Rachel Maddow praises Trump’s admittedly successful media strategy of drawing attention to himself with outrageous proclamations, while Sarah Isgur Flores, former deputy campaign manager for Carly Fiorina, takes cable news to task for reducing this presidential campaign to something that belongs in the back tent at a carnival in its heedless quest for ratings:
Madcow is quite right that media people virtually handing the nomination to Trump by giving him $2 billion worth of free publicity does not mean they want him to be president. Most of them are pulling for Hillary Clinton. Given that Trump is by far the least likely Republican candidate to beat her, this has provided added motivation, on top of the ratings boost they knew they could count on by helping to stage a cross between a vaudeville act and a train wreck.
