Bronze Star for Dhimmitude

Even a military presided over by moonbats acknowledges its heroes. They just aren’t heroes in the outmoded Sergeant York fashion.

Lt. Col. Jon Trainer received the prestigious Bronze Star — a medal given for heroic or meritorious achievement in connection with operations against an armed enemy.

Here’s how he earned the award:

Trainer developed a PowerPoint presentation on the proper handling and disposal of Islamic religious material that was seen by every American — military and civilian alike — in Afghanistan. The presentation then was distributed to the U.S. for use in all pre-deployment training.

When US troops burned some Korans that terrorists had been using to write messages to each other, it was seized upon as a pretext to riot. The heroic Lt. Col. Trainer has ensured that this can never happen again.

Trainer, a Westerville [Ohio] resident and nondenominational Christian pastor who’s been chaplain of the local 251st Cyber Engineering Installation Group since 2000, also sought to prevent any future problems by covering what constitutes Islamic religious material in the first place.

“When a Muslim writes down even a few verses from the Quran on a piece of paper,” he explained, “that immediately gets that same protected status.”

That is, whenever incarcerated terrorists want to share info on upcoming attacks, all they have to do is scribble “Allahu Akbar” in the corner and their notes will be treated as sacred texts by the US military.

Any questions on why the war in Afghanistan drags on senselessly with no hope of victory?

I wonder if the Lt. Col gets to wear his patch with the Cross on it when he meets with his muslim prisoners

  2. Flu-Bird says:

Will the habitiual whinners from CAIR demand his medal be stripped from him for offending them?

  3. whotothewhat says:

Well no surprise here. These are the same useful idiot government lapdogs we might be forced to fight against someday.

It’s not very surprising to see that the hideous and corrosive virus known as political correctness has found it’s way into our military, as it has made it’s way into the rest of our society. It has always been a goal of the Left to water down and weaken our military. Opening the military to gays was just one way of doing that. Requiring our warriors to fight by some idiotic and insane set of rules, (rules of engagement) is yet another. And now, rewards for doing, nothing.

The Bronze Star given to this Col. is a slap-in-the-face and an insult to every member of our military who ever served in combat.

Most days I read an article on Moonbattery, and my immediate reaction is “Naaaa; that can’t be true. We just can’t be that dumb.” And yet it is true; and we are that dumb.

I just can’t see that we are accomplishing any useful purpose in Afghanistan. We aren’t winning over the hearts and minds of new folks. Afghans still want to kill us. Muslims, once we leave, will demand their women stop attending school.

Our military is best at breaking stuff, killing the enemy, and then leaving. We are at our worst when we are trying to not hurt peoples’ feelings.

According to Allen West, this story is incorrect and Trainer’s had a long, storied career. Also accorinding to Allen West… well, here, I’ll just paste Col. West’s comments:

To the National Review Online: This Wrong Needs to be Righted!
    By Allen West

This Chaplain (COL) served as my Battalion Chaplain when I was a Battalion Executive Officer. He has asked me to right this wrong. I want everyone to know this email was sent to me by someone I served with and completely trust, and no one should defame our warriors for an agenda. Here is the email in its entirety:

    Gunslinger 5,

The National Review Online is running an article about CH (LTC) Jon Trainer implying that he received the Bronze Star for creating a PowerPoint presentation. This is false! I served with Jon Trainer in Kabul, Afghanistan and he is one of the finest men and chaplains I have ever worked with in almost 22 years. He received the Bronze Star for his cumulative meritorious service during his overall deployment to the combat zone. He did primarily produce the slide presentation per General Allen’s direction to do so. For the NRO to demean his months of faithful service and paint it like this is horrible. The author, Pat Brennan, has been notified that he is conveying a misinterpretation and told Jon “thanks for your service,” but this article speaks to a cause…. No apology, he’s content to run with a lie to pursue his agenda. Jonah Goldberg was tweeting the same fallacy today. A woman named Debbie Schlussel wrote a horrible trash piece propagating the same lie. No one called Jon to check the facts! Is this what conservative journalism amounts to? Ironically, Jon is very conservative and a fan of NRO and the blog that now is propagating a false and slanderous depiction of him.

I write for two reasons: 1) if you know any of these folks from your time in DC, I ask you as a personal favor to ask them to retract the article. They are demeaning a true Patriot who has every right to be proud of his service to our country! 2) As a charge that now that you are more and more a voice in the media, stick to the truth. No agenda that needs lies and misinterpretations to advance is worthy. Good journalism must be true journalism. I have no reason to doubt you at all, but I bet Brennan, Schlussel and Goldberg never got into their line of work with the desire to belittle the honorable service of a veteran for their own gain. The ability to do this to someone comes along slowly cloaked in rationalization and I never want you to stoop to this. You have so much more to offer!

Thanks for reading this! I will personally appreciate any help you can offer, even if it is your prayers for a good officer and a brother in Christ!

