Separated at Birth?

You can’t blame Democrat Governor Beverly Perdue for wanting to suspend elections. Not only do Dems stand to lose a few House seats in her state in 2012, but North Carolina voters are sure to wise up eventually and throw Bev out on her can. She shouldn’t worry about employment prospects though, not even in Obama’s economy. She can always get work as a stunt double for the lovely actress who played Bride of Chucky:

    Separated?

  2. John says:

Perdue’s only fault is that she got her timing wrong. You’re supposed to burn down the Reichstag first, THEN suspend the constitution…

  3. Sgt Brock E Lee says:

Wait wasn’t Chucky’s bride Jennifer Tilly? She was hot in a weird sort of way, The Chicken Lady, NOT

  4. Sgt Brock E Lee says:

I’m just glad I’m not a Jewish Janitor

  5. lao's flat rotting colon says:

It was just a joke, as her spokesman made clear as soon as the statement got it and was embarrassing to her. Also, Bride of Chucky isn’t even a real person; it’s a movie you stupid wingnuts. And it’s not an actress, it’s a doll. And where’s my damn Hot Pockets, ma?

  6. SPURWING PLOVER says:

Darn two totaly evil creatures steight from the bowels of WASHINGTON D.C.(DISTRICT of CRINIMALS)

  7. Fcastle says:

I’m from NC. I actually voted for her. Not because I like her, but b/c our state Republicans actually put up a candidate who got a lower score from the NRA then she did, so I went for the lesser of 2 gun grabbers. Sad that my state GOP couldn’t give me a better option.

  8. lao says:

The word “joke” has been seized on by the far right who then proceed to whine that nobody laughed. The word actually used was “hyperbole”.

“Come on…Gov. Perdue was obviously using hyperbole to highlight what we can all agree is a serious problem: Washington politicians who focus on their own election instead of what’s best for the people they serve,” said Perdue spokesman Mark Johnson.

Here’s a definition: Hyperbole is the use of exaggeration as a rhetorical device or figure of speech. It may be used to evoke strong feelings or to create a strong impression, but is not meant to be taken literally.

Needless to say, moonbattery’s parrots have taken her statement literally.

  9. oferphuxake says:

I was going to put together a “totally looks like” featuring Hannibal Lecter and a different shot of this moonbat – you know, the one where she’s reaching out to the camera? It’s times like this I’m glad I rarely dream, because I can imagine this creatures gnarled, harpy claws breaking through the graveyard soil.

    I’ll stop there.

  10. Jay B. says:

Nice to see you again Lao, you’ve got your talking points already?

  11. Bev Perdue says:

Who is with me on my clearly hyperbolic statement that in no way at all reflects my actual philosophy? Can I get some support on my clearly hyperbolic statement that in no way at all reflects my actual philosophy?”

  12. PartyofNone says:

    Judge for yourself

She spends an awful lot of time to set up this “hyperbole,” delivers it without a hint of humor or irony, and continues on to further illustrate her point about the benefits of suspending Congressional elections.

Only the most brainwashed sycophant could defend Purdue here. QED, here’s lao defending it.

Quiz time: Bachmann delivers the exact same statement and lao says…

  13. oferphuxake says:

“Needless to say, moonbattery’s parrots have taken her statement as it was offered – not as a joke.”

    FTFY

  14. GoY says:

lao is a little behind on his talking points. The new spin is sarcasm.

Three excuses in two days. Not bad.

  15. lao says:

Quiz time: Bachmann delivers the exact same statement and lao says…

The difference would be that the Republicans hold a 50 seat majority in the house. In addition, Perdue is not running for President.

What’s the rationale for a Democrat to recommend suspending elections when the Republicans hold a 50 seat majority?

  16. anarchocapitalist says:

“She can always get work as a stunt double for the lovely actress who played Bride of Chucky:”

Never, ever confuse this harpie with Jennifer Tilly…
the doll in the movie, maybe, but NEVER Jennifer Tilly

  17. GoY says:

But Rush Limbaugh playing “Barack the Magic Negro” is irrefutable proof that he’s a racist.

  18. PartyofNone says:

And Democrats hold a majority in the Senate.

