Call for Sugar to Be Regulated as a Toxin
Our liberal rulers’ lust to dominate is infinite — just like the list of everyday substances they will tightly regulate for our own supposed good. Incredibly yet unsurprisingly, this list may soon include sugar:
Sugar and other sweeteners are, in fact, so toxic to the human body that they should be regulated as strictly as alcohol by governments worldwide, according to a commentary in the current issue of the journal Nature by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).
The researchers propose regulations such as taxing all foods and drinks that include added sugar, banning sales in or near schools and placing age limits on purchases.
Academics tell us that half of us are obese. Consequently radical measures are required.
Why would researchers prop up phony panics like global warming and obesity, and constantly find that government power must be expanded to the point of absurdity and beyond? Because government is where their funding comes from.
According to the authors, 75% of US healthcare spending is on diet-related diseases. Therefore, with the government taking over the medical sector via ObamaCare, all diet must be determined by bureaucrats, lest tax dollars be spent unnecessarily.
When our diet has been reduced to a federally specified portion of tasteless vegan mush three times a day, they’ll find that some people bite their tongues while eating the mush, and therefore everyone’s teeth must be pulled.
They came after the smokers, but I said nothing because I wasn’t a smoker…

On tips from J, Muddypaw, and Winston Smith.

Jack booted Food Natzis. They’re just here to help you.
It’s funny, the lefties like to hate meat, eggs, milk, salt, and sugar. Ironically, all things that God gave us to fuel our bodies.
more people think that they should be able to tell me what to do. I just don’t understand why, If i want to be … fat, skinny, pimplie, old, dirty, clean, live in a house, trailer, mansion, eat sh*t, sugar, or oatmeal, I just can’t live. I am not hurting anyone.
I am paying for my way (and helping to support 6 families by choice, and millions by force)
I am civil to people, and allow them thier “ways”.
why do i have to go to a dr to die? why can’t i just die on my own?
and Jodie: they like murderers, rapists, thieves,…whales, snails, and worms…
@Jodie – Don’t forget water for bathing and a job. (unrelated I know.)
Where does it stop, folks!? When does the revolution start?!
Soon the lefties will have regulated themselves out of anything to spend all those lovely deficit dollars on!
The liberal fascists have no end point to their regulation. There is always something new that they will regulate (like the CO2 that you emit when you exhale…oh wait).
Just another reason to repeal ObamaCare. If the fed is paying your health care bill, they have their hooks into you. My pursuit of happiness is a God Given, unalienable right, and if I want sugar and chocolate chips on my oatmeal, it is no one else’s business.
Today’s liberalism is clearly fascism. Call it like it is.
@Had it up to here…it’s just around the corner…armed
Ban adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP)
This confirms, once again, that the authoritarian left views are bodies as government assets, to be managed by our overlords.
So, now it’s sugar. Well, it’s not surprising. When those who desire to control every single aspect of your life see no resistance from you, they simply squeeze a little harder each day. These are the same FoodNazi’s who have the power to set the bar when it comes to defining what words like obese mean. Fact is, they can declare every person in the country as “obese”. And, since we have become a nation of pathetic sheep, they’ll get away with it.
That the list of things we can’t eat, drink, wear, smoke, and drive, is getting longer by the day, is just an indication of how incredibly weak the people are. God intended sheep to be herded, and that’s exactly what the govt. is doing.
Oh crap, no. Something more for my Old Man to hoard.
Not to worry, Ralph.
There’s no more room with all those ammo boxes.
Ric, I have to say that you are wrong.
The fascists that want to regulate anything and everything from our lives do not allow those regulations to apply to themselves.
As an example, note all the powerful people that are for gun control and banning guns… that themselved have armed guards around them 24/7.
Never underestimate a Liberal’s power to be a hypocrite!
Time to issue those Ration Books…hello, 1942 !
Here’s more ham-fisted (tofu fisted?) food utopianism:
No chocolate chip cookies for you! Colorado law makers may force school districts to eliminate–not just reduce, but eliminate transfats in the cafeteria food. This may even affect the traditional bake sale. So, if the music department needs new music stands because the forty year old ones are falling apart, delling tofu bars is okay, sugar cookies will be confiscated.
http://denver.cbslocal.com/2012/01/18/trans-fat-ban-proposed-for-colorado-schools/
I can’t even think about not having chocolate! or coffee! These people make me sick! It’s not the foods making us fat or sick, it’s THEM!
I notice they are attacking potatoes and bananas too – both amazing foods.
“The baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity at some point may be sated; and since he dimly knows he is doing wrong he may possibly repent. But the inquisitor who mistakes his own cruelty and lust of power and fear for the voice of Heaven will torment us infinitely more because he torments us with the approval of his own conscience and his better impulses appear to him as temptations. ” C.S. Lewis