    Be Bold!
    God bless,
    Gunslinger Chaplain

Suppose someone told you that Demoncrats only use the “poor” as political props, and don’t care about them? Well, if you’re a savvy watcher of politics, you would say that’s true, and you would be right. But what if someone told you that it’s the Demoncrats of the Left, (not) republicans of the Right, that are doing everything they can to keep the so-called poor from legally owning a gun for self defense?

I’ll believe this is useful when the Bible is given the same respect by islamic soldiers.

My Farther earned his with oak leave cluster the old way
    though blood sweat and tears.

Nobody ever goes into combat to be a hero. Some just are
    chosen by fate that day.

Hope this Lt. Col will right the wrong of a misgiven Medal.

  10. MarkInKansas says:

My money is on Lt. Col Allan Wests’s representation of this man and his worthiness to be awarded the Bronze Star.

  11. BoJangles says:

It represents a “combat related” heroic act, and should (never) be awarded to anyone for any other reason.

  12. Duke says:

Actually, Bo, the Bronze Star Medal is awarded for either meritorious service or heroism. I have a Bronze Star from my service in RVN, earned on 9/27/67. I got my first Purple Heart the same day, and two of my friends were blown to pieces only a few feet away from me. My medal has a “V” on it to indicate an award for heroism.

There were any number of admin types in my unit who, like Col. Trainer, were awarded Bronze Star Medals without the “V” device to indicate their extraordinary and meritorious service. If Col. Trainer’s service rises to the appropriate level I think he should be recognized for his service.

All that said, I HAVE noticed that an officer may be awarded a Bronze Star, while an enlisted would be awarded a Navy Commendation Medal. Just sayin’.

This story doesn’t pass the smell test either. There has been a lot of crap posted on this site recently. It has become like “The Blaze Jr.”, with misleading headlines and liberal style hit pieces. Sean Hannity would be proud.

When I found this site several months ago, I don’t think there were any stories that weren’t true. These days, more and more, I can’t trust what I read here, and I’m sorry for it. I hate feeling manipulated with stories taken out of context or filled with half truths. That crap I got plenty of by the MSM.

I’d like to see this place hold itself to higher standards, and not sink to the level of the left.

  14. icecream says:

A lot of real heroes never get this honor.

  15. So. The article is true but misleading? The chaplain Did create a powerpoint show, typical work for staff officers of his rank, even for chaplains. And staff officers do typically get Bronze stars for service in combat zones, mostly when no combat is required.

I don’t even see anything misleading here. The only thing demeaning is the colonel demanding a retracion of what is essentially the truth about inflation of combat medals. Every staff officer leaves at the end of his tour with some sort of going away present and a citation for his “extraordinary service”. But if all those people were really doing extraordinary work, then why are we still there?

  16. Ummah Gummah says:

    .

The fact remains that a policy exists within the military which basically reduces our troops to dhimmi status. This policy was surely not developed by the military on its own accord. It is clear that this is the work of LIEberal loons.

However, one would hope that people would do more than “just follow orders” when they are given commands that they know are plain wrong and will cost the lives of their fellow soldiers.

A presentation such as this falls into that category, imho.

I wonder how far they can ultimately push the military before enough of them say “Enough is Enough”.

What a fierce warrior. We could have used this super commando on the beaches at Normandy.

  18. Duke says:

In 26 years of military service in a number of different areas of operation, I had to endure a sit-down class dealing with the customs and beliefs of the indigenous people in the country where we were operating. This served two purposes: 1. To better understand the motivations and actions of the potential enemy, and to be able to identify abnormal behavior and; 2. To respect the beliefs and customs of the people who were not to be considered the enemy. We are always guests in someone else’s country, and we need to keep the people allied with us as our allies.

We aren’t Russian pigs! [Ever wonder if the Ruskies have Chaplains; ever wonder why they don't?]

  19. IslandLifer says:

What a crock of bullshit. What a weak and pathetic military we have. Stop the PC madness!!

  20. KHarn says:

Muslims learn to destroy our culture; we learn how NOT TO OFFEND them.

I don’t give a damn what he got that piece of metal for, muslims respect COURAGE AND STRIENGTH, not KINDNESS. Kill their men, destroy their homes and drive their women into the wilderness. Then and only then will we have peace.

  21. IslandLifer says:

Allen West’s plea is completely irrelevant. So what? He may be a good person but it doesn’t excuse his actions. If you base your decisions on a plea from one man…you need to do some soul searching.

  22. Professor Hale says:

The Russians DO have chaplains. They are entirely privately supported and do not wear uniforms. It’s sad that we have to look to them for lessons on the right way to do things.

  23. 88miker says:

When you get an award for any reason, you have a section in the paperwork for reasons why the person got the award. Yes the LTC did have the Powerpoint as part of the reason. Other reasons were creating suicide prevention programs for the army. Also, most officers at his rank usually get a fancy award when they get back from deployment. To restate the point: The Chaplain didn’t get a bronze star JUST because of his sensitivity powerpoint.