So, again, Bachmann delivers the exact same statement and lao says…

  19. FrankW says:

So based on the fact that she continually sticks her foot in her mouth can we claim she is a moron now? After all Booosh said a few less than well-thought out things and he was automatically the village idiot.
This is an opinion, not a well researched one either. She says a lot of unconsidered things in her history, in my experience most people with a habit of doing that do not formulate “hyperbole”, sarcasm or any other clever response. They generally are saying what they believe to be true. To this end I believe she meant what she said, said it without thinking, but to give the slightest bit of credit to her, I believe she meant well. I think she was trying to explain why the Congresscritters (on both sides, in both houses) tend to vote to preserve their seat instead of doing what is right (as a pol she does not get that doing what is right will keep the seat for you). If the pressure (and distraction) of elections were removed she thinks they could focus better. She is more full of crap than a Christmas goose, but like all libs she thinks she means well (and to libs that is enough) and has not fully considered consequences. Now she has to backtrack to give herself PC cover.

  20. lao says:

If you want to try a logical comparison, pick an obscure Republican governor hardly anyone has heard of saying the same thing.

    My answer? “Yawn!”

  21. FrankW says:

What’s the rationale for a Democrat to recommend suspending elections when the Republicans hold a 50 seat majority?
    She is a moron?
    See my last post.

  22. Cameraman says:

This Bitch need to be Impeached and charge with Sedition
    and Put in Jail..NO JOKE!

  23. GoY says:

Her theory is that even a Republican politician is a politician above everything else, and if politicians could vote their preferences without having to answer to the voters, they would vote in the policies that liberals want: higher taxes and bigger government.

It’s quite clear from the context of the statement.

  24. PartyofNone says:

Riiiiight…no way would you jump at the chance to highlight idiocy from even an “obscure” Republican, regardless of office. No, not you, brainwashed sycophant. Hell, that must be why you have to defend this “obscure” governor at every turn, even if your talking points are old and discredited by the time you dribble them out. Sad life, good luck with it.

  25. lao says:

Or, as is the function of hyperbole, she never meant suspending elections to be taken seriously in the first place.

  26. GoY says:

The real irony is when you compare this statement to what Bev said when she vetoed a voter ID Law: “[The]right to choose our leaders is among the most precious freedoms we have — both as Americans and North Carolinians. North Carolinians who are eligible to vote have a constitutionally guaranteed right to cast their ballots, and no one should put up obstacles to citizens exercising that right.”

Maybe she was just being hyperbolic about that, too.

  27. lao says:

The right blogosphere goes ballistic over a statement they want to take at face value that, given the political reality of a 50 seat Republican majority, makes no sense whatsoever, and you claim I’m brainwashed?

    Thanks for the laughs.

  28. PartyofNone says:

A Democrat expresses her desire to suspend Congressional elections, and lao resorts to determining whether or not the composition of one branch of Congress allows the statement to be taken seriously or not. Yeah, brainwashed sycophant is a perfect description.

    Next excuse, chuckles?

  29. GoY says:

She’s not the only prominent Democrat to have expressed such sentiments. Peter Orszag recently wrote a piece in the New Republic that suggested stripping Congress of its ability to make fiscal policy and investing that power in unelected bureaucracies. Thomas Freidman famously mused how he would have the USA run like a Chinese autocracy. Barack Obama has decried American democracy as “messy” and also pined for the dictatorial powers of a Chinese autocrat.

She committed the classic definition of a political gaffe, she said what she really believes. No day after spin from her flunkies is going to change that.

  30. PartyofNone says:

“‘I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover,’ Perdue said at a rotary club event in Cary, N.C., according to the Raleigh News & Observer. ‘I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.‘”

Funny joke! Uh no…errrrr…hyperbole? No no no, sarcasm! I just hope she didn’t offend all those brainwashed sycophants who really did agree with her!

  31. Judith M. says:

And just exactly what does Bride of Chuckie think the right thing to do would be? If she’d answer that, I’ll bet you’d see the full extent of her detachment from reality.

  32. FrankW says:

As a Dem and a Lib she likely believes the right thing to do is to triple-down on stupidity.

  33. Lao Zedong says:

Maybe it has nothing to do with party Lao. It would still be wrong if a Republican said it with 100% of the house and senate seats being held by Republicans

  34. Turbo says:

Bwahahaha! Thanks, I needed that :D All she needs is a little goth lipstick!

  35. RICH says:

What’s the rationale for a Democrat to recommend suspending elections when the Republicans hold a 50 seat majority?

Because she’s reading tea leaves that the Republicans will gain even more seats in 2012. Her suggestion on the suspension of elections is irrational. Stupid even.
