Solar Panel Farm Makes Air Unbreathable
Great news for the polar bears. Apple Inc. is setting up a 170-acre solar panel farm in Maiden, North Carolina, no doubt with lavish government support. It’s not such great news for those living in the area; the burning of trees to make room for the panels has filled their homes with smoke:
Zelda Vosburgh said the inside of her house smells like smoke, and her dogs haven’t wanted to go outside anymore. A neighbor on the backside of Apple’s property said smoke and ash drift up there, and being outside for just a minute is enough for the smell to cling to you, making it difficult to breathe.
Why are they complaining? Don’t they care about the environment?

Creating cleaner air for the polar bears.
On a tip from Viking04.

Maiden, NC is on the northwest side of Charlotte.
Let’s see why this might be a bad idea:

Businessmen would have put the panels elsewhere, if they were economically justified at all:

As a bonus, forests don’t need to be burned clear in the Arizona desert.
Wasteful pandering from moonbatty Apple.
No matter how much the invisible hand of the free market tries to nudge these solar farms to the places which do the most good, enviromoonbats continue slapping it away.
The important thing is not how much power is actually produced, or where the cheapest land might be. Rather, the point is to place them near something so affluent liberals can feel good about themselves.
If a ton of carbon were offset in the woods, and nobody was around, could Al Gore still sell the credit?
Libtard Eco-terrorism at its finest! What could be more GREEN that burning down a forest? Good thing there weren’t any endangered species living there, in fact I bet NO animals were injured in the burning of this forest.
I hope Crapple gets this thing built and a GIANT hail storm or hurricane comes along and pummels it, poetic justice.
Meaningless moonbat efforts to stop globull warming are obviously working. There’s an October snowstorm on the way for the northeast.
How’d they do it so quickly? Not sure, but we should stop those efforts. I don’t want to head into the next ice age anytime soon.
Apple is one of the largest and most profitable companies in the world and is getting huge tax breaks for putting in the solar panels.Crony capitalism at its best.
If a tree burns in the forest and hippies cry, does anyone care?
Wait. What?
They’re burning the trees? Don’t they care about the environment at all?
Why don’t they harvest the trees and sell them? Oh, that’s right; that would be capitalism, and capitalism’s bad. I hate leftists.
interesting..
Now that god is dead we have to replace gods solar collectors with our solar collectors…
hmmmm….
I found where you got the picture. Third result from Google images of “pictures of trees burning”. Not from Maiden, North Carolina.
Keep in mind this will be build with approximately 80% government subsidies.
30% Federal Tax Credit.
35% State Tax Credit
~15% of it will be financed from the sale of SRECs to a utility.
I work in both the energy sector and North Carolina. Solar is completely unviable without insane subsidies. Think of what an 80% subsidy would do to any industry that was viable without it.
nonmoonbat:
And your point is?
Sounds like an ad hominem attack on Moonbattery.com rather than a cogent defense of Apple’s actions.
I’m with 762×51. I hope this gets ripped up by a hurricane. Mother nature takes revenge.
If you can’t argue the facts, attack the messenger.
I think that i shall never see a solar cell as pretty as a tree…
Lets call it “The Arbor day massacre” that didnt happen on arbor day… in the future will we have solar cell day?
I think people who are angry at apple have their anger misplaced. Apple is just trying to make a buck and the insane amount of subsidies given to solar in North Carolina makes it easy especially if you are a profitable company. I would do the same if I had a company in North Carolina with large profits just because I would want to make more money.
Apple panders to hipster moonbats. We’ve also seen the same behavior out of Google and its energy projects. It’s all about being “cool” enough for liberal twentysomethings to overlook the fact that these are huge international corporations, and all of the uncool and distrust which goes along with that.
If Apple truly cared about solar energy production, then they would have done this in the southwest, rather than burning up a forest to misplace panels in an area with below average insolation. Free market economics would have pushed this installation to a place where it does the most good. Apple chose to dabble in feel good environmentalism and write off the energy not produced as an advertising/PR expense.
We saw the same principle in action when John Kerry wanted his me-too solar pork project in Massachusetts, a state not known for heavy sun year round. Other Congresscritters have tried the same.
The insane subsidies are responsible for my house being a net provider of energy to the grid. Without the subsidies, I would have waited. I’m in Florida, with favorable insolation.
Then again, I was primarily betting on higher energy prices and against the US dollar.
Leave it to a liberal to f*ck things up. Everything they touch turns to instant crap. Everything.
They’re using bicycles to power those wood chippers, right?
“EnergyEngineer says:October 28, 2011 at 6:57 pm”
MOONBATTERY PUZZLE PAGE!
How many points in the artical did this SHMUCK miss?
Ironic, isn’t it ?
That liberalism supports this manner of destruction in the building of it’s monuments to itself.
Reminds me of those hideous bird choppers
They better get use to burning wood if they think they can depend on solar for warming their houses.
And these idiots who decided to burn the trees in the first place were too stupid to understand that unseasoned or “green” wood creates a lot of smoke. Anyone with a fireplace and/or has camped outdoors would know this fact.
How many subsidies were attained from the Fraudural Government to purchase the necessary carbon offsets before this release? I suspect that the process would have been more efficient if the paper money were just set afire at the Fed.
How would the treatment of this company be different if it weren’t Apple: But say, a for-profit lumber company? If this were a truly a “green” company, the balance of the biomass would be required to be disposed of more efficiently: By having it collected and processed through a local coal-fired power plant. Then, the processing would have at least attempted to capture the biomass energy content; At least, the particulate effluent would have been contained, such that the neighbors wouldn’t have had to be choked by the fumes of inefficient combustion.
Sustainability I’m still waiting for the appearance of a solar powered solar cell manufacturing plant. And also, a wind-powered wind-turbine manufacturing plant. With diodes that prevent the inward transfer of energy from the exterior grid, to the boundary of the plant. Only after these are clearly demonstrated, shall I be convinced of the viabilities of these as valid energy sources. The fines for violating the laws of man are escapable. That’s the hall mark of crony socialism. The fines for attempting violation of the inviolable laws of nature: (ie: The 1st and 2nd laws of Thermodynamics): The laws of nature’s God, are inescapable.
You forgot to mention the burning was stopped because a complaint was made. If Apple want to use solar to cut cost on their cloud computing building then what the big deal. Im sure they were subsidized but not as much as mentioned above. Generally the purchase of solar gets about a dollar per watt subsidy from power company serving that area. If that isn’t correct I am sure a link will be provided with the correct info.
carbon footprint anyone?

That’s freaking lazy (and wasteful)! Why couldn’t they CUT the trees down?
