Global Warming Update: July 1936 Now Hottest Month, Great Lakes Rise

Since we have been told many times that we are on the verge of cataclysmic doom due to global warming, it is important to check in periodically to see how long we have left before civilization is destroyed. Fortunately it looks like we still have a little while.

Due to global warming, the hottest month on record is now… July 1936. NOAA did claim that July 2012 had surpassed it, but the bureaucrats went back and revised their data. Via Watts Up With That:

Two years ago during the scorching summer of 2012, July 1936 lost its place on the leaderboard and July 2012 became the hottest month on record in the United States. Now, as if by magic, and according to NOAA’s own data, July 1936 is now the hottest month on record again. The past, present, and future all seems to be “adjustable” in NOAA’s world.

Like they used to say in the Soviet Union: The future is certain; it’s the past that keeps changing.

Typically of oligarchical collectivist regimes, there was no public explanation for the change. We don’t really know what the real temperatures were. But we do know better than to take government data at face value.

The graphs below show the temperatures before and after the revision.

Now:

Astute readers will notice that the temperatures vacillate up and down, despite the steady massive increase in carbon emissions that characterized the industrialization of the 20th century. This alone disproves global warming theory.

Another potential consequence of global warming is that the Great Lakes will run dry:

[T]he National Wildlife Federation breathlessly warns readers, in a section entitled “Threats from Global Warming,” that “Lake Erie water levels, already below average, could drop 4-5 feet by the end of this century, significantly altering shoreline habitat.” A Thursday Huffington Post Canada Business entry observed that “the (Great Lakes) basin has experienced the longest extended period of lower water levels since the U.S. and Canada began tracking levels in 1918.” Of course, it’s because of “climate change.”

Friday, Julie Bosman at the New York Times reported (HT Powerline) that “The International Joint Commission, a group with members from the United States and Canada that advises on water resources, completed a five-year study in April 2013 concluding that water levels in the lakes were likely to drop even farther, in part because of the lack of precipitation in recent years brought on by climate change.” But the reason Bosman was on the story is because — fortunately for area residents, but unfortunately for “startled” global warming adherents claiming to be “scientists” — Great Lakes sea levels are rising again.

A Powerline reader wisely comments:

I live not far from Lake Huron, and I recall that water levels the last decade or so have been the lowest since the 1960s. Climate change is the all-purpose whipping boy, but that doesn’t explain why they were so low in the 60s. Cyclical issues seem to be the easier answer, but you don’t get as much grant money for cyclical issues.

Expect warmists to now claim that the raising lake levels are a dangerous symptom of global warming that could cause Chicago to be submerged within the decade if taxes aren’t raised precipitously.

That concludes the global warming update. Looks like we can go back to our lives now. Maybe global warming will start being real next year.

Uh oh, The Goracle must be running around like a madman in denial of this new phony science. I mean like 1936 was a long time ago, right? And what could they know of global climate science way way back then?

    Oops almost forgot,

As a kid I also remember the talk of water levels … Lake Ontario has been up and down so many times…it is just nature. These days in dry cycles it is not surprising that the lakes would be drawn down even further by ever growing municipalities that use millions of gallons a day !

Highest in More Than Century : Rising Great Lakes Levels Threaten Floods, Erosion
March 07, 1986|LARRY GREEN | Times Staff Writer

CHICAGO — Disaster preparations are under way across eight Midwestern states and one Canadian province as water levels in the Great Lakes, already the highest in more than a century, continue to rise, threatening flooding and shoreline erosion.
“It’s the worst we’ve ever seen,” said Donald J. Leonard, assistant engineering chief for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. “We’re establishing new records every month.”……………………Above-Average Rainfall

The high lake levels are the result of above-average rainfall in the upper Midwest for 15 of the last 18 years, according to Great Lakes Commission reports. Before that, in the mid-1960s, years of abnormally low rainfall caused the lakes to fall to worrisome levels.

CO2 [“carbon”] is steadily rising [the sawtooth in the graph below]:

    http://www.woodfortrees.org/plot/rss/from:1997/plot/rss/from:1997.9/trend/plot/esrl-co2/from:1997.9/normalise/offset:0.68/plot/esrl-co2/from:1997.9/normalise/offset:0.68/trend

But look at the global temperature trend since 1996. The planet is cooling, not warming! [That is satellite data — the most accurate kind.]

Thus, CO2 does not cause global warming. So, who should we believe?

    Planet Earth? Or B.H. Obama?

Because they cannot both be right.

Science is proving that the weight of all the ice on the land mass during the ice age pushed the land down compressing it. And that all the great lake region is still coming back up. Making the existing shore line higher, and giving a false water level reading. Mankind needs only to look at nature for answers. We arent big enough to destroy earth. Only ourselves

The only thing Obama got right was nothing. I pick the Earth.

When neoprogs ask me why I don’t worship at The Altar of Climate Change, I simply say 5 words:

    Al Gore Is A Politician
    Al Gore Is A Politician
    Al Gore Is A Politician
    Al Gore Is A Politician
    Al Gore Is A Politician

Shuts ’em down every time 🙂

While I agree with your sentiment the Comrade Chairman Obama should be removed from office, impeachment is NEVER going to happen. The ball-less RINO’s will never impeach him in the House and even if they did, the Senate, under ReichsMarshal Reid, would never convict him.

The Checks and Balances are gone from the system, Congress is a sham, filled with elected scum who say one thing to get elected then do the opposite once in office. The courts are so corrupt that they participate in taking children from their parents and turn them over to the state for medical experimentation, a la Justina Pelletier or do a contortionist act to bend the truth and rewrite laws making illegal law, legal a la Obamacare as a tax, etc. Government no only enforces laws that agree with, growing, selling and possessing marijuana is still illegal under federal law yet tons of it are being openly grown, sold and moked in Colorado. Meet me in Boulder, CO. and I’ll show you a grow house with a $70,000.00 PER MONTH electric bill to run their grow lights and CO2 pumps. Illegals are STREAMING across the Mexican border, many of them unaccompanied children in diapers who somehow, magically are able to cross the Sonora Desert , yet show up here and require 24/7 care, and the government does nothing to stop them.

Sorry my friend but counting on such a system to repair itself is a fools errand. The problem is not the system, it is the people who populate it and the problem exists in state and local governments from your school board up in every direction. The solution comes from the citizenry who must rise up and destroy the evil that has infected our system. Only then can the Constitution be restored. Some of us will fight and many will die. That is the price of freedom and the cost to defeat evil, always has been, always will be.
