Why is it that Bill Maher can call Sarah Palin a “locker room slang” word, can say sexually disparaging things about Michelle Bachman and the late night gap-toothed toad can make fun of a remark about Palin’s daughter being date raped and all is well and they don’t apoligize and and are not expected to apologize but Rush Limbaugh is dragged through the excrement and forced to apologize and loses sponsors? While I can’t condone what Limbaugh said, I feel he has every right to speak his mind and what comes to it, it’s his program. Damn the torpedoes. Perhaps a kinder word–bimbo–would have been better, but I doubt the dumbass liberals would have been happy with that word anyway. bobby, I think the far right should keep up the good work, focusing on issues important to women and letting them know exactly where they stand.

    So much for “peak oil”.

Estimates are almost always on the high end of the range. In-place oil is frequently overestimated, as is the amount which can be economically recovered. Sure, there might be 1.2 billion barrels which can be technically pumped, but past a certain point the well doesn’t produce enough to be worth the ongoing cost of operation.

Even if we take that number at face value, 1.2 billion barrels is a mere 14 days of world consumption. The world has to find a monster field like that every two weeks just to maintain current levels of consumption, let alone deliver the growing amount of energy demanded by developing nations. If the biggest Norwegian find since the 1980′s will get the world through another two weeks then we do have a lot to worry about.

Oil is a finite resource which is not renewed on human timescales, therefore, its production must eventually peak. The three operative questions are: when, at what price, and will we be ready for the transition by then?

The Left’s Favorite Racists Warm Up For Election 2012

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 13-year-old Kansas City boy is back home after two teenagers poured gasoline on him and lit him on fire.
It happened Tuesday at the teen’s home on Quincy Avenue, just down the street from Kansas City’s East High School. The boy lives less than two blocks away from the school and was walking home when the attack happened.

Melissa Coon said her son turned from the school’s stadium onto Quincy Avenue and noticed two teenagers following him. She said the teens followed her son home and attacked him outside his front door.
“And they rushed him on the porch as he tried to get the door open,” she said. “(One of them) poured the gasoline, then flicked the Bic, and said, ‘This is what you deserve. You get what you deserve, white boy’.”

    —————–
Typical of the lying left, this was not an issue brought up by the right. This was a deliberate election year ploy, a desperate one at that, intended to try to sway women to vote for Obama.

Sadly it may work, to some extent – but not among the educated. Unless they’re “activists” who are on “public interest scholarships”, of course.

For some time, and lao’s post is a great example, the left has been accusing the right of everything that’s true about them.

The left accuses the right of being frightened, for instance, but as the link states, the right is all for facing up to life and it’s responsibilities, standing up for oneself without expecting government to both hold your hand and issue never ending handouts.

And as usual lao’s posts are 180 degrees out of phase with reality. The Right wants women to be respected, not used as sex objects. The left is doing everything it can to encourage women to be sluts (as well as the men who seek them – yes, men can be sluts too, lao) while failing to accept responsibility for their choices and actions and, in many cases, making the ultimate mistake – deciding to murder their unborn baby.

Abortion doesn’t end after the woman leaves the clinic. The guilt stays with the woman FOR LIFE.

And lao and the left don’t care enough about women to make a stand.

If you want to expand the math to the whole Arctic, even using the rosiest of in-place numbers from the article, the Arctic is good for a mere three years of world consumption. Realists know a lot of that oil will be too expensive to recover to ever make it to market.

World population is growing rapidly as is the per capita oil consumption of each member of that rapidly growing population.

There is going to be a scramble for resources, and let me tell you, someone in China or India values the gas for his moped a lot more on a per-mile basis than does an American in an SUV. He’ll work a 10 hour day at $1.50/hr and pay $8/gal for gas. Will you?

Resources will come up short. Prepare accordingly.

Oil is a finite resource which is not renewed on human timescales, therefore, its production must eventually peak.

    —————

First, there are new theories that suggest oil may in fact be produced in ways not previously understood.

