Liberals Call for New Constitution

We will know we have reached the end game — the part where the Second Amendment needs to come into play — when liberals stop gradually eroding the Constitution and progress to tearing it to shreds so as to replace it with a new document that will explicitly reject individual liberty and affirm their malign ideology of race-based collectivist tyranny. According to some, that time is at hand:

The Vice Chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee urges us to heed moonbat college professors writing at Salon.com, who fantasize about inflicting a whole new constitution. They blame the recent decline of the nation not on the lunatic flower child ideology of the 1960s now being imposed by the establishment, nor on Obama’s catastrophic Affirmative Action presidency, but on the same Constitution that made the country great and held it together for over 2 centuries:

The most recent NBC/Wall Street Journal poll says that a clear-cut majority is disgusted with the present political scene and retains little hope that future generations will fare as well as we have. As candidates get down and dirty in the lead-up to midterm elections, 60 percent say the country is in a general state of decline. A mere 19 percent of those polled have a favorable opinion of Republicans in Congress; their Democratic colleagues (or “colleagues”) poll at 31 percent. But the most remarkable number is 79: that’s the percentage of the politicized public that presently voices its discontent with the entire American political system as constituted; and fully half of the respondents said “very dissatisfied.” […]

Though they haven’t articulated it as such, Americans want a new constitution that actually does what the original Constitution was supposed to do: serve the public good.

Or maybe we haven’t articulated our wish to replace the Constitution with the authoritarian leftist document the authors go on to describe at tedious length because we want the Constitution restored, not discarded.

Imagine living under a constitution written by the same people who imposed ObamaCare, at the urging of the sort of communist kooks who publish their malevolent screeds at Salon.com. At least the government would finally build that promised fence on the border. They would need it to keep us from escaping to Mexico.

    Let them have their paradise of sordid sex and mathematically impossible government handouts.

    The simple way to ‘restore’ the Constitution would be for Congress and WH to pass a law declaring the Preamble to the Constitution to be the guiding principles upon which the rest of the Constitution is supposed to follow. The Preamble was discarded by FDR and FDR Courts, later to be followed by the GOP’s crony crowd as the Preamble got in the way of their collective accumulation of power and influence over everyone and everything.

    The Preamble is like the basic instructions that come with a lawn mower. Sure, a lawn mower can be reconfigured into a device to trim hedges, and cut limbs off in the process. Ignoring the basic instructions and guidelines of use has it’s hazards — our current societal and gubermint’s moral and fiscal bankruptcy is ample example of how not following the simple Constitutional guidelines define in the Preamble works to corrupt at many levels…

    A simple law passed by two branches of the Government to state that the Preamble is to be followed would message the Judicial and Regulatory branches they needs to rethink their past, current and future direction.

    One might include provisions to sunset the accumulated decades of Preamble non-compliant laws and extra-generational entitlements, plus judicial and burrOcrat regulations and decisions in an predictable reasonable fashion.

    Mostly, it would be interesting to see this debated in Congress by those who have sworn to uphold the Constitution (by ignoring it’s guiding principles)… Clips of that debate would make fodder for many elections to come…

We must definitively declare that the Author of our temporal and eternal liberty is the One Who is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

It requires a 2/3 majority of both houses of congress or petitions from 2/3 of the states – that’s 34 states. A petition from the states requires that the agenda be limited to a single subject. Things would have to be pretty dire to convince the state legislatures to agree to anything. Not even slavery prompted a constitutional convention, and we have the Civil War to show for it.

    Any changes to the constitution requires ratification by 3/4 of the states and the concurrence of Congress.

    With the balance of power about 50/50 for the past few decades, it seems to me that an Article V convention is a pipe dream.

    Freedom of religion has been superceded by Freedom from religion, the second amendment only applies to “organized militia”, the fourth amendment has been replaced with “No expectation of privacy”, and we have more specially protected minority classes than you can shake a stick at, just to mention a few new “interpretations” to our new Living Constitution, subject to change depending on who is in power.

    Instead of passing a law that says we should follow the law, which is what the Constitution is, how about we repeal most of the laws passed in the last 50 years? That alone would restore enough freedom to last us another 100 – 200 years, assuming you drop all the liberals into an abandoned mine shaft.

    You solution of dividing the nation is the only real alternative we have left, however, it cannot be done without a civil war. Liberals are power mad miscreants whose natural instinct is to subjugate and control others to the Nth degree. Even IF a peaceful separation could be achieved where we divide the states up into Liberal v. Conservative control, eventually there would be a war because the liberal controlled states would run out of money to fund their welfare programs as has happened in EVERY Communist country EVER.
    There simply is no other way now than a straight up fight. Whether that entails “killing them all” or not, they must be DRIVEN from our lands or you will wind up with the same problems that exist today. You may as well accept it or you will live out your life as a slave to a totalitarian dictatorship. Unfortunately, so will your children.

    In 1983, 32 of the requisite 34 states had submitted applications for a convention. Only a massive, concerted effort by “constitution preservationists” groups, such as the John Birch Society and Eagle Forum stopped us from reaching 34, and got a dozen states to rescind their applications.

    Those same groups are all that is stopping it from happening now.

    The requirement that petitions for a convention must be on a single subject is not found in the Constitution. It is merely the position that Congress has traditionally taken. Since they are the ones who call a convention when 34 states have applied, they decide how to count the applications; 34 on one subject, or 34 total on any subject. They can abandon the “single-subject” view at any time if they so choose.

    And the ratification requirement of 3/4 of the states, although explicitly spelled out in the Constitution, could be abandoned by the convention, just as the convention of 1787 abandoned the explicit ratification requirements that were spelled out in the Constitution and in the convention calls from the states at that time.

    This pipe dream can quickly become a nightmare. Only vigilant opposition will keep it at bay.

    Good luck to them, they will need it. I have really good aim. Hopefully they can just resign themselves to working within the system. Some of the ideas put forth in the article aren’t terrible. I liked the part about removing the very concept of campaign financing. All candidates would have an even chance and it would eliminate the power political parties have over politicians. But HOW can we ever get crooked politicians to pass laws that would work against their current GREEDY interests? That may have to come at the barrel of a gun, but possibly not.

The only trouble is, when leftists make rules that reduce the power of political parties, they generally seem to mean for only one party to follow them, while they themselves will continue to do whatever best furthers their agenda. Always be suspicious when lawless people want to make new laws.
