  • Another bit of Obama’s legacy is that violent crime has ceased it’s long term decline and has started back up… but that’s not the primary focus of this story:

    Chicago under counting murder rate:

    https://aminewswire.com/stories/511071497-chicago-homicides-even-higher-than-reported

Chicago Homicides Even Higher Than Reported

The record-setting violence in Chicago is even worse than announced as new evidence shows the city suffered 50 more homicides last year than the numbers publicly reported in the past week.

The city posted a decades-high homicide count of 812 in 2016, per the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. That’s 15% greater than the 762 murders reported by the city’s police department.

The discrepancy is largely due to the fact that the county tallies “homicides” while the police number counts “murders.” Murders are defined as violent acts subject to criminal prosecution. Homicides, according to the medical examiner, include instances “when the death of a person comes at the hand of another person. This does not imply that all homicides are murders that would be subject to criminal prosecution.”

The city police count is also lower because it excludes violent, intentional deaths if the act is deemed justified, including police killings of residents.

Per the county’s count, homicides rose 54% in 2016 over 2015 when Chicago had 528 deaths determined to be homicides.

Gun violence is the leading cause of death for victims of homicide in Chicago with 725 decedents being felled by at least one gunshot wound.

African Americans also bore the brunt of the violence in Cook County, which includes Chicago. They accounted for 710 of the county-wide total of 915 (88% of which occurred in the city). Men comprised 90% of the homicide victims in the county.

Other cities saw similar increases in homicides per a recently released FBI data. Cities with over one million inhabitants saw murder rise by 21.6% in the first half of 2016 over the first half of 2015, when homicide jumped in most urban centers after decades of falling murder rates.

  • Following in Obama’s footsteps, Emmanuel attempts to bully Moodys into playing ball:

Chicago Mayor Pushes Moody’s to Rescind City’s Junk-Bond Rating

Mayor Rahm Emanuel, a Democrat who pushed through a record tax increase to shore up the city’s finances, asked the company to pull its junk rating on Chicago’s debt, saying it’s exaggerating the risks to bondholders and failing to recognize steps he’s taken. Chicago has already stopped hiring Moody’s to rate new bond deals, relying instead on rivals S&P Global Ratings and Fitch Ratings that continue to consider its debt investment grade.
“It has become increasingly clear that Moody’s rating methodology and agenda are far from objective and independent,” Emanuel said in a Dec. 8 letter to Moody’s Chief Executive Officer Raymond McDaniel that was released by the city. “Your current rating does not accurately reflect the city’s credit or our ability to pay debt service when due.”

Chicago became the only major U.S. city outside of Detroit with a junk rating in 2015, when Moody’s downgraded it because of the escalating pension bills triggered by years of failing to set aside enough money to cover promised benefits.

With its rating also downgraded by S&P and Fitch, Chicago has had to pay higher interest rates to bond investors, adding to its financial strain. A Chicago general-obligation bond maturing in 2026, one of the city’s most active securities, is showing a yield to worst of about 5.10 percent, nearly three percentage points more than benchmark debt, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

Time for a break from all the crap… Apologizing in advance.

    ALL PUNS INTENDED

    1.
Two antennas met on a roof, fell in love and got married. The ceremony wasn’t
much, but the reception was excellent.

    2.
A jumper cable walks into a bar. The bartender says, “I’ll serve you, but don’t
    start anything.”

    3. Two peanuts walk into a bar, and one was a

    4. A dyslexic man
    walked into a bra.

    5. A man walks into a bar with a slab of asphalt under his

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One says to the other: “Does this taste funny
    to you?”

    7. “Doc, I can’t stop singing The Green, Green Grass of
    Home.”

“That sounds like Tom Jones Syndrome.”

    “Is it common?”

    “Well, It’s Not Unusual.”

    8. Two cows are standing next to each other in a field. Daisy
says to Dolly, “I was artificially inseminated this
    morning.”

“I don’t believe you,” says Dolly.

“It’s true; no bull!” exclaims Daisy.

    9. An invisible man marries an invisible woman. The kids were
    nothing to look at either.

    10. Deja Moo: The feeling that you’ve heard this bull
    before.

    11. I went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day, but
    I couldn’t find any.

    13. I went to a seafood disco last week… And pulled a
    mussel.

    14. What do you call a fish with no eyes? A
    fsh.

    15. Two fish swim into a concrete wall. The one turns to the
    other and says, “Dam!”

    16. Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a
    fire in the craft.

Not surprisingly it sank, proving once again that you can’t
have your kayak and heat it too.

    17. A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel, and
were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament
    victories.

After about an hour, the manager came out of the office, and
    asked them to disperse.

“But why,” they asked, as they moved
    off.

“Because,” he said. “I can’t stand chess-nuts boasting in an
    open foyer.”

    18. A woman has twins, and gives them up for
    adoption.

    One
of them goes to a family in Egypt , and is named
    ‘Ahmal.’

The other goes to a family in Spain ; they name him
    ‘Juan.’

Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his birth
mother. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wishes she
also had a picture of Ahmal.