Second, “Peak Oil” was the myth based 100% on the political moves that cause American oil production to peak and decline. Government put in place blocks on exploration and recovery which have hobbled us for decades. The left adopts the mantra “there’s no point in drilling because it will take 10 years for anything found to come on line” except for the fact they’ve been saying that for over 40 years now.

Third, if we were allowed to explore and recover the oil we know is there we would not be dependent on our enemies and the whole geopolitical situation would shift drastically.

Fourth, you actually agreed with me about how the “peak oil” theory is incorrect when you used the future tense in describing how oil production would eventually peak then slowly decline. That is not what “peak oil” said. If you bother to go back to it, “peak oil” said we would run out some time ago and would be fighting over dwindling supplies today. Instead we have more proven reserves now than ever before. Production may be down (I don’t have today’s figures in front of me) but only because the world economy is stuttering due to the imposed socialism which is being used to attempt to discredit capitalism, GO FIGURE!

I don’t doubt that if our consumption continues to rise we will eventually reach a point of continual shortages. I’ve always supported RATIONAL attempts to develop and integrate alternative and renewable energy technologies and systems. I’ve been a strong backer of nuclear and hydroelectric as well.

Speaking of nuclear – did you hear?

Turns out the doomsayers who were predicting the end of the world due to Fukushima were as wrong as the AGW idiots. I’m not saying Fukushima wasn’t serious – it clearly was. I’m not saying it didn’t expose serious flaws in the way Japan did things and in some OLD, OUTMODED REACTOR DESIGNS as well as extremely poor site planning and complete lack of sensible backup plans. All these things are true, true, true. However, it wasn’t near as bad as the obamunists and their lapdog press made things out to be.

Peak oil has nothing to do with waking up and discovering that we’ve run out. The Hubbert peak theory describes a curve in which growing capital production from energy use causes a corresponding rise in demand for energy, until it is finally overtaken by a degradation of resources and increased cost of production.

Oil will become too expensive for most uses long before the wells run dry.

There’s a reason why we’re building deepwater platforms in the Arctic and roasting rocks to several hundred degrees rather than drilling down a few hundred feet on a Texas prairie.

Hubbert predicted the peak and decline of US oil production decades in advance, and well before any political conspiracy could choke it that badly.

The US did peak, and now we are hooked on foreign oil. Not even Reagan could reverse the peak because there is only so much oil which can be profitably pumped from the ground and only so fast any well can be pumped.

The Democrats are holding back production and killing energy jobs. We need to pump every barrel we can to help correct our trade imbalance and create sorely needed jobs. None of that will change the fact that US production has already peaked, nor that the world will be hitting terminal decline within the next decade or two (if not already).

There is a point in drilling because of the economic benefit it produces, however believing that simply issuing a lot of drilling permits can solve the problem is shortsighted, naive, and destructive to longer term solutions like nuclear.

Hubbert’s work is perhaps the best argument for next generation nuclear breeder reactors. Peak uranium and peak thorium are way further out.

Hubbert curves have just as much to do with how society makes use of capital-creating resources as how those resources are actually extracted.

    Lao,
The Republicans did not agree to hear testimony from Ms. Fluke for two reasons: (1)She did not file a request to be heard within the proper timeframe; (2) More importantly, the hearing was about the First Amendment’s freedom of religion clause, NOT about reproductive “rights”.
The Democrat dog and pony show at which Fluke spoke (claiming to be a 23 year old coed when in fact she is a 30 year old professional activist/student)was nothing more than the standard “juke and jive” method of misdirecting the issue at hand.

I note that in the middle of the 20th century, coal was displaced as the home heating fuel of choice in the US, replaced largely by natural gas. It appears that this transition didn’t need to be directed or subsidized by the government. People just converted to a cleaner, more convenient form of energy through the free market.

The free market is the only rational way to determine how our future energy needs will be met.

  • chuck in st paul

    AC,
who cares what ‘world consumption’ is? All this oil is for us, not them. That’s just another one of your strawman arguments you continually use here.

We need to build 50 new refineries, frack the heck out of the shales, drill drill drill, and build 150 new nukes. With our cousins up North we can be energy independent in ten years or less with cheap reliable home-grown energy. Our biggest “foreign” suppliers are Canada and Mexico not the Middle East.

