Prof Analyzes Disney Movies, Concludes That We Must Purge Humanity of “Corporate-Barbaric Masculinity”

Just because Disney owns ESPN, which it uses as a Trojan Horse to insidiously infuse sports with ultra-left politics, does not mean that it is totally pure of thought crime. Politics professor Bryant Sculos of Florida International University has found “toxic masculinity” in its Beauty and Beast. From an actual abstract that appeared in the scholarly journal Class, Race and Corporate Power:

This essay reflects on how Disney’s (1991) animated classic Beauty and the Beast and the (2017) live-action remake differentially treat social responsibility, with respect to the various side characters and communities represented, for the toxic masculinity exhibited by its most prominent male characters, Gaston and the Beast.

Our tax dollars subsidize this stuff.

Looks like someone at Campus Reform managed to read the whole essay:

Sculos goes on to argue that just as the villagers all bear some responsibility for the Beast, so do we “all bear responsibility for the evils of a system that produces such noteworthy villains,” describing Gaston as “Martin Shkreli Mixed with Donald Trump.” …

“The more we fuel a society that demands a capitalistic mentality that privileges the commodification of life and life-sustaining goods and services, masculinity will continue to be a toxic manifestation,” he declares…

“We need ‘men’ to become human, perhaps not again but for the first time in history on a mass scale,” Sculos concludes. “It is not masculinity that needs to purged of its toxicity, but rather it is humanity that needs to be purged of the toxicity of corporate-barbaric masculinity.”

Not even the mighty Soviet Union could purge all of humanity of “the toxicity of corporate-barbaric masculinity.” But on college campuses, the dream lives on.

Kinda wondering if Bryant got degree out of a gumball machine.

Disney was PC even in ’91, too…

  • MAS

We need to purge Disney along with the rest of leftist Hollywood. Then government education K-PHD. Then government in general. Perhaps start mandatory military service while at it…

We actually need more positive “toxic masculinity”… like heroism left/libtards hate:

We all bear some responsibility for pin-heads like Bryant Sculos.

  • We’ll get right on the toxic masculinity problem as soon as we can take care of this fetid feminism that is now spreading to beta male cucks like Bryant.

Without Gaston and company, the Beast would have been the villain, as he was holding Belle as a hostage for her father’s trespass.

Scriptwriters, they kinda set up the whole thing… wonder if Sculos realized (gosh!) it’s fiction!

Not enough testosterone to pick up a hammer.

Not only Sculos but the other pussified girliemen (men?) as well.

Hey Professor! (If you really ARE a “Professor”) If you really want to get rid of masculinity show us how. I’ve got a nice razor sharp K-Bar knife that my son gave me as a Birthday gift that I’ll lend you so you can rid yourself of YOUR “barbaric masculinity.”

I also work for a medical supply warehouse, I can provide you with the bandages and clotting agents you’re gonna need.

Over at Google Scholar, he’s been tagged with “Critical Theory Marxism Cosmopolitanism” Big shock, I know.

Oh, and in case anybody really needed confirmation, Sculos himself is mercifully free of any and all “toxic masculinity.”

I don’t think that anyone needs to worry about toxic masculinity at the PolySci department of FIU.

Read his words and hear his real complaint. He’s a Participation Trophy Culture Pimp.

He knows he’d get curb stomped out here in the real world of competition for wealth and achievement so he wants to throttle the natural competitiveness of males so the lazy and incompetent can have the grand life for just existing. The jealousy just oozes out of him.

This is why a great majority of Millennials think socialism is going to be so wonderful and why they whine and stomp their feet demanding “tax the rich (and give it to me).” They’ve been raised in the participation trophy atmosphere that sucks the life out of people and turns them into drones.

Prof. Sculos has missed the point of the movie. Gaston and the Beast both start as arrogant, self centered, boorish fools. By imprisoning Belle’s father, the Beast did violate the rules of hospitality, but to a large extent that the wrong was due to the shame of his foulness being exposed. In the movie Belle is a rather snobbish, pseudointellectual that is doomed to a lonely life of spinsterhood.
By being transformed along with his enabler servants the Beast was given an opportunity and motivation to grow and change. Gaston had no such motivation.
Belle, by redeeming her father, was given an opportunity to become more outgoing and to accept and sympathize with others even if they were very different than herself. By risking his life to protect Belle from the wolves the Beast began his transformation to a decent human being. Both she and the Beast grew and matured during the movie and transformed into far better persons as a result.
Gaston, on the other hand, had no incentive to change. He became more arrogant, more self centered, and actually evil rather than boorish. By having Bell’s father imprisoned in the mad house as a means to force Belle to marry him he descended into rape and by raising the mob against the Beast he tried to commit murder. All three characters transformed themselves, two for the better, one for the worse.
The story goes back at least 4,000 years, although the modern version started at least by the mid XVIII century, possibly to help prepare young girls for the realities of arranged marriages.
The professor needs to fit his description to the facts, not force it to support his theory. Fairy tales that last that long have an underlying truth to support them.

Although I am not an expert on pre modern dress I would guess the illustration is of an XV century gentleman. A gentleman of that period would be well trained in the gentlemanly arts which would include firearms, swords, horsemanship and command. Take the original lightly at your peril, if insulted he would and could kill you.

We need to purge our society of progressive liberal snowflake SJW’s like him. He’s the problem.

Couldn’t have summed it up better myself ICE. Indeed these clowns are a product of the participation trophy generation. These morons live in a bubble at their universities – none of them have ever held a real job their entire lives, they don’t understand competition. All they know is being a student or being a professor. Meanwhile they insult everything that made the United States great because deep down inside they know they couldn’t make outside of their bubble – they couldn’t make it in a competitive environment, so they promote socialism and they justify their position by portraying all competition as racist or the result of “toxic masculinity” both ideas in which they would fail miserably.. These male professors that preach this garbage are puny little failures when they step outside of their bubble and they hate it – it’s no fair to them, so of course their solution to that is to brainwash students to believe guys like them are “real men”, while blaming all the worlds problems on white males….. And they push socialism because in their socialist fantasy THEY would be the ones in charge – socialism to them is a delusion and universities are nothing more than a set for a role playing game….. Of course this is why these kids are so messed up, because they’ve been brainwashed to believe anything traditional is automatically racist or sexist so students are encouraged to embrace ideas and lifestyles that are the opposite of traditionalism – which is degeneracy and socialism…

IMO, these nutbars only embrace this due to their hatred of traditionalism.
