UC Merced Blows $80,000 to Promote Communism and Sexual Depravity

This offers some insight into why college costs are shooting through the stratosphere, despite being coercively subsidized by the government:

The University of California–Merced (UCM) spent $80,000 in a self-described attempt to advance ideas of “economic justice.”

Although “economic justice” is normally understood to mean “communist tyranny,” the educrats at UCM have broader goals:

According to the school’s official website, UCM aims to create a “society in which the distribution of resources is equitable” and promote “cultural awareness.”

To bring these goals to term, the university created a special “Social Justice” department which hosts annual events such as the “National Coming Out Awareness” week and a “Multicultural Odyssey in San Francisco.”

Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Charles Nies lays to rest worries that money fleeced from students and taxpayers is being used by this public university to advance a leftist political agenda:

“We wouldn’t use student fees to advance any political views. … That [pride week] is promoting human dignity, right? … The idea of supporting human dignity… I didn’t realize there was a political division on whether or not we are supporting human dignity.”

Here’s how letting libs run our universities affects the cost of education:

Tuition at the University of California (UC) has risen dramatically over the past two decades. According to the UC’s Budget for Current Operations, tuition and fees were just $1,624 in 1990-91 compared to $12,192 in the 2011-12 school year.

Don’t worry, Obama has nationalized student loans. Provided you belong to a politically correct special interest group, you should have no trouble acquiring enough of other people’s money to pay for college no matter how high tuition goes. As for paying back the massive loans required — that would not be consistent with the principles of “economic justice.”

“Human dignity” on the march.

Oh, Lord–WHY did I have look at that! Human dignity, indeed.

It is so gross when coffee rises up in one’s throat.

You know, I think that I deserve an award for buying bathing suits with skirts that come to my knees. I feel I am doing the world (and my own dignity) a favor by doing that. I could just let it all hang out (hang out is the operative word here) for all to see. eeewww.

I am a really oooooldd Momster.

I am leaving for a cruise on Sunday–today I will unpack my old bathing suits and try them on again–just to be sure.

    YIKES!

We’re going to “enlighten” (aka, force that diversity crap down their throats) you ignorant, redneck farmers from the central valley, whether you like it or not.

Looks like the UC BfOC is fudging their numbers a bit: My first quarter, F-1988, at UC cost $388 ($1164/yr); my final quarter, S-1993, cost $1455 ($4365/yr). I know because I worked for and paid every dime of that myself. Back then, students would bitch a little bit about the hikes, maybe an article in the Daily Nexus… today, they hold huge protests, riot, vandalize buildings, and terrorize the Chancellor.

For the record, there is no “tuition” at UC schools, but $12K+ is a hell of a lot of “fees”.

Do the students at UCM practice “Grade Justice” where the grades of all are shared equally ie. those who work hard for the 4.0 have to “share” equally with the potheads who only manage to earn a 1.5 gpa ? I think not……that kind of equality and “justice” is of course unfair!

  7. Lauran says:

Running up debt to be strapped on to future generations to pay off is “social justice” in whose warped mind?

  8. AC says:

Don’t worry, when the debt becomes too large, Ben Bernanke will drop a few quadrillion out of his social justice helicopter.

Our universities are run by, to use an old fashioned word, degenerates.

No need to go that far. Time for economic justice at this university. The guy sweeping the floor is worth just as much as a tenured professor. The girl putting books back on the shelf at the library should make just as much as the university president.

Until they start practicing economic justice on a microscale, how can we possibly learn to practice economic justice on a macroscale.

BTW, human dignity implies that people behave in a dignified manner.
