Running a Coffee Shop Under Anarcho-Tyranny

As Benjamin Franklin famously observed, if you give up freedom for security, you end up with neither. For example, inmates of the authoritarian dystopia Michael Bloomberg has made of New York City are hyper-regulated right down to how many ounces of soda they can drink from a cup. In exchange for their liberty, this is the public order they receive:

A violent homeless crowd is plaguing a popular Chelsea coffee shop — repeatedly attacking customers and each other with chairs and tables, the store’s management said.

Think Coffee manager Matt Fury told cops [Wednesday] that he’s concerned with a lack of police response to his company’s 8th Avenue location, near 14h Street, where 911 calls are constant.

“One [homeless person] has thrown a chair once, one has hit someone, one has thrown a table,” Fury, 40, told NYPD brass [Wednesday] at a Sixth Precinct community meeting.

The manager said sometimes, when he called police, NYPD either didn’t respond or officers at the scene didn’t “take the matter seriously.”

The manager reports in a fury that

“One time the police officer said he would arrest me if I didn’t stop bothering him.”

On what charge? Why not felony reckless endangerment? Ask John Hockenjos for details.

Emergency 911 calls from Think Coffee have gone unanswered at least 19 times. The extravagant taxes New Yorkers pay are for redistribution to those who vote for a living, not for providing the safety required to conduct business.

    @ Doug—still laughing!

And much funnier than what I was going to say. I won’t even bother now.

  4. Vic Kelley says:

IF there are any good, decent people in NY they should leave. They don’t belong there. They aren’t wanted you can tell by the way the city is run.

I wonder if things were any better when the Italian mafia families “ran” NY.

When they come back, shoot through the door.

No matter how much you vociferate that “Buh… buh… But I am with the 99%!” as a business, the brownshirts will have their Kristallnacht.

  8. Xavier says:

I’m going out on a limb and predicting Bloomberg’s next eco-tyranny will take the form of banning household batteries. Everyone in NY will be required to switch to rechargeables for all standard sizes. Solar rechargers will be subsidized and there will be an extra tax on plugin (AC) rechargers.

I’d bet he’s trying to figure a way to regulate human and pet methane production too.

Course, I’ve been wrong before. A lot. Well, truth be told, I haven’t been right yet. So I figure I’m due for a lucky break.

  9. Doug says:

Xavier, my prediction is the Reichsmarshall Bloomberg will follow that shining light on the hill, San Fran Freakshow and mandate all homeless use the sidewalk as their personal latrine..

  10. Dr. 9 says:

If the NYPD is not responding to this location it’s probably because they sell french fries, donuts, potato chips, cigarettes, or large sodas. This is what life has become in the land ruled by queen Bloomberg, and richly deserved by his socialist supporters in Manhattan.

    Vic Kelley,

As a descendant of “colorful Italian” culture, I can attest that YES the city was run better by “Colorful Italians” with interesting nick-names.

The neighborhoods they ran were spotless. Do you think for once second Carlo Gambino would tolerate lowlives hurting business that he was surely a silent partner in?

The police were kept in check – on the take, but kept in check and neither side would tolerate this stuff.

NY is run by the Union Mob now, the difference being, no laws, no concern, no style and no one to answer to.

I humbly suggest a BEST EVER OF MOONBATTERY section. First entry to be nominated would be Doug’s above post.

    HAHAHA!!!

Seriously, this might make for a very funny section.

I’d also love to see Moonbat and Antimoonbat of the Year Awards like they have on Jihadwatch.

BloomBORG is definitely leading this year’s large field of extremely qualified contestants.

As far as NYPD, the coffee shops’s experiences kind of match my own, particularly as pertaining to noise and nuisance complaints.

They even get nasty and hang up the phone when you follow up on a call.

  15. justme says:

    Xavier,

The rechargeable battery thing is plausible. They are completely inefficient, don’t hold a charge, are made with toxic chemicals and cannot be depended on. The perfect “Green” solution.

  17. justme says:

    Ummah Gummah,

They steadfastly REFUSED to investigate a break in to my home caught on video and by someone who left me a hand written threat. They refused to even look at surveillance video of my car being robbed, would not even come when I called to report three juvenile delinquents roaming the neighborhood with bolt cutters hidden in their backpacks who are responsible for numerous thefts.

I was however dutifully written a $150 ticket for not wearing a seatbelt, issued a summons for stopping at a stop sign – and even called a White Motherf***ker and given a summons for walking a leashed dog.

  18. justme says:

Oh.. and threatened to “be taken out of my car and beaten” by one particularly courteous “officer” for the perceived offense of driving a nicer car than him and having the right of way to make a turn.

  19. Ummah Gummah says:

    @justme

Do you still live there? I recommend you get out before the next mayor comes in. I know this may sound preposterous, but it’s gonna get a lot worse.

As for the rechargeables, I bought a whole bunch of them on ebay from a guy in China. They work like a charm and hold their charges very well.

I didn’t buy them to be “green”, but because I was tired of constantly buying batteries for my cameras. Saving loads of money using these.

The even hold their own inside a flash unit, which gives batteries a real beating.

That reminds me I should stock up. These are Duracell Double and Triple-A’s I am talking about. I have no complaints at all.

    .

  21. justme says:

    Ummah,

I tried them too, but they are no good for remote controls, the charges don’t hold very long at all. I tried different brand in my cameras and remotes, not good for very long.

Yes, I still live in the hellhole and am well aware of how much worse it is about to get.

I live next to a welfare family that lives in a $1million dollar home – the bank pays the taxes, they cashed out $650,000 in home equity and spent it,now they get WELFARE, MEDICAID, FOODSTAMPS, SOCIAL SECURITY, ACCESS A RIDE,and there son deals drug out of a shared driveway, accepting stolen bicycles as payment- THE POLICE DO NOTHING. I WANT THE SAME Bennies..

And living in russian mob central, everyone now has a Bentley, while I try to get help from Fanie MAe following the hurricane and will surely be denied.

Boys and Girls, when I tell you the insanity I witness daily I AM NOT EXAGGERATING.

I am dying to flee this toilet but have an elderly parent who still lives here.

  22. bruce says:

i am not surprised at the demise of nyc under mayor rosenberg and you should try to move before urban maggots freak out when the welfare checks bounce.

  23. Mr Evilwrench says:

I keep a good lot of alkalines for things that need shelf life, like flashlights, and although remotes are really easy on batteries, your rechargeables will self discharge. Not as much as they used to, but you can’t expect much if you store them charged. Get the NiMH cells; you can get a whole box of generic ones on ebay for about $1 each, their capacity in mAH rivals alkalines now, and you can use them hundreds of times. I have my son’s XBox controllers on those, and it’s nice not having him come around for batteries every few days.

    ___________

    Tyrannical government hate competition.

Actually one form of tyranny conditioned the people to accept the next (and then the next). Colorful Italian gentlemen kept everyone in line. The average person didn’t have to worry much as long as they kept their heads down and stayed out of trouble. Businessmen, however, knew that they were going to be shaken down periodically….the price of doing business in the big city.
Not much has changed…businesses are still getting shaken down, people still have to keep their heads down. Service is worse, but what else would you expect from a tyrannical government?
