Only after having read Dangerous Diplomacy — which documents the moonbattery with which the State Department is rotten to the very core — could I believe this:
U.S. Marines defending the American embassy in Egypt were not permitted by the State Department to carry live ammunition, limiting their ability to respond to attacks like those this week on the U.S. consulate in Cairo.
Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson “did not permit U.S. Marine guards to carry live ammunition,” according to multiple reports on U.S. Marine Corps blogs spotted by Nightwatch. “She neutralized any U.S. military capability that was dedicated to preserve her life and protect the US Embassy.” …
While Marines are typically relied on to defend U.S. territory abroad, such as embassies, these reports indicate that the Obama administration was relying on Egypt’s new Muslim Brotherhood-backed government to ensure American security, a move observers are questioning as violence in Cairo continues to rage.
Now who would question the wisdom of relying on rabidly anti-American Islamic terrorists to ensure American security? Certainly no one in the administration that helped them to power.
Meanwhile, Americans are getting killed by mobs of Muslim savages, after reportedly being subjected to homosexual rape.

Not saying that it’s necessarily untrue, but this story has no source AT ALL. The “Free Beacon” piece links to the site “Nightwatch”, which does make the claim-based on “USMC Blogs” but does not provide a link or the name of the blog.
I searched several USMC Blogs-found not a thing. Even if this was true, I simply cannot imagine Marines advertizing the vulnerability of other Marines on a flipping blog site(not to mention it would be a crime on the level of Bradley Manning…actually far WORSE since it would involve real-time operational security). I will be shocked if that happened. I call BS.
I had a couple of Marine uncles, one on Mt Suribachi etc., another at Chosin. Just as well they’re no longer here to see this. It’s so hard to read it makes my eyes sweat.

A hundred years ago on the Arizona/Mexican border, the US Army was posted here and there to keep “revolutionaries” from robbing ranches and farms. The mexicans would shoot at the American sentries, but “to avoid an incident” the officer in charge wouldn’t alow the solders to carry ammunition on duty. On solder got sick of it and wrote his brother, asking him for some 30-06 rounds. He got four rounds and when he was shot at, he open fired on the mexicans. Of course, he was punnished, but the shots from the south STOPPED.

Marines spoke out on the absurd ROE and ammo-free policies over in the sandbox. While they weren’t supposed to be leaking that information, some people did anyway, because the asinine directives from political leaders were costing lives.
I can see the lack of ammo being deliberately leaked here as part of a calculated plan to shame the administration into letting the Marines do their jobs with the tools they need.
I’m not saying that is what happened, as there is no evidence either way, however the motive and precedent would be there.

Well, as far as I know, requiring Marines to have no live ammo is standard at our embassies. I remember reading it long ago when there was another kerfuffle at one of our embassies.
Forget blogs and such. It is easy (for muzzies) to determine if Marines are carrying live ammo. Send in a couple muj and see if they get shot or if they simply get beat. It is a time honored strategy called a probe.
But considering the backbone of the CINC it was a always a high degree of probability that Marines would be defanged.

safe house. And , of course, it wasn’t just the ambassador who was murdered — other Americans died as well , including a former Seal, I believe. Obama, Clinton, Patterson( if it’s true that the RoE prohibited live ammo in Cairo) need to be held accountable

Whether these Marines carried ammo or not is almost beside the point. For whatever reason, they were unable/forbidden from defending the embassy and our flag.
Personally, it is SOP for Obama to throw anybody necessary under the bus to protect himself. I don’t know anything about Ambassator Patterson, but I’ll bet you can see tire tracks across her if you looked close enough. I hope she re-evaluates who she chooses to vote for and who she chooses to serve.
Alan, if the Marines were carrying live ammo in their weapons, why weren’t there some rioters with bullet holes in them? Were the marines ordered to stand down? Fall back and defend the embassy (but not the grounds)? They just didn’t want to make a bad situation worse?
I was watching Fox News late last night, about 4 am Cairo time. The rioters scattered every time a police car drove buy. Of course the MSM would have a field day showing the shot-up rioters bodies laying outside the embassy. But…I suspect the rioters would have taken their circus elsewhere.
I also note that two of those who died in Libya were former Navy Seals. What tools did these men have to defend themselves and protect our ambassador? Again, no reports of dead rioters.

All of those independent accounts were of the same original report that has now been proven false. The marines did have and were carrying live ammo.