  • Robert Peahl

Just a couple of points to back up SeaFoamGreen’s allusion to abiotic oil.
From Science Daily, 12 Sep. 2009: Swedish researchers have simulated conditions of pressure and heat found in the inner layers of the Earth; the process yielded hydrocarbons.
No fossil evidence has ever been found deeper than 18,000 feet. Yet Russia (which recently overtook Saudi Arabia as the world’s largest oil producer) has 310 operating wells at more than twice this depth.
NASA reports Titan has more hydrocarbons than all of Earth’s combined known resources. Were dinosaurs and plants once living on Titan?
Unfortunately I don’t have source material for this, but evidence from wells in China and Russia suggests that some have “refilled” after being exhausted.

chuck in st paul is saying what the f**k the world – and most conservatives – need to hear.

With all humility, this is our court!…..take your G*damn ball and go home!

We are the only country in the history of mankind who has consistently bled and sacrificed progeny for other people’s freedoms; our soldiers (i.e. our beloved treasure) give their heart and soul and lives to give other individuals the basic concept of individuality and self determination; America has been and is the light-bearer, leading individuals away from the darkness of what history calls oppression.

America doesn’t hurt the world, America empowers the world.

Has Kenya saved anyone? Has Venezuela given people hope? Has a Tibetan army foiled terrorism? Does the world rush to any of those places to be free?

America has to get up off it’s spindly Bradley Manning legs (correction: powder puff knees!) and exert it’s marvelous, powerful, generous, free-spirited, and inspirational leadership to once again guide the world into the future.

This is the issue which will win an overwhelming victory…..cogently and cohesively putting together social and economic issues. We have the power (literally, figuratively, and spiritually) to mine our resources and put America back in charge.

No one loves the world and gives more than America.

    Where is the f**king leadership?????????????

Back to the Ms. Fluke kurfuffel and advertisers leaving Rush’s show. Turns out that Mr. David Friend of Carbonite.com donates money to MoveOn.Org and the Ed Shulz Show. From the American Spectator:

Now. Carbonite really deserves some special attention.

David Friend is making his attack on Rush sound like he’s one upset Dad with a couple of nice young daughters. And oh, yes, he wants a “more civilized public discourse.”
Is that all there is to Mr. Friend? Quite aside that he gives a pass to Sandra Fluke for her obnoxiously intolerant behavior when it comes to the free speech of others, is there anything else going on here?

    Yes. Of course.

Take a look here at this link to Bloomberg/Business Week whichprofiles Mr. Friend and affirms him as “General Partner” of an investment group called “Orchid Partners” in Boston, Massachusetts. And Orchid Partners? Yes indeed, they are the venture capital firm behind… Carbonite.
Where Mr. Friend is listed as “Co-Founder, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President.”
    So?

So when you cross check Mr. David Friend of Orchid Partners in Boston with the Federal Election Commission, one finds — ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh shocker!……… that a Mr. David Friend of Orchid Partners in Boston has been a contributor to… ready? Here’s the list of just where David Friend spends his political money:
MoveOn.org, America Coming Together and Democracy for America, all three listed here as George Soros funded groups, the latter set up by Howard Dean. Texans for Truth also drew Mr. Friend’s support. This group, according to Wikipedia, was set up by MoveOn.org spin-off Drive Democracy.org in 2004. Why? To… wait for it… challenge then-President Bush’s service in the Texas National Guard. The precise same stunt for which CBS fired Dan Rather after documents were discovered to have been forged. The Bush-Cheney campaign said of Texans for Truth that it was “a smear group launching baseless attacks on behalf of John Kerry’s campaign that will be rejected by the American people.” They were. But that didn’t quench Mr. Friend’s affection for either the smear campaign or supporting leftist candidates such as Howard Dean, and John Kerry.

