Obama Regulations Cost Americans $784 Million Each Day Government Is Open

Next time Obama’s RINO collaborators bleat that they must fully finance his malign agenda lest there be another government shutdown, keep this in mind:

President Barack Obama’s regulatory agenda cost Americans $784 million every day the federal government was open for business last year, according to a new report, partly driven by costly environmental and health rules.

Bureaucrats pushed $197 billion in regulatory costs in 2015, including $99 billion in costs due to finalized regulations on industries covering energy producers to food companies to manufacturers. In total, regulators wrote 82,036 pages of rules in the Federal Register last year — a record level.

Yet even now establishmentarians fret about government shutdowns as if they were somehow a bad thing.

“A year of federal regulation can produce a numbers-rich discussion: $197 billion in costs, 82,036 pages of regulation, and 127 million paperwork burden hours,” Sam Batkins, regulatory policy director at the right-leaning American Action Forum (AAF), writes in a new report released Tuesday.

AAF compiled economic data on all the regulations proposed and finalized by federal agencies last year and found Obama’s agenda cost every voter $838.

That’s only the direct cost. Indirect costs in terms of smothered economic opportunity are impossible to calculate. Obama’s costliest regulations are mostly inflicted by the EPA and Department of Energy on behalf of the global warming hoax. Only a dupe would believe they have any effect on the weather, but their effect on employers is obvious.

Perhaps people fear government shut downs because so many people have become so dependent on the government for food stamps, EBT cards, VA and disability benefits, welfare and unemployment checks. and gubmint jobs.

Even a government that is shutdown is still open. Nearly to the tune of 80% open.
