  13. Torcer says:

Leftist lore has it that socialist regimes of the past weren’t really socialist because the people didn’t collectively own the means of production.
    What’s that you say?
Governments are composed of the people collectively?
And that a government is merely a groups of people?
This is true, BUT according to at least some the national socialist left there is a difference…. Somehow…
Oddly enough, their little word play tends to absolve them of 500 years of Socialist mass murder, oppression and failure… but maybe just a coincidence…
Instead of a government collective (or group) of people in control.. i.e. against BIG government. Never the less, let us take them at their ‘word’ and assume that they are against big government.
So, let us help them in their endeavour and assist the formation of a ‘collective’ to battle the demons of BIG Government.
IF that is the case then perhaps they should form an organization to foster this belief
[most likely it could meet in a phone booth…]
We’ve developed a few possible names for this potential organization of Socialist against big government.

Here are some suggestions to start everyone off:

    Socialists/Communists Against Big State

    SCABS

    Marxists Against Massive Authoritarian States

    MAMAS Boys

  15. Torcer says:

For those who may not believe that there are socialists against BIG government:

    FAQ
Isn’t socialism what they had in Russia, or in China or Cuba, or in Sweden?
No. Socialism, as understood by the World Socialist Movement, was never established in any country. A short definition of what we understand to be socialism: a system of society based upon the common ownership and democratic control of the means and instruments for producing and distributing wealth by and in the interest of society as a whole.

If there are wages and salaries, it is not socialism.
    State ownership is not socialism.
    Social programs are not socialism.
Socialism means democracy at all levels of society, including the workplace.
Socialism means a wageless, moneyless society.
    Socialism means voluntary labour.
Socialism means free access to the goods produced by society.

With this understanding of socialism, the Socialist Party of Great Britain noted in its journal, the Socialist Standard (August 1918, page 87), that the supposedly “Marxist” Russian Revolution of November 1917 was not socialist.

    http://www.wcpo.com/news/local-news/hamilton-county/cincinnati/otto-warmbier-has-died-hospital-says

Otto Warmbier has died, University of Cincinnati Medical Center announced Monday.

Warmbier died at 2:20 p.m. Monday, days after he was released from captivity in North Korea. He was surrounded by family members at the time of his death, hospital officials said.

In a statement released by the hospital, family members said Warmbier had been unable to speak, see or react to verbal commands since his return to Cincinnati June 13.

“He looked very uncomfortable – almost anguished,” family members said. “Although we would never hear his voice again, within a day the countenance of his face changed – he was at peace. He was home and we believe he could sense that.”

Earlier, doctors treating Warmbier had said he suffered “severe neurological injury” and that he was in a state of “unresponsive wakefulness.”

Justices Strike Down Law Banning Disparaging Trademarks

In a decision likely to bolster the Washington Redskins’ efforts to protect its trademarks, the Supreme Court on Monday ruled that the government may not refuse to register potentially offensive names. A law denying protection to disparaging trademarks, the court said, violated the First Amendment.

The decision was unanimous, but the justices were divided on the reasoning.

The decision, concerning an Asian-American dance-rock band called the Slants, probably also means that the Washington Redskins football team will win its fight to retain federal trademark protection.

The law at issue in both cases denies federal trademark protection to messages that may disparage people, living or dead, along with “institutions, beliefs or national symbols.”

In 2015, a federal appeals court in Washington found the law’s disparagement provision unconstitutional in a case brought by the Slants. Writing for the majority in a 9-to-3 decision, Judge Kimberly A. Moore of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit said that while some of the rejected trademarks “convey hurtful speech that harms members of oft-stigmatized communities,” the First Amendment “protects even hurtful speech.”

Supreme Court decisions in recent years have protected offensive speech, including hateful protests at military funerals, depictions of animal cruelty and lies about military honors. More generally, the court said in 2015 in Reed v. Town of Gilbert that laws “that target speech based on its communicative content” were “presumptively unconstitutional.”

On the other hand, the Supreme Court has said that the First Amendment falls out of the analysis when the government is not acting as a censor, but is merely choosing what speech to adopt or support. In 2015, in a 5-to-4 decision in Walker v. Sons of Confederate Veterans, the court ruled that Texas could refuse to allow specialty license plates bearing the Confederate battle flag because the plates were the government’s speech and were thus immune from attacks on First Amendment grounds.

The Slants said they did not intend to disparage anyone. Instead, they said, they sought to adopt and reform a disparaging term about Asians, much as some gay people have embraced the term “queer.”

The government has applied the law inconsistently when faced with trademarks based on ethnic slurs. It has, for instance, both registered and rejected trademarks for the terms “Heeb,” “Dago,” “Injun” and “Squaw.”

47-year-old arrested on suspicion of murder and terror charges after one person died and ten were injured
White suspect yelled: ‘I’m going to kill all Muslims – I did my bit’ and smiled, waved and blew kisses at public
Imam and other worshippers pinned him down as he urged them to kill him but they kept him there until arrest
Muslims were leaving taraweeh, late night prayers observed during the festival of Ramadan when the van hit
Confirmed fatality is man who was receiving first aid from members of the public at a bus stop at the time
Police say incident is being treated as terror and praised ‘restraint’ of locals who arrested suspect at scene

I can understand, after all the terror events, an urge to strike back. But this was not the way. This was not an appropriate target, I would think.

Short answer to the question: No, just attempts to keep negative Trumpism in the news cycle, nothing more.

Well, maybe the fact that Mueller is hiring a bunch of rabid Democrat moonbat Obama/Clinton donors – that one might be a bit of a bombshell.

But most of the stories turn out to be fake news.

Carrie Fisher’s autopsy reveals cocktail of drugs, including cocaine, opiates and ecstasy

Fisher’s toxicology review found evidence of cocaine, methadone, MDMA (better known as ecstasy), alcohol and opiates when she was rushed to Ronald Reagan UCLA Hospital on Dec. 23, a toxicology report showed.

The test results “suggests there was an exposure to heroin, but that the dose and time of exposure cannot be pinpointed.” Therefore we cannot establish the significance of heroin regarding the cause of death in this case.”

The tests revealed that the cocaine would have been consumed within the previous 72 hours, according to the autopsy.

And based on these remarks, it’s probably time to disinvite this CNN reporter, who says the briefings given are a waste of time:

The White House press corps vented frustration Monday with press secretary Sean Spicer for conducting off-camera briefings in place of the usual publicly broadcast briefings.

Spicer conducted an off-camera briefing with reporters on Monday in which the press was told it could not film or broadcast audio of the proceedings. Spicer conducted the last on-camera briefing last Monday.

“The White House press secretary is getting to a point where he’s just kind of useless,” CNN White House reporter Jim Acosta said after the briefing. “If they’re getting to this point where he’s not going to answer questions or go on camera or have audio, why are we even having these briefings or gaggles in the first place?”

SANCTUARY STATE: State Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León today is expected to tout support from law enforcement for his Senate Bill 54, which would make all of California a so-called “sanctuary state.” A press conference is scheduled for 11 a.m. in Los Angeles.

Former U.S. Attorney Eric Holder and law enforcement officials, including Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck, Capt. James Beezley of the Sacramento Police Department and others, are expected to join De León.

“It’s not the job of our local and county and state law enforcement to turn the cogs of President Trump’s deportation machine,” de León said at a previous news conference on the bill.

Maybe not, but the job of law enforcement is to enforce the laws.