And get a load of this. Take a look right here at Ed “Laura Ingraham is a slut” Schultz’s site for his radio show. Who is listed as a Schultz sponsor? That’s right: Carbonite. Like Rush Limbaugh, Ed Schultz apologized. The difference? If Rush uses the word “slut” to illustrate the absurdity of the left-wing Sandra Fluke’s views — David Friend is outraged. But when Ed Schultz refers in hostile fashion out of the blue to conservative and Catholic Laura Ingraham as a “slut” — hey, no big deal for Carbonite.
In other words, to put it politely, Mr. Friend’s woe-is-me I’m-withdrawing-my-company’s sponsorship-from-Rush Limbaugh-because of-my-lovely-daughters is as close to certifiable BS as one can imagine. Mr. Friend, one can only suspect, placed Carbonite’s ads with Rush Limbaugh because he knew it would make him money — which he obviously then funneled to MoveOn and the rest. Meanwhile, he keeps advertising on the Ed Slut Show… sorry… Ed Schultz Show. His daughters? His daughters? What a deeply cynical man.
Not to mention Friend’s chutzpah calling for a “more civilized public discourse” when he is busy contributing to MoveOn.org, the self-same group that put together this charming video comparing George W. Bush to Hitler. Not to mention MoveOn’s “Bush Lied” routine. This is pathetic.

  • Sam Adams

Care to provide a quote of those remarks TUP?

The progressive left is engaged in an effort to infringe the religious freedom of others. No one forced Fluke to attend a Catholic University. She knew, going in, that she wouldn’t get subsidized birth control there in the insurance plan because it goes against fundamental tenants of Catholics. However, she wishes to spread her intolerance against those who don’t share her beliefs.

Religious beliefs are a civil right.
    Contraception is not a right.
Subsidized contraception is not a right.
Lao, you are clearly intolerant of those who don’t share your beliefs, and you are promoting your agenda of infringing on the rights of others.

  • Sam Adams

Lao is a hypocrite, going on and on about one conservative using the word “slut” while remaining silent over the repeated used of the term against conservative women by those on the left.

Lao, how many times has Ann Coulter been called a slut?
How many times has the term being used against Laura Ingrham or Sarah Palin?

You are a double-standered hypocrite….not uncharacteristic for your ilk.

    lao:

This Fluke person is perfectly entitled to go in front of a government panel and demand that the American people become her sugar daddy. That’s totally fine. What’s obnoxious and intolerant is to then accuse Rush Limbaugh of misogyny and sexism for calling a spade a spade and reminding everyone that a woman who wants you to pay for her sexual escapades is commonly referred to as a prostitute/whore/painted maypole/etc.

It’s in the dictionary. Look it up.

If she wants me to pay for her contraception, then the LEAST she can do is provide documented video evidence that she is using that contraception herself and isn’t dealing it on the side for some black market moolah. How else are we going to cutdown on contraception fraud? But nooooo. She and her sycophants go all psychotic and start accusing me and others of wanting her to make a “sex tape.” I don’t want a “sex tape.” I want to know that my hard-earned tax dollars are being used correctly and effectively! And I want to know that the Catholic institutions forced to provide contraception are forfeiting their religious freedom for at least a few good o-gasms.

Honestly, if contraception is SO EXPENSIVE, yet this Fluke person can afford a $50,000 a year Georgetown education, my only assumption is that she can afford to buy contraception herself and only intends to take the government-paid contraception and peddle it on the street to those who CAN’T afford $9 a month. Why are you enabling black market drug trafficking, lao?

And frankly I question her claim that she’s a Georgetown student. How can anyone remain in law school if — judging by the math required to meet their contraceptive costs — that person must spend EVERY WAKING MINUTE having sex? Most people who spend that much time on their back are six feet underground. Unless she’s peddling extra contraceptives to poor people on the street who can’t afford $9 a month, as mentioned above. Again, why are you enabling black market drug trafficking, lao?

I think the leftist outrage over this whole thing is hilarious. Rush is the best. I wish I had a Carbonite account JUST so I could cancel it!

That’s right, Lao, because Fluke is engaged in trampling religious freedom, which comes even before free speech in the First Amendment. But you don’t care about that part of the First Amendment.

And we see a concerted effort by those on the left to get rid of Limbaugh’s radio broadcast by influencing his advertisers…trying to duplicate their efforts against Glenn Beck.

