Government Motors Volts Lose $49,000 per Vehicle
For those who can’t figure out for themselves that clueless moonbats like Barack Hussein Obama should not be entrusted to establish fascist-style de facto control over automobile manufacturers, maybe this will help:
Nearly two years after the introduction of the path-breaking plug-in hybrid, GM is still losing as much as $49,000 on each Volt it builds, according to estimates provided to Reuters by industry analysts and manufacturing experts.
Cheap Volt lease offers meant to drive more customers to Chevy showrooms this summer may have pushed that loss even higher. There are some Americans paying just $5,050 to drive around for two years in a vehicle that cost as much as $89,000 to produce. …
GM’s basic problem is that “the Volt is over-engineered and over-priced,” said Dennis Virag, president of the Michigan-based Automotive Consulting Group.
Wrong. GM’s basic problem is that it was “rescued” by Big Government. The free market would never permit wasting such massive amounts of money on a moonbatmobile that no one wants to buy. But government is run by ideological kooks who couldn’t care less about the bottom line because they can always loot more from taxpayers.
Incredibly, Democrats have been campaigning on their disastrous and highly unpopular GM bailout, which entailed dumping over $50 billion of our money into GM and then turning it over to the malignant UAW rather than letting it use bankruptcy to escape from union contracts into solvency.
That smelly brown stuff formerly known as Hope & Change will really hit the fan if Holder’s voter fraud initiative gets Obama reelected, and he goes on to “save” the food industry.

They are not losing money. The balance sheet is merely “evolving”.
GM to Temporarily Halt Volt Production

There is no price for saving the Planet. /sarcasm
Did obama’s enrgy czar Stephen Chu the proponent of perpetual motion, tell obama that what GM looses on each individual Volt they will make up in volume sales?
At least the Trabant looks better being hung from the ceiling of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

So the government gets into the car business and does the equivalant of selling dollar bills for 75 cents each.
Hey, I have an idea, let’s put them in charge of our HEALTH CARE!
With the left’s hatred of profits, this news will likely help to re-elect Obama.
75 cents on the dollar, the left hates profits, gov’t nationalizing major corps, and STILL the polls show a dead heat or a ‘convention bounce’.
I have GOT to believe they’re skewing the polls, either to deflate conservative enthusiasm or to keep TV ratings up by making it a neck-and-neck horse race. THERE ARE ONLY 20 PERCENT WHO IDENTIFY AS “LIBERAL”.
I still see a Romney landslide in Nov. And woe to the media when it does. You’re on notice: never again.
Anon-Y-Mouse, convention bounces are meaningless. McCain got a higher bounce than Obama last time, and look how that turned out.
And please do not confuse the polls as containing any meaningful data. They ask as few hundred people their opinion on a specific question on a given day and then try to claim that is how the entire country thinks?
Only leftards could take an idea so obviously dumb, and fail at its implementation so thoroughly as to make the original idea actually look good.
Let me be clear: we may lose some money on every sale, but we will make it up on volume.
“Incredibly, Democrats have been campaigning on their disastrous and highly unpopular GM bailout”
You can do that when you control the narrative. I’ll wager a majority of Americans think GM is booming and they paid all the money back to the government.
Hell, Obama could probably run claiming he reduced the deficit and get away with it.
The only thing that can save this country is if there are at least 55% of the people left who aren’t complete morons or utterly clueless about what is going on. Whether that is the case is not abundantly clear at this point.
This scheme is every Marxist economic professor’s wet dream.
Following the criminal Obama’s usual logic, for every Volt not produced he, as the Auto Commissar, has “created or saved” taxpayer dollars.

I have an acquaintance over in Dresden that collects Trabis.
As phucked up and flawed as the Trabant was, at least it was sound conceptually, and was somewhat viable as an automobile.
The most incredible thing about the Billions that were given to GM, (actually, the money was given to the unions for their political support) is that the American sheeple tolerated the theft! And i’m quite sure they’ll continue to be tolerant when GM uses the people’s money and opens 600 new dealerships, in China.
I was going to ask the question: “is there anyone in this country, so stupid and so dumb, as to believe the govt. can do anything right”? Then i realized the answer is obviously yes.
The concept for the Chevy Volt was unveiled in 2007, so this is clearly George Bush’s fault.
The Pentagon bought hundreds of Volts and so did other federal agencies. I’m sure those purchases were not compelled. It’s the only way to produce sales figures for the re-VOLT-ing.
What do you call a Gubbermint Motors Volt owner?

Good one!
The electric car was made untill 1935 because some people wanted something for short trips around town and because they thought that a gas-powered car was “complicated” to operate. However, the “gas buggy” proved more efficent and was quite easy to operate. The electric “golf cart” appiered in the late 40′s and later found a place around industrial areas and “retirement communities”, but NO ONE wanted to try taking ANY electric vehicle cross-country!
Like many “progressive” ideas, the Volt is “a solution looking for a problem”.
The concept of the VOLT has been under wraps since 2005 and was unveiled in 2007. HOWEVER, this Administration forced it into production as a stealth condition of the bailout. the VOLT was not scheduled to go into production until 2014 at the earliest…and it was to be ALL ELECTRIC.
** crickets **
The $49,000 loss doesn’t include the taxpayer provided bribe of $7,500 to get people to buy one of these.
The cost to convert my Prius to a plug-in was a pittance compared to the massive waste of the Volt.
As usual, the market works again. I’ll recoup my investment in less than three years at these current gas prices.
Guess what Vladimir Putin, King Abdullah, Hugo Chavez, and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad all have in common.
