Santa Claus Compelled to Buy Business License

It’s not even Thanksgiving, and already the War on Christmas is ramping up:

William Mitchell started helping Santa Claus about six Christmases ago.

Mitchell liked the happy feeling the job brought and the small, but helpful extra income.

“It brings happiness to people and it’s not only the kids,” said Mitchell who specializes in adult Christmas parties where he does standup comedy.

This year, he’s trying to generate more business.

Mitchell sent a flyer to the Shelby County [Tennessee] Clerk’s Office saying he would love to work their Christmas party this year.

They didn’t hire him.

Instead, they sent him a letter saying he better come buy a business license or they would turn him over to the district attorney’s office for prosecution.

Hopefully the pernicious libs infesting bureaucracies at all levels of government will receive nothing from Santa but the ashes, switches, and swift kick in the pants they so richly deserve.

Sorry, I have been hearing this story all day and, quite frankly, he is generating income, running a business and there is nothing wrong with the the request to come in for a license. Santa Claus does not need a license, the owner of the business that uses a Santa Claus theme in his business needs the license.

If they can track Santa down and make him pay, more power to them.

However, he’s on a very modest income and has a low overhead, and since he is philanthropic and gives so much away, his write-offs could be through the roof.

He may get a refund the size of our loans to PORKistan.

    H.m.m.m…If I go buy a 2nd hand reindeer, get myself a red…..

Am I to gather from this that in Tennessee, stand-up comedians have to have business licenses?

  • AC

This is not a license. it is a nuisance tax designed to generate enough pointless paperwork to keep the useless bureaucrats employed.

Real licensing involves standards and criteria, such as for truckers hauling around tanks of gasoline.

Right on AC. It’s not a license, it’s a fee and a nuisance.

These “business licenses” are quite the fad in local government lately. I happen to work in a business that operates in hundreds of municipalities, and our people end up having to buy $100-$500 annual licenses in just about each one to do one simple job each. It’s a nuisance, it’s a delay and it’s an expense with zero benefit or protection to the public.

    True……but……a couple of points here:

First, how did they KNOW that he did not have a business license?

Second: Who is the moronic moonbat bureaweenie that decided to check? His supervisor needs to asign him some more work – he is obviously at loose ends.

Third: Threatening prosecution? If he really does need a license, how about a, “Hey, did you know you need a license for that? They’re easy to get – let me help you……” Here again, the ‘weenie responsible needs to be a wee bit more “customer-centric”, as they say in the private sector. To put it more bluntly, he needs to show some respect for the public that pays his / her / its salary.

Fourth: Speaking of taxpayers, I happen to be one, and I object to having to pay to enforce meaningless laws when we have so much else to do. It’s like the “ugly gun” Assault Weapons ban – as a taxpayer I object to having to PAY to enforce a ban on flash hiders and bayonet lugs on military style rifles when they are totally meaningles in terms of public safety.

Fifth: What’s next? Going after the Amway and Meleluca Cartels? A “Sting” operation to catch “Illegal Tupperware Parties”?

Sixth: This is just plain goofy. Sending Santa Claus a letter threatening him with legal action? WTF did they THINK would happen???

Seventh: See Point Six – Did I mention this is just plain GOOFY?

What’s Sandra Fluke got to do with this?

If I was Santa, I would walk into the County Clerk’s office, find the first three females, point at each one, and say, “Ho, ho, ho!”

I told Santa to forget about presents this year – I just want to get a look at the “Naughty Girls” List…………

Not to worry. Who needs an old white Santa when half the country has Baracka Claus coming to town.

Only Socio-Com Santas are allowed from now on.

Tolerance = weakness, and we’re paying the price for it. The American people act like weak, mindless sheep, so they shouldn’t complain when they are treated as such.

Maybe you should READ the news instead just jumping to stupid conclusions:

The clerk’s office told us anyone who sells a service must have a business license.
The catch is the business must bring in more than $3,000.
Last year, Mitchell only made about $100.

HE ONLY MAKES A MISERABLE HUNDRED DOLLARS. HE IS NOT ONE OF THOSE “BIG CORPORATE EVIL MEN” that you in the Left hate so much.