Ironic thing is that conservative women, such as those I’ve named, have done nothing to justify being called sluts or worse. Any evidence that they have been sleeping around? Are they asking others to subsidize an immoral lifestyle? Any unwed pregnancies among the group?

A liberal woman, who is actively advocating for free or subsidized birth control…who is unmarried….who apparently has no medical reason to need female hormones to treat a medical condition…who apparently only wants free birth control because it is too expensive for her, and without this subsidized birth control her personal life will be negatively impacted….who would otherwise be forced to work all summer simply to pay for birth control, let alone the cost of tuition and law books and food and all…bares all the hallmarks of a woman who wishes to engage in sex without consequence, aka, a woman of questionable morals, aka a woman who wishes to provide her sexual favors to others…
and she is called a “slut” and you are up in arms?

  • StanInTexas

Loa, this is from Fluke’s testimony…

Without insurance coverage, contraception can cost a woman over $3,000 during law school. For a lot of students who, like me, are on public interest scholarships, that’s practically an entire summer’s salary.

Yes, she was talking about herself.

  • Sam Adams

    ___________

As you so correctly point out, to use all these contraceptives, Fluke would be spending a lot of time outside of the classroom.

The woman claims to already be on a public interest scholarship. We are paying for her schooling. We want her to be a successful lawyer, rather than a successful slut. As a result, by not subsidizing her contraceptive costs, she will end up spending more time in the classroom, making better use of the public funds she is already receiving.

On the other hand, if she still presses on with her desire for subsidized contraceptives, one must conclude that she wishes to spend her time in places other than the classroom. I have changed my mind; subsidize her $3000 contraceptive bill, and keep the $150,000 in scholarship money. Spend it on someone who will want to spend time in the classroom.

Which goes to show stanwee, that even YOU, who has admitted getting himself banned from a RIGHT wing site, can post on HuffPo.

  • StanInTexas

First, it is a HUGE stretch to claim that RightWingNews is a Right Wing site.

Second, HuffPo/DU/Kos routinely and proudly ban anyone and anything they even SUSPECT of being Conservative.

  • FrankW

Fluke may not have said anything about her own activity, but she did take it upon herself to be the voice of the females that can not get unlimited amounts of contraception (for recreational sex) at no cost to themselves. Since the others chose not to testify she is acting as their avatar. And thus any vitriol is being directed correctly.
As far as Limbaugh’s commentary goes, maybe his words were a bit graphic, but his method was illustrating absurdity by being absurd. I would ask if libs honestly believed he was advocating her making sex tapes, but libs are so disingenuous that the response is predictable. And if they honestly believe that I have some oceanfront property in western Kansas I would like to sell. So for those of us on planet Earth, the answer is no, he was not seriously advocating a career in porno for her.
So basically if she was not talking of her own experience, then at best what she had to say was heresay. Why would anybody not offering firsthand testimony be allowed to testify to congress? The only possible reason she was allowed to speak was political. Lets add this up a bit. Activist with liberal degree, plus congressional committee with obvious political slant = dog and pony show (oops that would be the “bestiality as a religious organization” hearing).
And what is with all of the civility lao? Where were you when it was suggested by libs Michelle Malkin should be raped?

Jock #1: [holds up a beer] You want a brewdog?
Womynist #1: We’re not interested in your penis!
Womynist #2: Wait, wait, I think he’s offering us a beer.
    [turns to jock, speaks slowly]
Womynist #2: Um… Yes. We, would like, a beer.
    Jock #1: Okay!
[turns around to get a beer]
Womynist #1: So it’s like, if you’re nice to them, they *bring* you things?
    Womynist #2: Exactly.

Did it never don on her to get the guys she is copulating with to buy her birth control. Horny guys will do a lot to get what they want. Women like Ms. Fluke have simply been fooled into lowering the bar of their personal integrity and told that that is progress.

The Evil of Censoring Black Crime

I have frequently posted articles relating to the bias of the mainstream media when it comes to reporting incidents involving racial violence and hate crimes, which raises the question of whether commenting on black racism constitutes white racism.

