Do-Gooder Totalitarian Comes Out Against Cats

There is nothing sanctimonious liberal do-gooders wouldn’t take away from you — not even your cat:

Gareth Morgan has a simple dream: a New Zealand free of pet cats that threaten native birds. …

Morgan called on his countrymen Tuesday to make their current cat their last in order to save the nation’s unique bird species. He set up a website, called Cats To Go, depicting a tiny kitten with red devil’s horns. The opening line: “That little ball of fluff you own is a natural born killer.”

He doesn’t recommended people euthanize their current cats — “Not necessarily but that is an option” are the site’s exact words — but rather neuter them and not replace them when they die. Morgan, an economist and well-known businessman, also suggests people keep cats indoors and that local governments make registration mandatory.

The tactics are classic progressivism. Just as Fabian socialists like Obama don’t call for abolishing private property all at once, extermination is to be achieved through birth control. Authoritarians don’t start by confiscating guns, but by making registration mandatory.

Encouragingly, Morgan is encountering resistance. Almost half the households in New Zealand own cats.

Bill Ayers’ house, to be specific.

I prefer talking to people with anger issues thru the internet.

Glad to see you’re still alive and kicking and still able to make threats!

    You forgot homo erectus.

So why don’t all humans gather on the shores of NZ and take a flying leap into the ocean?

    Come on.

I believe H. Erectus is, y’know, kinda extinct.

Hey Rodri [is that a mini-Hilary or something?],

Who’s making threats? Do u libs consider a face-to-face talk as something involving violence?

Maybe I need to buy an English – Libspeak dictionary.

You’d like that, wouldn’t you? That way all the normal people would be gone and u libs would have the place all to urselves.

But then, after a few days.. the creeping realization will begin to creep in.. why have the lights all gone out.. why is there no electricity in the outlets.. why is there noone working at the Supermarket.. where are all those working people who, you know.. make everything run around here..?

Maybe a “A Day without Normal Americans” movie is dying to be made..

Hollyweed.. I got a script idea for ya, and it’s FREE.

But.. cats really are an invasive species.. I love my Doberman Pinscher, but I wouldn’t want to see thousands of feral Dobermans running around…

  • Python

Sorry Dave but I have to disagree with you this time. Cats are extremely deadly to the animals here in Australia as well as NZ. There are no native predators in NZ or Australia (except for our dingoes) and cats don’t kill for food as much as they kill for fun, mutilating the bodies after torturing the poor prey beforehand. We often find the bodies of our stunningly beautiful parrots scattered across our yard. They even kill the paddymelons which are small wallabies, a truly gorgeous animal. The Paddymelons eat the undergrowth in forests and as a result limit the fuel for bushfires.
The cats around Sydney killed so many some years back that the bushfires completely surrounding Sydney almost wiped entire suburbs out.
One of our big bushland parks has professional hunters go in once a month and kill around 200 cats. There is no native wildlife left just introduced species like sparrows and starlings and the bloody myna birds.
Despite the fact that half the households may have cats they are an utter disaster in our part of the world.
I for one, having been a parrot breeder for years, have a zero tolerance attitude for cats. The only good cat in Australia is one with ‘Goodyear’ across its back.

  • KHarn

There was once a man in Europe who convince lots of people that cats should be killed; the result was lots of rats carrying plague-infested fleas.

Cats are independant and self-reliant, that’s why “liberals” hate them.

You can have my cat when you pry her from my warm, comfy, lap!

  • Aussie-John

Have to agree with Python, especially here in the Blue Mountains. Cats are fine, just keep them inside.

  • Mickey Shea

Come after my pets or family and I will gut you like a mackerel, moonbats.

  • Mr Evilwrench

I keep my cats inside anyway. They live longer generally and require less maintenance. I had a few ferals around for a while that took care of my squirrel invasion, damn things had colonized my garage. I would’ve eaten them myself, but the cats did a good job.

What dumbass left a computer turned on so that hopeless naif rodri could get online? I mean, some people you can laugh at, some are just too pathetic.

  • Ghost of FA Hayek

    You have my sympathies here.
No matter how much bird shot I launch at them, they seem to come back in multiples for more.
Personally I am not a huge fan of cats.
But a healthy herd of hungry ones will hunt 24/7 and is the only sure fire hope for control of disease carrying rodents in an agricultural setting.

  • zipity

Sorry to rain on your parade folks, but what exactly is the difference between non-native feral pigs destroying wilderness in GA, FL, TX…or non-native snakes decimating native animals in FL….and cats who kill millions of native birds across the US and New Zealand? Nothing. All are introduced species. Cats that are allowed to run loose should be shot on sight. Period. End of story.

Saying cats are “just doing what comes naturally” is BS, since they are doing it in places they do not naturally belong. Period.

    There, I FIFY.

  • Sami’s Paki Kebab Shack

Once my niece was saying how cute the cat was and we came around the corner of the house and she was there blood soaked and gorging on a bird. Right then and there we blamed George W. Bush for everything and all time.

  • Noelegy

Get rid of cats and you’ll have other problems. Why not just encourage keeping them inside, and a trap/neuter/release progran for ferals?

  • Python

Just keep them away from where they don’t belong. They are not native down this part of the world.
The ferals here in Oz get seriously huge and are bloody hard to kill even with a shotgun. It just bowls them over and up they get again. But the domestic ones are trusting and when you get them you just stick them behind a car exhaust and they go to sleep for a very long while.
