Like all things Chuck Schumer, the headline above grates on the nerves. From the accompanying story:
It’s time for retired veterans to face cuts as the federal government looks for ways to trim expenditures, Sen. Chuck Schumer said Monday. …
“They’re going to have to pay a tiny, little bit into it, which they never have,” he added.
No, veterans never have paid much into this country — unless you count blood, sweat, and tears.
But Schumer maintained members of Congress should not be forced to take a pay cut. He said they have already sacrificed, since they have not seen a pay raise “in a long time,” and explained most of them are paying more for healthcare insurance.
So are most of us — quite a bit more — thanks to Schumer and every other Democrat in the House and Senate who rammed ObamaCare down our throats, as well as Republicans who won’t do whatever it takes to defund the most maleficent bill in memory.
But Republicans don’t mind defunding a few vets, at least not among the Paul Ryan set.
At least veterans and everyone else are getting a valuable lesson: anything Big Government gives, Big Government can take away.
Graphic compliments of Bones.
