demonstrators were expected but only hundreds showed up to the rain-drenched Republican National Convention.

While I personally doubt there will be any major protests, it’s poetic justice that the plan is to protest hard against the Democrats, who are the root cause of much if not most of what is wrong in and with America today.

  • Bob Roberts

    Another obamunist overreaction.

CLEARLY the idea is that we need Obama to “retire” and go home, nothing more sinister than that. CLEARLY the intent is to actually encourage people to pray for this loser of a joke of a moonbat we have in office now.

More waste of taxpayer money to punish those who oppose Obama – he is a caricature of a third world dictator, exactly what some on the left said we needed and now look what a mess he’s made since taking office!

  • Bob Roberts

Burglar’s “defense”? “I wouldn’t do all this if the government game me more money!”

An 82-year-old woman with a rap sheet dating back to 1955 has been arrested on suspicion of burglarizing at least eight doctors’ offices throughout Torrance.

SURPRISE! She’s black… and a clear and ongoing danger to herself and others:

Thompson has a 21-page rap sheet that includes arrests from 1955 for disturbing the peace, burglary, forgery and grand theft from Los Angeles to the South Bay to Beverly Hills, according to the Daily Breeze. She was arrested in connection with a homicide in 1957.

  • Bob Roberts

A new “human” (or sort of) sub-species is theorized.

NOTE: Though the line has been blurred, as I understand it, the original definition of “species” included the fact that organisms from different species could not mate and produce viable offspring. These days that line is crossed repeatedly, most often by greeniacs who want to suggest there is some new “species” we’ve discovered that is on the verge of extinction. They create new species out of whole cloth, based on some minor variation which is NOT truly enough to redefine the organism as a unique species, so that if/when it disappears it will artificially inflate the extinction rate and bolster their false claims humans are precipitating a mass extinction event.

The thing that’s hidden in the story – this may eventually be the basis of a theory that American-Africans, and Africans in general, are the present day descendants of human/Denisovan mating perhaps. Of course to actually say that is racist, or some will claim.

    Still, note this part:

The researchers will only conclude that Denisovans likely had dark skin. They also note that there are alleles “consistent” with those known to call for brown hair and brown eyes.

    Read about this here.

I posted this – about the government going after a public library for lending “e-books”, before.

WHAT NONSENSE! This is not what the ADA or any other law was meant to encourage and is clearly the type abuse typical of the Obama INjustice department.

Just because the blind could not take advantage of this was no reason to deny it to the public at large. The idea in the Constitution is not that we were all actually born exactly equal – WE CLEARLY WERE NOT. The idea is that we are to be treated as equal when it comes to the law. Librarys usually stock audio materials that the blind may enjoy, but it’s not their fault that the blind are blind and they should not be penalized for offering things to sighted people just because the blind cannot also utilize them.

    The key points here are:

    1) The library already spends time, effort and money catering to the blind with audio materials which are provided primarily for them, but also for anyone else who might wish to use them.

    2) This action was not the result of a valid complaint – apparently it was something some bored attorney did in his or her spare time – which suggests a staff reduction is in order.

Amy Calhoun, an Electronic Resources Librarian at the Sacramento Public Library who helped launch the ebook reader project, said she was unaware of any objections from a blind person regarding the program. “I have not heard of a specific complaint directly from a patron,” she told CNSNews.com. “But I do know that patrons who are part of the statewide Braille and talking-book program do get in touch with us for audio books.”

  • Bob Roberts

As part of the settlement agreement, the Justice Department directed the library system to purchase at least 18 e-readers that are accessible to the blind, something that comes in the midst of budget cuts that have forced Sacramento libraries to implement one employee furlough day each month for two years.

  • Bob Roberts

The Nook can cost under $100.

The devices ordered by the Obama Department of Injustice as part of the agreement not to pursue the matter cost from about twice to over eight times as much.

Adding the Apple devices could cost the library anywhere from $3,582 with the purchase of 18 of the most inexpensive iPod Touch models, to $14,922 if they wish to provide the high-end version of the iPad, which cost $829 a piece.

  • Bob Roberts

NOTE: In my earlier post about the Denisovans, note that they suggest that the result of interbreeding is the “people of color” found today in Australia and some Southeast Asian islands. My point, which I made poorly, was that this or similar finds might at some point be the basis for claims the three primary “flavors” of humans (expressed as colors: white, black, yellow) may have resulted from various interbreeding of different subspecies – a theory which, if ever proposed, will not do well in the politically correct atmosphere that exists today.

Moonbats cannot find anything current or significant to complain about with Romney and Ryan, so they go years back and bring up questionable or insignificant things.