My memory banks seem to indicate that your brain consumes about 80% of the sugar in your blood stream. Lower sugar…less brain activity.
It seems to fit.
Sounds like the beginnings of “Soylent Green”
You vill eat your unsveetened porridge, and you vill love it!
Or else!
Jess, I like this version of the (attributed) C.S. Lewis quote better:
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be sated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
Neither version is actually sourced, but whoever said it was speaking the truth.
“lest tax dollars be spent unnecessarily”
Oh, that’s a good one! I’m sure that’s a number one priority.
Idiots like LAO will continue to assert that his fellow REGRESSIVES do not have a lust for power.
Sugar is a natural food product, and I will take it in moderation anytime over some poisonous chemical like aspartame manufactured in a laboratory.
This sliders episode shows the kind of world they want.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmY56Q1Gx-Q
You mentioned a key point Mickey Shea when you said “moderation.” When it comes to sugar consumption, concepts like self-control, personal choice, and all other terms that encompass basic freedom are thrown out the window when you have a government like ours!
When you can buy super chocolate chunk ice cream or a bunch of celery with someone else’s money (EBT), which choice do you think a person is going to make. They don’t have to pay for the food, they don’t have to pay for the healthcare, the list goes on…..
With the way that our own government spends money, it is of no surprise to me that so called “scientists” come out of the woodwork with studies like this. They (the government) don’t moderate themselves, so why should everyone else? Moderation is a dirty word unless the government does it for you!
re kharN @ 10:09: As always, I enjoy your attacks on imaginary things I supposedly believe.
Is sugar currently subject to proposed legislation? No, this is a SUGGESTION by some university researchers.
Meanwhile, actual Republican legislation in Virginia will require women wanting an abortion to get an ultrasound, while current medical practice allows them to request an ultrasound if they want one.
Does that requirement represent a Republican lust for power?
When I was a kid, I never thought I’d see the day when I would have to stock up and hoard real light bulbs. But that day has come to pass.
Now I have to stock up and hoard sugar?
Where will it end?
“lao says:February 2, 2012 at 12:59 pm”
Deneyal again. These are YOUR people, not ours. Absolute control is what you want, TYRANY is what you will get.
By the way, what’s the plan to handle and control all the MUSLIMS AND MEXICANS your leaders encouraged to screw America over for your revolution?
Careful there KHarn,
If you get LaoZee/Vega too angry, he will throw timestamps at you, and then post a few meaningless and unrelated Obama speeches.
U B Warned!
Actually Lao, the government has a long history of CODDLING the sugar industry
http://www.fas.usda.gov/itp/imports/ussugar.asp
Of course this is all meant to run up the price of HFCS
(High fructose corn syrup)
kharn, it seems you are simply incapable of attacking or discussing what I ACTUALLY say.
Over and over and over again, you imagine you KNOW what I think, you express your imaginary belief about what that is, then you attack it.
That’s impossibly lame.
Meanwhile, poor stanWE is still grumpy about being pwned, over his absurdly obvious lies, for two days in a row.
LaoZee/Vega, Why is abbreviation such a long word?
If you have no problem with a bureaucracy telling you what you can and can not consume as long as you get to retain the choice of how and when to dispose of your unborn children as you see fit, you are morally retarded.
Not just unborn children, SoaPM. The Liberals also oppose efforts to protect children who survive abortions and are born alive.
I suggest we tax academics, and characters named lao who think living under the thumb of liberals would be akin to paradise.
We do need to ban academics, or regulate them, similar to sex offenders. Have every academic register their address, something like the sex offender registry. When one opens his / her yap and this type of crap falls out, we’ll know where they live and ..ahem…talk to them to straighten them out.

Isn’t sugar traded on the commodities market? Another sucker punch to our economy.

lao sez: “Is sugar currently subject to proposed legislation? No…
Of course it is. Are you really that out of touch? I’m not wasting one second of my precious time posting links (which would be pointless anyway) but to suggest that sugar is NOT the subject of proposed legislation is stupidity to the extreme, or just dishonest. Not a month goes by without some lefty proposing taxing or banning products with sugar in them. Salt too. Trans-Fats.. you name it, somewhere there is a political ego deciding what I should be allowed to eat it (unless I pay a fee to the government). Hell, in some places, you can’t even get a toy with your childs Happy Meal.
When it gets to the stage of “The government proposes to regulate sugar as a toxin” do let us know.
Just who do you think the researchers at UCSF work for?
Amazingly enough, I think they work for the University of Southern California.
And of course, you would be wrong. When you figure out what University were talkin’ about, do let us know.
Marxist shit!! They didn’t get global warming tax as they had hoped so now it is sugar tax. Next fat tax, then .. I don’t know but I am sure they are working on it. time to kick all these self serving politicians.
Marijuana is good though and contraceptics don’t need no regulation right? Tax sugar!!
