One way the opponents of liberty undermine our rights is by diluting or twisting the meaning of the very word rights. An obvious example is the “right” to force other people to provide you with goods and services relating to healthcare, as proclaimed by Obama even before he was elected. Michigan Governor Rick Snyder provided another example while vetoing a bill that would have made churches, schools, and daycare centers safer by allowing not only evil maniacs but also the law-abiding to carry concealed weapons. Intoned Snyder:
“While we must vigilantly protect the rights of law-abiding firearm owners, we also must ensure the right of designated public entities to exercise their best discretion in matters of safety and security.”
School systems don’t have rights; individuals do. Primary among them is the right to defend ourselves and our children.
Snyder went on to quack about disenfranchised youth and mental health services, as if making an appointment with a psychologist is a sensible option when the bullets start to fly.
