Susan G. Komen for the Cure stood up to the liberal establishment at least briefly by temporarily declaring that it would stop funneling donations meant for cancer research to the abortion mill Planned Parenthood, which doesn’t even do mammograms. An unfortunate casualty of this Culture War skirmish was the admirable countermoonbat Karen Handel:
The vice president of public policy at Susan G. Komen for the Cure who backed the breast cancer charity’s move to strip Planned Parenthood of funding resigned Tuesday, saying she stands by the now-abandoned decision that set off a storm of controversy.
Karen Handel, who had denounced Planned Parenthood as a former gubernatorial candidate in Georgia, said in her resignation letter and later interviews that she was actively engaged in the efforts to cut off the grants.
Planned Parenthood is currently under investigation for illegally spending taxpayer money to abort babies. This nefarious and lavishly subsidized outfit received $680,000 from Komen last year.
Handel — whose own views on abortion are moderate — wanted to spare donors the agony of having donated their hard-earned money to fight breast cancer, only to learn that it went to an organization devoted to killing children. For this she had to walk the plank. But at least her self-respect is intact.