I think not, although the MSM would beg to differ and unless propaganda now trumps honesty.

Various members of the MSM have even admitted their censorship of news and defended the practice on the theory that they are preserving social harmony by selectively editing news stories, not publishing the whole truth, or by totally ignoring racist crimes.

In fact, they are instilling a distrust of all media on the part of those aware of the censorship–as well as shirking their journalistic responsibility and subverting journalistic ethics.

Last week, yet another blatant instance of racially-inspired hatred occurred in Kansas City, Missouri although, based on the coverage the story has received, few people will ever hear of it.

A 13 year old, white, eighth-grade boy was heading home from classes at Kansas City’s East High School two blocks away. He almost made it safely.

He was followed by two older, black males who, according to his mother, may have been students at East Hills. They accosted him on his doorstep, poured gasoline on him and set him ablaze.

He managed to extinguish the flames but suffered first degree burns on his face and possible injury to his lungs and eyes and spent hours in a hospital burn unit.

The attack was horrendous enough, the media coverage almost worse.

The boy’s mother told police that one of the assailants said, “This is what you deserve. You get what you deserve, white boy. . .

From the article I linked to:

As a student at Cornell and treasurer of a pro-choice organization at the school, Sandra Fluke, helped shut down a pro-life speech on Cornell’s campus by counter protesting. She argued that a pro-life organization at Cornell was about “manipulating [students'] emotions” with misleading statistics about abortion. But when it is her turn to speak on Capitol Hill, the third-year Georgetown Law Student demands she gets her say in a hearing that has nothing to do with birth control.
Well, well, well. So Sandra Fluke has a record of denying free speech to others? In addition to giving a pass to Mr. Ed on the slut business? Free speech for Sandra Fluke but not Rush Limbaugh or those pro-lifers at Cornell? Interesting, yes? Hypocritical and thuggish, definitely. She also walked out in protest of the congressional hearing where supporters of religious liberty were allowed to speak. It turns out, as reported here, that Fluke is no struggling law student — she’s already a professional far-left genderist, long deeply into the leftist scam of judging others by skin color or gender.

Funny that lao uses Don Imus as some kind of spokesman to speak against Rush. As a conservative Christian, I can honestly say that I have never felt like-minded with Don Imus.

I have; however, long felt like-minded with Rush Limbaugh. I believe that history will show that he is truly “on loan from God”. Rush has been blessed with great knowledge and a medium to pass it on to us.

Whenever we hear this “selective outrage” from the left against Rush, it’s ALWAYS exaggerated and often taken out of context. I laughed and felt a bit vindicated when he called the woman a slut. I knew at the time that the left would feign outrage, but I also had the comfort of thinking that this would probably make Rush stronger and EVEN more popular.

Are We Being Fair To Rush Limbaugh?

Point 1: Even by the rough standards of cable/talk radio/digital talk, Limbaugh’s verbal abuse of Sandra Fluke set a new kind of low.

Point 2: The cases that conservatives cite as somehow equivalent to Limbaugh’s tirade against Fluke by and large did bring consequences for their authors.

Point 3: Limbaugh’s place in American public life is in no way comparable to that of David Letterman, Bill Maher or Ed Schultz.

Point 1: Even by the rough standards of cable/talk radio/digital talk, Limbaugh’s verbal abuse of Sandra Fluke set a new kind of low.

I note that Limbaugh’s remarks could be repeated on any radio or TV station without editing. Can’t say that for many of the left’s comments (Bill Maher comes to mind).

Point 2: The cases that conservatives cite as somehow equivalent to Limbaugh’s tirade against Fluke by and large did bring consequences for their authors.

Limbaugh has lost a few sponsors, no doubt due to an effort orchestrated by the left. Losing sponsors are the biggest consequences that can be brought.

Point 3: Limbaugh’s place in American public life is in no way comparable to that of David Letterman, Bill Maher or Ed Schultz.

True enough. People expect reason, logic, and supported argument from Limbaugh. We know what they get from the left.

