Oakland police deployed tear gas and smoke at about 500 Occupy Oakland marchers Saturday afternoon, arresting 19 protesters after they attempted to enter a vacant convention center, police said.
Three officers were injured as protesters threw bottles, metal pipe, rocks, spray cans and “improvised explosive devices,” and lit flares, police said, in a large skirmish on the front steps of the Oakland Museum of California.
The marchers had announced plans to occupy a vacant building to create the movement’s headquarters, with plans for a two-day party. Police and city officials vowed to not allow it.

Soros wants to be right so bad… he says the occupy movement is going to turn violent and his outlet ADBUSTERS… well, read the article:
Adbusters, the radical, Vancouver-based anti-consumerist magazine, credited by many media outlets for launching the Occupy Wall Street protests, has put out an ad calling for 50,000 protestors to “Occupy” the G8 summit in May. And they are not calling for peaceful protest.
Looks like they’re once again calling for the “useful idiots” to become “cannon fodder” so they can get that “Kent State Moment” they need so badly in order to make people get emotional so they’ll stop thinking rationally.
So the same group that called for the Occupy Wall Street protests in the first place is now calling for protestors to shut down the entire economic system of a city if their demands are not met, in the tradition of people who brought us the 1968 Democratic convention riots.
The claim that the Occupy Movement is composed of peaceful protestors seeking constructive and meaningful change stopped being credible long ago.

I hope they do try it. I will enjoy seeing how Rahm will ruthlessly respond.
It turns out that Ms. Bosanek reportedly makes about $60,000 a year. When they suggest that she pays 35 percent of her income in federal income taxes, Obama and Buffett are apparently taking her federal marginal tax rate, adding both sides of the payroll tax, and comparing it to what must be Buffett’s effective tax rate. Megan McArdle observed: “That comparison is beyond bizarre.” It is a farcical mistake to take anything these folks say at face value.
“No fair asking why we should take his word for any of this. No fair asking why, if he’s so worried about not paying enough taxes, he doesn’t pay the $1 billion — that’s $1,000,000,000 — he already owes. No fair. No fair. Shut up.” Citing Politico, Treacher adds that the White House isn’t much interested in exploring details either. Politico explains that “for the moment, the White House wants to keep the attention focused on Obama’s argument that it’s unfair to tax Buffett’s secretary at a higher rate than her boss.” My translation: The White House wants to keep the propaganda undiluted.
Trade, the earliest form of capitalism, has been going on for 100,000 years. Farming has been going on for 10,000 years. Groups that engaged in capitalism – trade – grew and flourished while those who did not died off.

Any of you other moonbats who are thinking it would be great to own a jar of air, I got one for you and I will only charge you 1/10 of the price – remember, having this is a must because, as the article says:
The air you are purchasing is like buying an endless tank of oxygen. No matter where you are, you always have the ability to take a breath of the most delicious, clean-smelling air that the earth can produce. Every breath you take gives you endless peace and health. This artwork is something to carry with you if you own it. Supposedly those behind this nonsense are planning a world tour. I suggest they start with the “occupy” crowd – they might find a few there who are gullible enough to fall for their nonsense!
Religion and faith are touchy concepts in a nation without a state religion and moreso in a country that has become as secular as ours where any public religious display is met by an uproar from the American Civil Liberties Union which consistently invokes a non-existent constitutional ”separation of church and state” clause.
The ACLU and other atheists hang their hats on the Constitution’s Second Amendment which in part reads, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”
Those words reflect the Founding Fathers’ abhorrence of the idea of state religion and insistence on the right of absolute religious freedom but make no reference to banning religion from the public square.
Founded on fundamentally Christian principles, for over a century America thrived on religious precepts and evolved into a predominantly-Christian nation where, even today, 77% of our citizens describe themselves as Christians–despite ACLU protests to the contrary.
Nevertheless, the issues of religion and Christianity are far from fully resolved in America and continue to be raised by atheists and other godless people.
Religion became an issue in 1928 with Alfred E. Smith and in 1960 with John F. Kennedy, both Roman Catholics. It has again become a hot topic in 2012 because Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney is an adherent to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a Mormon.
The point is, Does anyone’s religion or lack thereof really matter in the United States? Aside from radical faiths dedicated to our destruction, atheists, and the Left, it shouldn’t, yet it does.
Religion obviously matters to sixteen year old budding atheist Jessica Ahlquist, a junior at Rhode Island’s Cranston High School West.
Ms. Ahlquist protested, with help from the ACLU, against the display of a 49-year old “prayer banner” at Cranston. She succeeded in getting a federal judge to rule the banner unconstitutional and school officials to cover it up in spite of widespread community opposition.
The prayer addresses “Our Heavenly Father” and exhorts students to grow morally and physically, to be kind, helpful, honest, and friendly, and to smile.
Ms. Ahlquist won that battle though she has been beset by reprehensible threats due to her complaints. Cranston, Rhode Island, and the rest of us lost. See the story and the text of the offensive prayer here http://huff.to/xJatyL.
Leftist politics not only makes for strange bedfellows. It makes for some strange and nasty people who use their contempt for religion to further political agendas.

In short, atheists and “secularists” seem to be confusing freedom OF religion with their preferred freedom FROM religion, which is not to be found anywhere within the Constitution.
They point to an obscure letter to an even more obscure group to support their specious arguments and forget the history that led to the founding of this nation.
For it was attempts to escape others just like them, people who will stop at nothing in their attempts to force their ideas on others, which drove the early settlers here.
Persecution because of their desire to freely and openly practice their religion was the motive behind the migration and, only after the religious did the hard work, did the atheists come in and try to claim they did it all wrong. Of course, it’s the atheists who are doing it wrong.

Today the Detroit Free Press (aka Pravda) has an article hyping our former Governor Granholm taking the lead on Al Gores Current TV
SAN FRANCISCO – Cynthia Nixon learned the hard way this week that when it comes to gay civil rights, the personal is always political. Very political.
The actress best known for portraying fiery lawyer Miranda Hobbes on “Sex and the City” is up to her perfectly arched eyebrows in controversy since The New York Times Magazine published a profile in which she was quoted as saying that for her, being gay was a conscious choice. Nixon is engaged to a woman with whom she has been in a relationship for eight years. Before that, she spent 15 years and had two children with a man.
“I understand that for many people it’s not, but for me it’s a choice, and you don’t get to define my gayness for me,” Nixon said while recounting some of the flak gay rights activists previously had given her for treading in similar territory. “A certain section of our community is very concerned that it not be seen as a choice, because if it’s a choice, then we could opt out. I say it doesn’t matter if we flew here or we swam here, it matters that we are here and we are one group and let us stop trying to make a litmus test for who is considered gay and who is not.”
To say that a certain segment of the gay community “is very concerned that it not be seen as a choice” is an understatement. Gay rights activists have worked hard to combat the idea that people decide to be physically attracted to same-sex partners any more than they choose to be attracted to opposite-sex ones because the question, so far unanswered by science, is often used by religious conservatives, including GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum and former candidate Michelle Bachman, to argue that homosexuality is immoral behavior, not an inherent trait.
“Three officers were injured as protesters threw bottles, metal pipe, rocks, spray cans and “improvised explosive devices,” and lit flares, police said, in a large skirmish on the front steps of the Oakland Museum of California.”
