With his ham-fistedly prolonged reign as NYC Mayor finally ending this year, Michael Bloomberg can focus on extending his jihad against individual liberty nationwide — as he did in the special election to replace disgraced basket case Jesse Jackson Jr. in Chicago’s crappy South Side slums by bankrolling an avidly anti-freedom candidate:
Robin Kelly, a former Illinois state senator and Manhattan native, triumphed in a 15-candidate Democratic special primary, boosted by a huge outlay for TV advertising from Bloomberg’s Independence USA.
The Democrat primary is the real election in single-party Chicago. The actual election, with Republicans on the ticket, is only a formality.
The purpose of the Orwellian Independence USA is to further weaken the independence of individuals by attacking the Second Amendment.
Bloomberg’s Super PAC had spent $2.2 million on the race as of last week, more than the total sum raised by all 15 candidates. The billionaire mayor’s political outfit began by attacking candidate Debbie Halvorson, a former congresswoman who was the preferred candidate of the National Rifle Association. Her name recognition had made her the initial front-runner in the race…
But Bloomberg’s cash provided for an unrelenting assault. She wilted under the barrage, and her weakness as a poorly funded candidate prevented her counterattacks from having any real effect.
In the last two weeks, the Bloomberg ads bashed her but also helped build up Kelly’s candidacy.
Money is the mother’s milk of politics — and oligarchical collectivists have plenty of it. This is what Bloomberg bought with some of his:
The newly elected Democratic nominee to replace disgraced former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. vowed to become a leader in the fight for federal gun control and directly challenged the National Rifle Association in her victory speech. …
Kelly promised in her victory speech later Tuesday night to fight “until gun violence is no longer a nightly feature on the evening news” and directly addressed the NRA, saying “their days of holding our country hostage are coming to an end.”
This cartoonish rhetoric will not be spewed by anyone likely to live by their oath to defend the Constitution. Bloomberg purchased Kelly’s seat explicitly because she will not live by it.
Bloomberg called Kelly’s win an important victory for “common sense leadership” on gun violence, saying in a statement that voters nationwide are demanding change from their leaders.
Getting voters to demand further encroachment on their liberty requires brainwashing even beyond what the “mainstream” media provides. Bloomberg’s deep pockets are up to the job.