Point 4: Most fundamentally, why the impulse to counter one outrageous stunt by rummaging through the archives in search of some supposedly offsetting outrageous stunt?

Because the left is populated by such hypocrites, Lao. The left believes that one “I’m sorry” should cover a world of sins and slights when offered, however insincerely, by those on the left. Limbaugh apologizes on two separate occasions and the left continues to be outraged.

Part of the problem is that the left has no sense of humor, especially about themselves. Satire is lost on them. Is Sandra Fluke a prostitute? She’s in law school; I’d call that “case closed.” Is she a slut? Our information is incomplete, but anyone who is advocating for free birth control on behalf of herself and her friends is libel to be judged by what she is asking for and what kind of lifestyle such a request represents. Inflating the cost of contraceptives to $1,000 per year means that she deserves to be mocked for such an outrageous number, and what it implies. It is like requesting 10,000 gallons of free gas per year, but insisting that you are not going to drive around a lot.

By the way, you missed the major points I was making:

    In Lao-World:
Apologies from those on the left are always sincere and should be accepted, with zero judgement.

Those on the left have no standards, therefore they can’t be held to any standards. Only those on the right can be criticized for the comments or lifestyle choices they make.

If a guy like Rush apologizes, do not, ever, accept what he has said. Punish him as long and as bitterly as possible.

Those on the left do not understand either sarcasm or humor. I can’t think of a single attorney who I wouldn’t call a prostitute. There are maybe one or two politicians that I wouldn’t call a prostitute.

And a girl who has sex outside of marriage is a woman of questionable morals, aka a loose woman, aka one of the girls that the football team talks about, aka a fornicator. One that advocates for free contraceptives so that she and her friends won’t be burdened by the high cost of contraceptives….OK, Lao; what would you call them. Lao,
Sorry for the delay in reponding to your post. I will do a mea culpa and state that the reference to Fluke’s age came from an article written by a female Georgetown student who disagreed with Ms. Fluke (at the obviously right wing collegeconservative website).
I may have misinterpreted her writing as she said in speaking of Ms. Fluke “she’s not a 23 year old coed, but a 30 year old activist.”
And activist she is. She is a past president of LSRJ (Law Students for Reproductive Justice) at Georgetown.
Having read her testimony, I still fail to be impressed with her, however. Her anecdotal evidence seems to at times be, shall we say, requiring a suspension of disbelief? She states that female students at Georgetown are so convinced the University doesn’t care about women’s healthcare that “a woman who was raped didn’t bother to report it or get any tests for STD’s because of the University policy.”
The good news is her 15 minutes are just about up, and we can move on to this week’s “crisis”!

  • lao

Thanks Robert for acknowledging that the theme, promoted on a number of right wing sites, of the 30 year old Fluke supposedly misrepresenting her age as being 23 is phony.

Sandra Fluke, Gender Reassignment, and Health Insurance

Sandra Fluke is being sold by the left as something she’s not. Namely a random co-ed from Georgetown law who found herself mixed up in the latest front of the culture war who was simply looking to make sure needy women had access to birth control. That, of course, is not the case.

As many have already uncovered Sandra Fluke she is, in reality, a 30 year old long time liberal activist who enrolled at Georgetown with the express purpose of fighting for the school to pay for students’ birth control. She has been pushing for mandated coverage of contraceptives at Georgetown for at least three years according to the Washington Post.

However, as I discovered today, birth control is not all that Ms. Fluke believes private health insurance must cover. She also, apparently, believes that it is discrimination deserving of legal action if “gender reassignment” surgeries are not covered by employer provided health insurance. She makes these views clear in an article she co-edited with Karen Hu in the Georgetown Journal of Gender and the Law.

The title of the article, which can be purchased in full here, is Employment Discrimination Against LGBTQ Persons and was published in the Journal’s 2011 Annual Review. I have posted a transcript of the section I will be quoting from here. In a subsection of the article entitled “Employment Discrimination in Provision of Employment Benefits” starting on page 635 of the review Sandra Fluke and her co-editor describe two forms of discrimination in benefits they believe LGBTQ individuals face in the work place:

“Discrimination typically takes two forms: first, direct discrimination limiting access to benefits specifically needed by LGBTQ persons, and secondly, the unavailability of family-related benefits to LGBTQ families.”

