Sam, I don’t think that the left would have any problem at all with restrictions on the 1st Amendment either – so long as they got to determine the restrictions and those to whom they would apply. Think Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, you get the idea.
The Constitution also grants Congress the power to issue ‘letters of marque and reprisal.’ So, actually, the 2nd Amendment was written with privately owned WARSHIPS in mind.
How far would The Shot Heard ‘Round the World have been heard if the only rounds available to the otherwise law abiding British subject who fired it bounced off the British soldiers’ standard issue red coats?

The letters of marque and reprisal clause was in the main body of the Constitution, but the 2nd Amendment was part of the Bill of Rights controversially added AFTER ratification.

@Bo-Jangles, not all Ex-Pats are feminized, as an Ex-Pat and US Citizen from the UK, I have fully embraced the Bill of Rights/Constitution and the 2nd, given it was orginally based off of the British Bill of Rights. Piers is probally like me, when I moved here having been brain washed by the British Government/Media into believing that firearms have a mind of their own.
Piers “Pompous Ass” Morgan must not realize that when the 2nd Amendment was penned, muskets were the “assault weapon” of the day.

@Tax Slave: What you point out doesn’t change what I said. There’s no way around it: The Constitution and the Bill of Rights were written by people wholly conscious of, and comfortable with, the idea of privately owned cannon and warships.