Her husband responds, “They’re twins! If you’ve seen Juan,
    you’ve seen Ahmal.”

    19. Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the
time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his
    feet.

    He
also ate very little, which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he
    suffered from bad breath.

This made him (oh, man, this is so bad, it’s good)… A
super-calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

    20. A dwarf, who was a mystic, escaped from jail. The call
went out that there was a small medium at large.

    21.
And finally, there was the person who sent a few
different puns to his friends, with the hope that at least ten of the puns would
make them laugh. No pun in ten did. See? I told ya!

  • Mr. Freemarket

Maybe that is where Bruce Jenner is hoping to get lucky.

  • It turns out there are other possible reasons liberals are so angry and, by their own admission, in need of pharmacological support:

    http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2017/01/10/copper-toxicity/

Now I happen to like some of the foods mentioned and I will eat them when given the chance too – but unlike many of the sort of vegan liberals who are the biggest malcontents and troublemakers, I also eat meat.

Read to the bottom, it also explains apparent moonbat dementia:

Experts say there’s something metallic lurking in those foods, in our water, and elsewhere that could be making us feel miserable.

Anxiety, trouble focusing, exhaustion, and an all around mental funk are familiar symptoms for a lot of people.

“People will come in with very non-specific symptoms; they feel moody, have depression, difficulty falling asleep,” Dr. Svetlana Kogan explained.

After some investigation Dr. Kogan — an internist — said she found that copper is increasingly the culprit.

“Copper is an essential element,” she explained.

Like iron, our bodies need copper for normal growth and health, Dr. Kogan said.

Certain foods like shellfish, leafy greens, cashews, and chickpeas are naturally high in copper.

“These are wonderful things to have as part of our diet, but if somebody is consuming excess they could certainly be at risk,” she said.

At risk for a condition known as ‘copper toxicity.’

“If you had six cups of coffee and you’re feeling jittery, that’s the feeling to describe copper toxicity,” she explained.

An increase in vegetable based diets may also be contributing to copper overload, Kogan said.

Environmental exposure to things like copper water pipes may also be a factor.

“We always recommend to have your water tested,” said Rob Zadotti.

Zadotti, co-owner of Gold Medal Service, said if the PH of your water is not within a safe range it will start to deteriorate the lining of your copper pipes.

While you might not be able to taste the copper in your water, there are other telltale signs it’s there.

“Bluish stains or greenish stains on their tubs,” Mike Jackson explained.

Jackson is a technical field supervisor at Gold Medal, he recommended a water filtration system.

As for treating copper toxicity, Kogan prescribed an infrared sauna.

“Patient is literally sweating out the toxins,” she said.

More importantly — as she outlines in her book ‘Diet Slave No More’ — Kogan said it’s important to eat foods that are balanced.

“Full of rainbow colored vegetables and fruits, and avoid focusing on one group,” she said.

Prolonged use of estrogen medications such as birth control pulls may also contribute to an increased level of copper in the body.

Several studies have shows that daily exposure to copper can lead to Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia.

  • “Trump’s CNN Tirade”. The moonbats have a funny way of looking at things, but we knew that already.

    http://nypost.com/2017/01/12/trumps-cnn-tirade-may-affect-time-warner-att-merger/

“Your organization is terrible,” Trump told CNN reporter Jim Acosta when he tried to ask a question during Wednesday’s news conference.

“Quiet, quiet,” Trump admonished when it was clear the journalist would not be chosen for a question.

As Acosta persisted, Trump said, “Don’t be rude.” When that didn’t work, Trump barked: “You are fake news.”

The confrontation grew from a controversial story CNN published Tuesday about Trump being presented at a Jan. 6 meeting with intelligence experts a two-page synopsis with allegations that Russian operatives claim to have compromising personal and financial information on the president-elect.

Both Trump and Russian authorities called the claims nonsense.

While Trump’s rebuke was stark enough, it came as his Justice Department will start to investigate the antitrust implications of AT&T’s $85 billion merger with Time Warner.

Trump said on the campaign trail that he wouldn’t approve the deal.

It was much debated in media circles if the press conference run-in would move the needle on Trump’s stance.

Some pondered whether Time Warner would have to sell off CNN to get the deal approved.

“If AT&T had to spin off CNN to get the deal approved, I suspect they would be willing to do so,” said analyst Craig Moffett of MoffettNathanson.

“Based on everything AT&T has said publicly, their principal interest is in Time Warner’s entertainment properties, not their news business.”

The AT&T acquisition which comes not long after a deal to acquire satellite TV provider DirecTV, will be scrutinized both by the House Judiciary Committee and by Justice.

“The CNN story puts an exclamation mark on the deal and what’s always been the biggest risk to this deal — political concerns in the White House,” Cowen & Co. analyst Paul Gallant, told The Post.

BuzzFeed, which published the document containing the alleged claims, came in for even harsher criticism from Trump.

“As far as BuzzFeed, which is a failing pile of garbage, writing it, I think they’re going to suffer the consequences,” Trump said.