Their “prime example” of the first form of discrimination? Not covering sex change operations:

“A prime example of direct discrimination is denying insurance coverage for medical needs of transgender persons physically transitioning to the other gender.”

This so called “prime example” of discrimination is expounded on in a subsection titled “Gender Reassignment Medical Services” starting on page 636:

“Transgender persons wishing to undergo the gender reassignment process frequently face heterosexist employer health insurance policies that label the surgery as cosmetic or medically unnecessary and therefore uncovered.”

To be clear, the argument here is that employers are engaging in discrimination against their employees who want them to pay for their sex changes because their “heterosexist” health insurance policies don’t believe sex changes are medically necessary.

Additionally Sandra Fluke and her co-editor have an answer for why exactly these “heterosexist” insurance policies, and the courts that side with them, deem sex changes as medically unnecessary:

“In Mario v. P & C Food Markets, Inc., an employee who was denied such coverage brought claims under the federal Employee Retirement Income Security (ERISA) and Title VII. The court rejected the ERISA claim, finding the plaintiff’s mastectomy and hormone therapy were not medically necessary. The court’s ruling was based upon controversy within the medical community regarding that treatment plan. Much of that controversy has been linked to ignorance and bias against transgender persons, and the American Medical Association has declared the lack of coverage to be discrimination.”

You see, all opposition to the determination that sex changes are medically necessary, and therefor must be covered by private employer provided health insurance, is based on “ignorance and bias against transgender persons”.

The section on discrimination against those seeking gender reassignment ends with Sandra Fluke and her co-editor wondering why more lawsuits aren’t filed against private employers on these grounds. Especially in comparison to the frequency with which these types of cases are filed against Medicare, Medicaid, and even the prison system:

“The reason for this lack of cases is unclear. Private employee insurance plans do not more frequently cover this need, so it may be a sign that transgender employees do not see the courts as likely to provide any assistance against private employers.”

The argument made in this article edited by Sandra Fluke and Karen Hu is quite clear. “Gender reassignment” is a medically necessary set of procedures that must be covered under employee provided health insurance policies. If it is not covered by those policies that is tantamount to discrimination and legal action should be taken against the employer.

So, as you can see, Sandra Fluke is not what she is being sold as. Instead she is a liberal activist pushing some rather radical ideas. Keep that in mind as the left holds her up in the spotlight.

So the outrage of lao was based on our misinterprtation of her age? Ok we apologize for the commentary insuating she was a 23 year old, money grabbing, liberal, activist, slut. She really was a 30 year old, money grabbing, liberal, activist, slut.
Actually this makes it easier. At 30 she no longer has the naivety of youth as a reason for outrage concerning the comments or as a potential reason for her decision to participate in the liberal floor show (two drink minimum required, no touching the dancers). This means she is an attention/media whore (one who takes compensation for certain actions). Actually she got paid. For a liberal activist getting noticed by Limbaugh was like hitting the lottery. She will be a poster critter for planned parenthood for the next year. She is being wined and dined by the liberal elite. And she got a call from the grand poohbah of libs, bammy.

frankie goes simplistic…again, and, of course, he continues the slurs that the oh-so-honorable Limbaugh “apologized” for.

Fluke supposedly claiming she was 23 was a non issue – except for the right.

Google it to see who tried to make something of it, the often-quoted weasel zippers for example.

The age was almost immaterial, yet lao repeatedly used it as a point of emphasis. What real significance does having the age correct bring to the discussion?
And simplicity is the epitome of excellence. Complicated just makes things difficult unnecessarily. Maybe she is a slut, maybe not, don’t know, don’t care. My point of emphasis was never her sluttiness or lack thereof. What she is is an opportunist being paid with exposure and the adulation of the liberal mass. As an activist this is her Superbowl.

  • lao

frankie, use your noodle. My supposed “repeatedly used it as a point of emphasis” happened @6:58 am. Period.

    And 8:37 and 6:28.
