News from the Great Britain — the canary in the coalmine of liberal do-gooder authoritarianism — can be frightening. Officials are actually confiscating children found not to meet bureaucrat-mandated body mass index requirements. At least such outrages would be unthinkable in the Land of the Free. Oh wait:
An Ohio third-grader who weighs more than 200 pounds has been taken from his family and placed into foster care after county social workers said his mother wasn’t doing enough to control his weight.
A 200-lb. third grader obviously has a serious medical issue. Who knows? Maybe the mother is somehow guilty of medical neglect. But where is the line below which endlessly prying bureaucrats won’t intervene? Is a 100-lb. third grader safe from confiscation? Is a 90-pounder? Is anyone?
We have reached the point where we can no longer control the extent of the government. This problem dwarfs every other one we face — especially phony problems created by the government to justify its own obesity.
