Gary Johnson, “Libertarian” Candidate, Thinks Jews Should Be Forced to Bake Nazi Cakes

Unless we see a miraculous display of principle and courage at the Republican convention, the party will be fielding a candidate as profoundly unacceptable as Hillary Clinton. This has sparked renewed interest in the Libertarian Party as an alternative to staying home.

Google searches for “Libertarian Party” surged when Ted Cruz dropped out. At the same time, Libertarian Party membership applications also shot upward.

As a protest vote, the Libertarian Party has the advantage of being explicitly devoted to American principles. Unfortunately, it has been a magnet for kooks, one of whom could secure the nomination at the end of the month. His name is Gary Johnson.

From last month:

During the first hour of the Libertarian Party presidential forum that aired Friday night on the Fox Business Network, leading Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson admitted that in his view, Jewish bakers should be forced by government to bake wedding cakes for Nazis.

The issue arose when fellow Libertarian presidential candidate Austin Petersen brought to the attention of moderator John Stossel that in an earlier debate in Oregon, Johnson declared that bakeries should be forced to bake wedding cakes for gay couples. Johnson affirmed the position, arguing that being able to discriminate on the basis of religion is a “black hole.” Petersen pushed Johnson on the issue and asked whether he felt Jewish bakers should be forced to bake wedding cakes for Nazi customers. Stossel directed the question to Johnson, who replied “that would be my contention, yes.”

A comedian wanting to take anti-libertarianism to the farthest extreme of parody would be likely to arrive at the exact same view as Gary Johnson.

In contrast, an actual advocate of limited government would hold that interactions between businesses and customers must be entered into freely by both sides.

Watch in horror as Johnson advocates his authoritarian conception of “libertarianism”:

If this totalitarian dingbat gets the nomination, maybe we should try the Constitution Party. Eventually conservatives will find a permanent home, either in a Trumpster-free GOP, a de-kookified existing third party, or a new party constructed from scratch.

Some hands off government twerp Johnson is!

  • Dolan Tump

There is a guy who supposedly was originally Tea Party running against Johnson in the Libertarian primary.

  • Occam’s Stubble

I saw Johnson on an episode of RedEye a few months ago and he was spouting some very un-libertarian ideas. I wrote him off then.

  • Kevin R.

The Libertarian candidate doesn’t understand anything about property rights and why they are bound with liberty. Now I’ve seen everything.

  • Dolan Tump

He’s a bit of a hippie but he would definitely pull in a fair amount of independents and moderate dems.

Kind of puts “the Republican candidate is a flaming liberal” in perspective, doesn’t it?

  • Johnson is a joke but his recent double-digit polling betrayed just how unelectable Trump is- those votes aren’t coming from the Dem candidate

Libertarians are just SJWs who say freedom slightly more often than they cry oppression. Their open borders fanaticism makes the Gang of 8 look somewhat unambitious in its efforts to displace white Americans with foreign imports. Not terribly surprising that lots of disaffected Republicans are interested in the Libertarian party.

I voted Constitution Party in 2004. The candidate’s entire platform was essentially ‘I’ll do the job as described in the comstitution.’ Alas, my guy did not prevail, instead the office went to a fellow who wanted to flood the country with mexicans while spreading democratic revolutions across the globe. Nice enough fellow but quite a bit to the left for my liking.

This is why I say I’m a “Constitutionalist”. I’m not a Republican, because they’re held in hock to the Religious Right and “the Republican Establishment” (think “Democrat Lite”). I think I’m closer to being a Libertarian than anything else but they can’t break away from their “crazy factor”. Sorry…some of the sh*t that Libertarians (notice the big “L”) say is just batsh*t crazy.

How can a “true” libertarian say that you should remove the liberty from people regarding who they choose to serve? Exactly which libertarian ideal does this represent?

And Libertarians still wonder why no one takes them seriously…

    But you knew that, huh?

Discussions with/between libertarians generally take one of two direction:
    1. Who is a real libertarian, and
    2. Legalize all drugs.

  • AlecJ

Gary Johnson is a tool and a glory hound. He shouldnt be the standard bearer for any party.

Austin Pedersen is very much like Ted Cruz….but even more libertarian. He is intelligent, clear with his message, and forward looking.

If the Libertarian Party wanted to be taken seriously….and wanted to be looked at as something more than merely another group of elitists with their special interests…..

    They would nominate Austin Pedersen.

Just watch though…..exactly like the Dems and Repubs….they will ignore the grassroots and get behind the same old establishment-type phony.

Gary Johnson is a typical politician with nothing to offer except name recognition.

This is the year the Libertarian Party could make serious inroads with mainstream voters…..but they wont.

Political Parties are all the same…..

  • AlecJ

Austin Pedersen…..he is the real deal. I would vote for him in a second.

Johnson is merely a ego driven politician who couldnt make it in a major party any more.

  • TrojanMan

I was going to say the same thing. Austin Peterson is the better choice over Johnson. He supports SSM but would not force businesses to cowtow to the sodomites. Also look at the constitution party. Either one is irrelevant in the end as Hillary has already purchased the election.

  • Spiny Norman

There’s a difference between the “big L” Libertarian Party (aka the Marijuana Party) and the small “l” libertarians who advocate limited government and free markets, as illustrated by, say, economics professor Walter E Williams.

Is there no freedom loving politician anywhere?
    Is religion worse than tyrrany?
Is he so mad at daddy (God) that he wants to invert the idea of libertarianism?
Wouldn’t a libertarian say sell or dont sell, its up to you?

  • Mannie

For me, the issue over the bakers like Sweet Cakes by Melissa is over coerced speech. Coerced speech is as heinous as prohibited speech. The case is much more clear with Elane Photography. Photography is definitely an artform, and they were called on to extol something they disagreed with. It doesn’t matter what. For that reason I disagree with the finding against Elane.

Sweet Cakes is, IMO, not so clear. If Sexual Preference is a protected class, then routine public accommodations like hotel room rental and catering must be provided. But is baking a cake and slapping a couple of out-of-the-box figures on top art, or simple public accommodation. Even if they were expected to letter “Good Wishes and Hot Sex to Adam and Steve,” is that forced authorship, an artform, or simply requiring them to act as a scribe. My leaning is toward the latter.

  • grayjohn

Then Nazi’s should be forced to back Jew cakes and other non Arian cakes. Fair is fair.

  • grayjohn

Nope. Anyone in politics has been compromised or they wouldn’t be in politics.

  • RKae

When a baker refuses to bake a cake, he’s already been “fined” and “punished.” He’s not getting that customer’s money.

That should be the end of his fine and punishment.

  • BostonLiberty

Maybe Gay Bakers should be forced to bake Christian cakes. Or better yet, forced to bake Muslim cakes for Ramadan! See how long it is before their bakery is burned down by the religion of peace just for being gay. Funny how Liberals don’t understand just how amazing America is. Try opening your Gay Bakery in the middle east, and let us know how it works out.

Seems like too many libertarians are just spoiled brats. I’ve known a few and mostly they are kooks. They are old enough to vote, but very immature and self-centered.

So I’d say that these creeps feautred on here are right on target for the party they are in. Republicans are lucky to be rid of them.

  • Richard Canary

Art has nothing to do with this issue. Libertyn is the issue,a nd liberty is what liberals hate most. Libs want everyone to want whatever libs want, or to face the consequences, and the filthy crooked judges back them up every time. We MUST find ways to make these judges SUFFER for their crimes against justice.