Seriously, who cares that he made a mistake about his time – he probably remembered it incorrectly, an honest mistake where he “sweetened” his time in his own mind, but later realized his error and admitted it.

Compare and contrast that with the many current, significant issues where Obama is caught outright lying and somehow the lying liberal moonbat media gives him a free pass every time!

  • Bob Roberts

More moonbat attempts to excuse those who do horrible things. After all, “They can’t help it!”

Personally I don’t care if a person does something horrendous because he was raised poorly, was injured, or just plain chose to be evil to the core. In all such cases it’s the result, not how they got there, that matters the most.

Now if they can be “fixed”, that would be worth exploring, perhaps, but not if it means to leave the public at risk to future horrendous acts.

  • Bob Roberts

Advancing the “social justice” agenda while encouraging more foolish overreach of government and over regulation of businesses.

What they don’t say is that there are whites who live in the same sort of environments but what, they magically are immune to the problem? This is the sort of racism that is the worst – trying to justify something based on allegations one or another race or ethnic group is disproportionally affected and somehow it’s the fault of whites, of males, of corporations, etc.

Before you find out why something is happening you can’t just randomly assume and assign blame.

Note that right at the beginning they tend to prove this isn’t the issue they would like you to believe it is:

traces of some 232 synthetic chemicals in cord blood samples from 10 different babies of African American, Asian and Hispanic descent born in 2009 in different parts of the U.S.

How many babies, total, did they test? Did they deliberately seek out babies who were perhaps neglected or cared for by people who allowed them to have unusual experiences which account for this finding?

I can’t believe only 10 kids is what we’re talking about here? Did they even bother to check any white kids, or just “people of color”?

Clearly this looks like an agenda driven report and effort which has nothing to do with science and everything to do with “social justice”, “economic justice”, etc.

  • Bob Roberts

Perhaps MDA should find a way to continue to allow Jerry Lewis to play some part?

Or is it some sort of fraud on the part of MDA?

Jerry Lewis vs. the Muscular Dystrophy Association: after 50 plus years, MDA tossed Lewis out last year and replaced him as chairman of the charity and host of his famous Labor Day telethon. The 2011 telethon, shrunk to six hours from 21, was ghastly. When it was over MDA trumpeted that they’d made $61 million– up 4 percent from the prior year when Lewis was at the helm. MDA boasted it did better without Jerry.

Alas, it wasn’t true. MDA has just posted its 2011 federal tax form 990 on its website and this tells a much different story. MDA was only able to collect $31 million of that much publicized amount. Without Jerry Lewis to cajole or persuade or inviegle, exactly half the amount came in that was promised by the public. Whether people simply reneged, or never actually pledged that amount at all, remains to be seen.
MDA will argue this happens every year: the tote board total is never what actually comes in. But in 2010, MDA crowed about $58 million at the end of the telethon with Jerry; $48 million came in. In 2009, the first telethon after the recession, the shortfall was about $15 million–$60 million announced, $45 million arrived.
For last year, MDA lists gross receipts from the first non Jerry Lewis telethon at $30,683,816. The charitable contribution portion was 18,059,876 . This left a gross income of $12,623,940.

Obama can’t get away from inserting racism into everything he says.

    “Black & White”…

While his context was completely wrong, Obama did get this right:

Everything is bad, it’s Obama’s fault, and Gov. Romney is the only one who knows the secret to creating jobs and growing the economy.

Clint was GREAT. I think that some people drank the MSM koolaid that Clint screwed up. He didn’t. He put BO in his place, and that is a very small place. BO is a bullshitter. He TALKS good but does nothing. And for all of his high and mighty rhetoric, deep down he’s just a VERY DIRTY POLITICIAN. A disgustingly dirty politician. I LOVE what Clint did, and at his age he could STILL kick Barry’s whiny liberal ass any day of the week.

  • Alphamail

George Mason says @ 8:52 pm:

    I agree wholeheartedly.

And the people who want to slight his performance by saying someone else would have done better are people who either couldn’t do it themselves or who are so egocentric they believe they could have created a better circumstance or a better outcome.

I’d like to see the “nuns with a switch” try to stand live before the entire nation and adlib an effective narrative at eighty-two years old.

    Where does pomposity end?

Dennis Miller could have done better…so what?

Clint Eastwood did a nice job – to say someone else could have done better simply casts a cloud on a very effective and genuine moment.

It is what it is for God’s sake.

  • Jodie

I agree with Alphamail. My daughter and I watched Clint’s performance and we loved it. The only issue we had was that when he started talking to the chair, it would have been better if the camera was at a different angle and showed the chair, because it looked to us like he was talking to someone in the audience. I love that Clint was himself and didn’t try to act differently to pander to anyone. He really made my day!