  • One of the problems with repealing obamacare before it fails under it’s own weight is that we don’t get to see that happen, but if allowed to happen, no doubt that would be blamed on Republicans too, so I can see they’re in a typical bind concerning whether to fix it before it breaks all the way down or let it fail then replace it.

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2017/01/11/senate-begins-obamacare-repeal-process-all-night-voting-marathon/96447956/

After debating seven hours through the night, the Senate voted early Thursday to take the first real step toward repealing Obamacare — a top goal of congressional Republicans and President-elect Donald Trump.

Senators voted 51-48 to approve a budget resolution that Republicans will use as a vehicle to speed through repeal of the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare. House leaders plan to take it up Friday.

Senators began voting on 19 amendments to the resolution about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday before passing the budget measure about 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

Republicans said the 2010 health care law is broken and must be repealed and replaced with something better — although just what that replacement plan will look like has not yet been revealed by congressional leaders. Critics of the law cite sky-rocketing premiums, high deductibles and fewer health care choices for patients as insurers pull out of the program.

“When Obamacare’s supporters forced their partisan law on our country, they promised an easy-to-use system; one that would lower premiums and out-of-pocket health care costs; one that would foster choice and allow families to keep the plans and doctors they liked,” said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. “But it didn’t take long for the American people to discover the truth about Obamacare. Too many have been personally hurt by this law. Too many feel they’re worse off than they were before Obamacare.”

Democrats said repealing the law will strip millions of Americans of insurance, leave people with pre-existing medical conditions unable to find coverage, and increase the nation’s budget deficit by $353 billion over the next 10 years as the tax and fee provisions that pay for Obamacare are gutted.

“Ripping apart our health care system — with no plan to replace it — will create chaos,” said Sen. Patty Murray of Washington, the senior Democrat on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. “If Republicans repeal the Affordable Care Act, it’s women, kids, seniors, patients with serious illnesses, and people with disabilities who will bear the burden.”

“Premiums will skyrocket,” she continued. “Out-of-pocket prescription drug costs will rise. And overall health care costs will increase. It’s a perfect storm to make America sick again — and absolutely the wrong direction for families and for our economy.”

It’s funny but the claims made by Patty Murray at the end there are exactly what was already happening – prescription drug costs were already spiraling out of control due to government meddling. Overall health care costs have been rising since government got involved in the issue. Those who will not have coverage will be those who technically didn’t anyway, those who just let the IRS collect the fines. Those who want coverage, who feel being covered is a priority, will get it, will have it.

According to a four-year study published on Wednesday by researchers at the University of California Los Angeles and Loyola Marymount University, nearly half of the fish served at more than two dozen highly-rated sushi restaurants in the city is mislabeled.

“Half of what we’re buying isn’t what we think it is,” said Paul Barber, a UCLA professor who led the study published in the journal Conservation Biology.

“Fish fraud could be accidental, but I suspect that in some cases the mislabeling is very much intentional, though it’s hard to know where in the supply chain it begins.”

Homesmithing News: Printed Revolver, Easy Home Rifling
    http://weaponsman.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Imura-Works-revolver.jpg
Of course, this wouldn’t be that interesting if files weren’t available. But files are available — how ’bout that. The file pack includes not only the .stls that you need to print it out, but also assembly drawings that show how it all goes together.

Beyond Printing: The Steel Rifled Barrel

Of course, a printed pistol has its limits; we’ve seen a lot of better examples of homemade guns made from steel. In an austere or denied environment, raw steel will always be available, but one stumbling block many small and home machinists have encountered has been rifling a barrel. But it turns out, there is a high-throughput, benchtop way to do it: electro-chemical machining (ECM). You don’t need a big ECM machine: you can improvise with innocuous parts and chemicals (table salt!). This is the whole setup:
    http://weaponsman.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/ECM-rifling-setup-768×576.jpg
That particular barrel used a pentagonal 3D-printed mandrel, copper wires, and three rounds of 5 minutes in a saline solution with 6 volts and 6 amps running through the wires. The rifling is 5-thousandths deep. It’s not a target barrel, but it’s a process that will produce a legal and likely functioning rifled barrel. And you can experiment with it with just some steel tubing, a bucket, wires and a mandrel. This is the mandrel, with the copper machining wires attached.
    http://weaponsman.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/ecm-twisted-pentagonal-rifling-mandrel-768×576.jpg
The whole process is recounted on this imgur thread, including several earlier experiments before this last barrel was produced. These barrels are a proof of concept, not in any particular caliber or chambering at this time. So we’re a long way from making, say, AR barrels, but a Sten barrel is close.

You can’t ban guns. Make one problem difficult, and the community reacts to the damage by detouring around it. Short of lobotomizing the whole community, this is only going to grow from here.

Police Reveal Fears In National Survey

The Pew Research Center released results from the National Police Research Platform survey of 8,000 police officers and sheriff’s deputies. They were offered questions about attitudes and experiences of their work environment. “Do we feel we’re targeted right now? Yes,” said a 12-year veteran of the Dallas Police Department after a question about police safety. The question was posed after the release of the national survey. In one segment of questioning, 93 percent of polled officers surveyed said they were more concerned about their safety today than in the past.
