Trump Denounces Geneva Conventions

Evidence continues to accrue that Trump isn’t just an obnoxious ignoramus with narcissistic personality disorder. He is a bad guy:

“The problem is we have the Geneva Conventions, all sorts of rules and regulations, so the soldiers are afraid to fight,” Trump said at an afternoon town hall during remarks on torture. …

The Geneva Conventions, adopted broadly after World War II, govern the treatment of civilians and prisoners of war — including a ban on torture and summary executions. They mirror rules the U.S. adopted in 1882.

Trump has called for changing laws that govern interrogation techniques to “bring back a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding.”

Like the radical Muslims he exploits with his demagoguery, Trump would drag the world back to a very dark place.

He famously shouted during a debate that Americans would obey his illegal orders regarding torture and the murder of suspected terrorists’ innocent relatives. Once again, the Donald was wrong. There are citizens of the USA who might obey this fiend, but no true American would. We are the good guys.

Truly terrifying.

On tips from Torcer and Byron.

If Trump would ever take the time to study some policy, he’d know that terrorists don’t ever fall under the Geneva convention. That’s because all countries agree that terrorists by definition already defy all so-called rules of war. Apparently the leftist hack at Politico is clueless as well.

One more thing, from what I’ve read during the iraq war we already effectively outsourced enhanced interrogation to some of our middle east allies. No need for US troops to do the actual dirty work. Besides, those guys have a lots of experience at it.

But other enemies, including the NVA, the NORKs, and the Nazis were proper nation state combatants, and they did not follow the Geneva and Hague conventions. If I were to make the decision, I would renounce the treaties, but make it Executive Policy to follow their norms as long as they benefit us. For example, not routinely executing POWs and treating them decently makes it easier to convince the enemy to surrender. OTOH, we should have no compunction against executing POWs who violate our rules of captivity.

War is such an ugly thing, it is intended to be that way so that we are not too hasty to play with it. It has always struck me as odd that we try to make rules for something that is supposed to be all about killing others and breaking their stuff until they give up. Kind of like playing Mother May I with crew served weapons…

Back in the day duels were fought over public slights to a man’s honor. That honor was held in so highly is beyond what we know today. We sell our honor very cheaply (most often for politics and money)…God, honor, and country is on life support.

  • For a smart guy, Dave, you can be as dumb as a box of rocks.

The Geneva Convention only works when all the players are signatories — and ISIS isn’t.

Where in the Geneva Conventions is beheading, burning, crucifying, stoning, etc. sanctioned?

Trump doesn’t understand the GWOT anymore than he understands the purpose of government. The Geneva Conventions have nothing to do with the reason that we fight the way we do. The problem has always been ROE(Rules of Engagement).

Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon – Vietnam
    Bush 41 – Somalia
Clinton – Mogadishu, Somalia, and Kosovo
    Bush 43 – Afghanistan & Iraq
Obama – Afghanistan, Iraq, Lybia, Syria

In every instance, American soldiers have died because of ROE that tie their hands and force them into circumstances where they are killed or severely wounded because the CinC has FAILED to take the appropriate steps to ensure that they are not sacrificed needlessly. I hold each of the Presidents listed personally responsible for the brothers I have lost who could have been saved had they been given the ROE necessary to win and survive those battles. I don’t want another American sent to one of these no win wars, if we go, we go to do what it takes to kill the enemy without killing our own people in the process.

The soldiers I know, the door kickers and trigger pullers, are not afraid to die. We voluntarily undertake that sacrifice and will die for each other without hesitation. But dying for some political expediency or worse, for political correctness, is unacceptable. Dying so that some coward can feel morally superior is unconscionable.

In Trump’s defense, he has no idea what he’s talking about and lacks the intellectual curiosity to learn. If he really meant any of this, he’d be a “bad guy”. But at this point most people understand that he is a clown spouting gibberish that he imagines the right wing base wants to hear. For someone to be a bad guy, there has to be intent. There is no intent in his words other than to get his dwindling fan base jazzed.

Fortunately, even his moronic fans know that you don’t just throw out the Geneva Conventions so you can kill peoples’ families. Or some of them, anyway. A few of them are too far gone.

Last year an Allahu Ackbar shooter lined up teenage students at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. He asked each individual student if they were a Christian. The first student said yes and was shot in the head. The second said no and was by-passed. The third student – knowing what was coming – said yes, and was also shot in the head. The fourth student, like the third – knew the fatal consequences – but nevertheless stood defiantly and said yes and was shot through the brain.
    .
The breath-taking courage shown and the life-sacrificing dedication to freedom is also given unquestionably and unconditionally by members of our military and law enforcement who face imminent death at any given moment simply to shield and protect the public from the ugliness and danger that – quite honestly – they cannot and should never see.
    .
When namby-pamby paper-pushers and deadly naïve leaders like Obama create guidelines for military engagement every one of us suffers the fate of a hero.

The most important lesson to be learned from that entire debacle is courage, whether it is the courage to die for ones beliefs you mentioned or the courage of Chris Mintz, the Army vet who charged the gunman and saved the lives of the remaining potential victims. Without his military training, he would not have had the courage, determination and fighting skills to save the remaining victims. Training like Victory Forge and The Crucible are designed to make you hard. Those skills and the lessons learned on the battlefield are what allow you to survive.

All of Progressive ideology is centered around weakness, cowardice and failure, it cannot exist without those things. Be weak, go along with the gunman, hijacker, armed robber, don’t arm and prepare yourself for battle, call 911, rely on the government only they can help you, you cannot help yourself, you cannot save yourself.

Progressives in the media and government buried the Mintz story after covering it for a day or two. He received less press than the Muslim murderer. Courage, honor and duty have no place in the NWO because courageous, moral, results oriented people cannot be controlled.
