No Spending Problem

It is scary enough that irresponsible collectivist kooks like Tom Harkin rise as high as the Senate. True terror is knowing that a president who rules largely by executive decree agrees that despite gargantuan waste and a $16.5 trillion debt, there is no reason to slow the explosive growth of government because “we don’t have a spending problem”:

This preposterous meme has been repeated by top House Demorrhoids Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer. The message is clear: we are taking the economy off the cliff and there is nothing you can do about it.

On a tip from Bob.

Consider that between 2003 and the present, United States tax revenue has not declined once. In fact, it went from $1.8 trillion in 2003 to an estimated $2.4 trillion at present, an increase of $0.6 trillion or about 33%.

During the same time period, the annual deficit went from $0.31 trillion in 2003 down to $0.16 trillion in 2007. From there it rose to $1.4 trillion in 2009 and after the fiscal cliff circus went to $1.3 trillion at present.

During this time frame, US GDP went from $11 trillion in 2003 to $14 trillion in 2008, and has not risen significantly since. An increase of about 27%. Note that government revenues have risen faster than GDP.

What’s the missing link? Spending. During this entire time frame, spending has not gone down one cent. In fact, even in the periods where you see the deficit declining, it is only because the increase in revenue temporarily outstripped the increase in spending.

Let me repeat that. Net spending has not fallen by a single cent in any year during the time frame covered. In fact, net spending has not been cut once since 1953, where it went from $76 billion to $70 billion.

Between 2003 and present, spending rose from $2.1 trillion to $3.8 trillion, an increase of 81%. It is projected to rise to $4 trillion by 2017, with any projected deficit reductions consisting of wishing for a sudden spike in revenue.

But please, lefties, explain how spending is not the problem here.

We don’t have a spending problem. We have a communist, muslim, president problem. That’s the reason for his treason.

Well, they obviously don’t have a spending problem, actually they’re remarkably good at it.

  • Huh.

“please, lefties, explain how spending is not the problem here.”

Um… ok… start with W spending $3trillion (or more) on a pointless war in Iraq. What would our budget numbers look like if the GOP didn’t start unfunded war(s)?

Name one time in US history – that doesn’t involve W – where we went to war and taxes didn’t go up. (Answer: never once. Ever.) Huh. A fact. (Did it hurt?)

Wow. I just saved $3 trillion. Imagine that.

The facts, now – i know they aren’t popular among the likes of you, but still – federal spending has decreased each year Obama has been in office. Decreased. I’ll say that one more time – decreased. Still a deficit, but a decreasing amount each and every year.

Now, it is also true that there have been many more people enrolled in food stamps and the like. Don’t you wish someone with some foresight had regulated the banks before the disastrous recession screwed the economy for everyone? (Of course not – deregulate everything! All government baaaad! Riiiight).

At what point do you actually stop a minute and think about what would actually help America? Should we, for example, make it so Mitt Romney has to pay at least as much as I do in taxes? Could taht revenue be used to close the budget gap you are all so concerned about? (Yes.) Would that be good for America at large, even if His Mittness has to wait one extra pay period to install another car elevator in his 11th house? (Yes.)

You don’t get how you look insane when you decry all debt/deficit as a bad thing, then stand up and bray that nobody who makes a billion dollars should have to pay the same taxes – at least – of someone who makes $150k? I call bullcrap on that.

    Your post makes no sense.

“KHarn must have lots of clouds of pot smoke and other hallucinogenic drugs in them.”

Not true. Care to explane your personal attack?

“I think that about sums up the planetary conditions of the origin of the libtard.”

What? Are you attacking the “litards” now? Does your accuseing ME of drug use account for libtards mind-set?

Come back when you sober up.

From what I understand the Obama administration claims that they spend less only by fudging the numbers. The first year of Obama’s presidency he raised spending with the “stimulus” and money for TARP which Bush wasn’t going to spend and this level of spending has been a part of baseline spending every year since – but, Obama fudges his astronomical spending record by disavowing the huge increase as something that happened on Bush’s watch.
