Left-wing journalists may have been first to exploit the shootings in Connecticut, but they have not been the most shameless. The statist politicians they enable were quick to follow suit. Rigor mortis had hardly set in before the lowest of the low began screeching for still more gun restrictions, despite the tragedy happening in gun-restrictive Connecticut.
The most nakedly dictatorial politician in the country, NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, demanded “immediate action” toward repealing the Second Amendment.
The comparably odious Rep Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) squealed,
“There’s only one meaningful action [Obama] can take, which is to take on the N.R.A., label them as the enablers of mass murderers they are, really push for strong gun-control legislation and call out those congressional leaders who don’t support it.”
In perfect harmony, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo yelped,
“We as a society must unify and once and for all crack down on the guns that have cost the lives of far too many innocent Americans. Let this terrible tragedy finally be the wake-up call for aggressive action and I pledge my full support in that effort.”
While we’re scraping the bottom of barrel, this clot of demagoguery was coughed up by Boston Mayor Thomas Menino:
“Now is the time for a national policy on guns that takes the loopholes out of the laws, the automatic weapons out of our neighborhoods and the tragedies like today out of our future.”
Most ominously of all, Eric Holder, whose Department of Social Justice was caught arming Mexican drug cartels so as to generate bad press for our gun rights, intoned,
“As a nation I think we have to ask ourselves some hard questions.”
Why not start with an easy question, such as: who could have stopped Adam Lanza before he was able to run up such an appalling body count? Answer: any law-abiding citizen with a gun.
Another easy question: who committed the murders, Lanza or his mom’s guns? Answer: Lanza did. Lacking the guns, he would have used a different tool, like a knife or a bomb. Maybe he would have driven his car through a group of children waiting for the bus; or he might have driven a school bus off a bridge.
Obviously you cannot prevent maniacs from doing evil by blaming the tools they happen to have used.
One more easy question: which two insects will lay their eggs in a child’s freshly killed corpse even before the blow fly, which can smell dead bodies from 10 miles away? Answer: the liberal journalist and the authoritarian politician.
