Gun-Grabbers Attack Lead Supply Through EPA

You almost have to admire their termite-like tenacity. Remember when Nasty Pelosi said this about destroying the health insurance industry?

“You go through the gate. If the gate’s closed, you go over the fence. If the fence is too high, we’ll pole vault in. If that doesn’t work, we’ll parachute in. But we’re going to get health care reform passed for the American people.”

The same by-whatever-means approach applies to denying us our crucial right of self-defense. When exploiting Newtown to impose direct gun bans failed in most parts of the country, they went back to more devious means of achieving the same ends. Like this:

In December, the final primary lead smelter in the United States will close. The lead smelter, located in Herculaneum, Missouri, and owned and operated by the Doe Run Company, has existed in the same location since 1892.

The Herculaneum smelter is currently the only smelter in the United States which can produce lead bullion from raw lead ore that is mined nearby in Missouri’s extensive lead deposits, giving the smelter its “primary” designation. The lead bullion produced in Herculaneum is then sold to lead product producers, including ammunition manufactures for use in conventional ammunition components such as projectiles, projectile cores, and primers. …

Doe Run made significant efforts to reduce lead emissions from the smelter, but in 2008 the federal Environmental Protection Agency issued new National Ambient Air Quality Standards for lead that were 10 times tighter than the previous standard. Given the new lead air quality standard, Doe Run made the decision to close the Herculaneum smelter.

It would be hard to imagine a better example of the Obama Regime’s use of the EPA to impose backdoor tyranny. We would let you have guns, but you see lead causes air pollution.

If you think ammo prices are high now, wait until they close the smelter.

[A]fter the Herculaneum smelter closes its doors in December, entirely domestic manufacture of conventional ammunition, from raw ore to finished cartridge, will be impossible.

The national security implications of severely curtailing our ability to produce our own ammunition are obvious. But to our current rulers, national security means something very different from what it did in the past. The idea is no longer to defend America from foreign threats, but to impose the ultimate threat from within.

On a tip from Chris W. Hat tip: Guns Save Lives.

Maybe this explains why the govt. has been buying Billions of rounds of ammo. They obviously knew they were going to shut down this company and lead would be all-but impossible to come by.

As i’ve said many times, the Left now knows their generations-old frontal assault on the 2nd Amendment has failed. But that doesn’t mean they have any intention of giving up their goal of a “totally gun-free” America. Not gun control, but an all-out, UK-style ban on (all) firearms. NYC’s queen Bloomberg, the nations #1 anti-gun zealot, actually said that during an interview with a small NY radio station last summer. Perhaps he felt with the Left in complete control of the country, he can finally be honest.

Their attacks on the 2nd Amendment will not stop. They will simply change tactics. Taxes and fees for (anything and everything) related to firearms will keep increasing. We all know how the govt. will always find a way to force us to submit, either with laws or with taxes and fees. We (must) show them that our will is greater than theirs.

  • Not making it here does not make anything “all but impossible to come by”. Especially not for something as common as lead. Heck, the Chinese are still putting it in paint just because they don’t know they don’t need to.

And if you come down to it, there are plenty of other things you can make bullets out of.

The eco-nazis strike agai its to to have the Imperial EPA totaly abolished

  • Artfldgr

and if a war starts, they wont be able to ramp up and act in time… oops…

  • KHarn

This not only affects bullets, but also solder, counter weights, fishing sinkers, etc..

The mountain folk sometimes used pewter for bullets. Save your aluminum cans and .22 rimfire cases gang, and melt your own.

  • dan

    ah….silver bullets if only because
tungstun ans depleted uranium don’t kill zombires, moonbats or vampires

“The mountain folk sometimes used pewter for bullets. Save your aluminum cans and .22 rimfire cases gang, and melt your own.”

Or we could just overthrow this totalitarian Marxist government and re-institute the Constitution.

Clean up America, kill a Communist.

Recenty one of Mexifornias big sewer news papers ran a front page article about lead bullets and condors tipcle lies from these lying journalists reptiles

  • Clingtomyguns

Next the DOJ will look to sue gun and bullet makers because blacks are more likely than whites to get internal lead poisoning from bullets.

  • I posted this story last week and Dr. 9 is spot on about the gubbermint buying up all the ammo through various agencies.

The gov’t does not have any real idea how much ammo the gun folks have. The SHTF will happen. Maybe not in my lifetime but it will.

  • maybe thats why they bought billions of rounds now…

  • Gary Benson

This is a national security issue and they should NOT close that plant.

  • Son of Taz

Can hope the plant will only be moth-balled until a new and law-abiding President is elected?

  • jarhead

This was done so reloaders have no way to make bullets but, there still is a lot of lead out there, time to buy it all up!

  • days condor

So no car batteries made with lead?

  • Eric

Technically, lead is not the best substance for a bullet anyway. Most anything can be used effectively. A simple plastic (fiberglass) casing filled with water or milk is very effective, and can penetrate armor. Steel, Tin, hell a ground piece of granite will work. Salt can be molded into bullets, and if you use sea salt, it’s even poisonous. I wouldn’t worry too much about a lack of lead, it’s just a cheap method that has outlived its usefulness anyway.
