Occucommies Handed $1 Million Payoff
This explains why Occucommie protestors would be willing to goad police into using pepper spray:
The University of California has agreed to pay $1 million to settle a lawsuit filed by demonstrators who were pepper-sprayed during an Occupy protest at UC Davis last fall, according to a preliminary settlement filed Wednesday. …
Under the proposed settlement, UC would pay $30,000 to each of 21 plaintiffs named in the complaint and an additional $250,000 for their attorneys to split.
[Chancellor Linda] Katehi, who has publicly apologized for the incident, would be required to issue a formal written apology to each of the plaintiffs…
The settlement also calls for UC to set aside $100,000 to pay other individuals who can prove they were arrested or pepper-sprayed. The university would give the ACLU up to $20,000 for its work reviewing free speech and protest policies at UC Davis.
In short, the university had its pockets turned inside out. But since our dysfunctional legal system is run by moonbats, going to court would have cost it even more.
This sort of nonsense also helps explain why college tuition is shooting through the stratosphere, even as Big Government pours ever more money into education. Ironically, the protests were largely over tuition hikes.

On tips from Mattius Maximus and Bob Roberts.

I wonder if pepper spray makes them smell any better…
The ACLU and the lawyers should be lined up and given a choice. Bullet to the noggin or a big ole dose of pepper spray in the eyes.
@Judith M. The only thing that will make the occucommies smell better is putting them on a leaky container ship and towing them out to sea.
F’in lawyers.
I firmly believe that we can no longer live with these maggots and prosper or survive. I wrote my Articles of Secession because I can see that with liberals infecting our nation, WE need to go our own way and let them fester in their own pus, walled off from the rest of us.
See, crime does pay.
Don’t fret…you see, this is why we will win. Their heart is not in it…half these idiots don’t know what they’re fighting for..the rest are fighting for a personal payoff, as we see here. We fight for what’s real…truth and liberty. We do not seek personal reward…we seek justice, we seek the survival of the United States of America and everything it stands for. This is why we will prevail…what we fight for gives us strength…what they fight for just adds to their selfish, cowardly character…they will not stand in strength under those values…they will crumble when the going gets tough.
Your tax dollars at work. And people wonder why California is broke.
Most of them will A) blow it all in a year, or B) use it for law school so they in turn can sue other people for a living.
The university will not be any poorer for this. The ones who will be paying this will be the incoming freshmen, through higher tuition, and the already overburdened taxpayers of the State of California.
Give me $30,000 and you can hit me with anti-BEAR pepper spray.
$30K… ya I’d take a pepper hosing for that. Then again it’s not like it’s coming outa some ovrer-bloated admin’s pockets…
Amen, Ant.
Davis, CA was once a sleepy farm town – much like one you’d find in Kansas, with a little college that was embraced by the community. Unfortunately, being in CA, it’s an easy target for professional communist-organizing leaches.
$30k for something undergone as routine training by every military and police recruit.
These filthy hippies must really feel abused, because their lack of fortitude means they could never protect and serve.

When I first saw this video, while not on the side of the hippies, I wasn’t for this officer’s conduct.
Increasingly, our police resort to non-lethal means to render arrest. I can understand blasting a guy with spray to render arrest if he’s resisting, but that step hasn’t even been taking… all you’ve got there is a group of patchouli-stinking miscreants sitting on the ground. Same goes for tasering… it’s an alternative to deadly force.
Call me old fashioned, but I not only expect, but demand that cops maintain a level of physical fitness that allows them to render arrest under most circumstances without the aid of little toys and accessories… that’s what they’re PAID to do, with OUR money.
This fat turd of a piggy we see in this photo has gotten a little too used to being a cop on a relatively safe beat such as a college campus. He’s been slaying the donut box a little too much and couldn’t be asked to get physical with a suspect for more than about ten seconds before he was gasping for precious oxygen molecules.
Hire fat lazy turds, pay fat settlements from lazy parasitic lawyers.
As usual, the lawyers make out like bandits.
$30,000 for getting pepper sprayed? Good thing there weren’t any Chinese construction trucks in the area.
So, the old hippies running UC Davis rewarded the new crop of hippies with a million in cash, and this all happens in California. Why is anyone surprised?
@Eoin – I agree
The picture bothers me. I have the same contempt for occupy agitators as the other commenters. But pepper spray should be outlawed. Also outlaw tasers. It’s too damn easy for some cop to just squeeze a trigger and cause a lot of pain. Cops already have a “submit & obey” mindset going on and they’re far too willing to hurt others for any reason whatsoever.
That cop in the photo was in a very controlled environment. His life and safety were not at risk at all. It wasn’t a riot it was a sit-in.
The problem for the rest of us is that we have to deal with cops like that, too. No, we’re not occupier hoodlums but to cops it often doesn’t matter. They don’t differentiate between civilians. We’re all just targets to some cops.
@Vic Kelley: I agree with what you said, but I am in the end, a supporter of both pepper-spray and taser devices, for both civilians and cops. I believe it’s important for police to have a continuum of force that has more steps than just deadly force after physical restraint is not an option.
What I find disturbing is the trend for police to use non-lethal device options as a substitute for hands-on rendering of arrest. 180 pound cop and 240 pound suspect? I can understand a cop skipping physical restraint and going to aiming a taser with verbal commands before firing. Non-compliance is, however, not an excuse for resorting to non-lethal devices as a first resort, especially when the physical disparity favors the cop so obviously (like that douche who tasered that foul-mouthed grandma on the side of the road for refusing to cooperate).
I’m a concealed weapons carrier, and I carry spray as well. You can’t draw down on some douche who starts some shit and begins to act like an ass for crimes like aggressively vandalizing your property, as you’d be hard-pressed to convince a jury that you truly feared for your life. You can, however, in the case of the turd who started beating on the side of my truck when he felt I was parked too close to his vehicle but didn’t realize I was speaking with my First Sergeant on the phone– you can roll down the window and jam a nice steady stream of capsicum into his eyesockets with a verbal warning about half a second before the juice splashes off his face.
