Carbonite Stock Goes Into Tailspin Following Abandonment of Rush Limbaugh

Bailing on El Rushbo was not a wise move on the part of the weasels running Carbonite.

CEO David Friend proved to be no friend of Rush or his legions of listeners when the absurd Sandra Fluke kerfuffle inspired him to proclaim:

“Even though Mr. Limbaugh has now issued an apology, we have nonetheless decided to withdraw our advertising from his show. We hope that our action, along with the other advertisers who have already withdrawn their ads, will ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse.”

Whatever effect this sniveling cowardice has on public discourse, here’s the effect it has had on Carbonite’s stock price Monday through Tuesday:

Carbonite stock (NASDAQ:CARB) has plummeted nearly 12 percent, outpacing the drop of the NASDAQ index in that same time period by nine-and-a-half points.

Couldn’t happen to a more deserving company. Equally deserving former sponsors who participated in the Left’s attempt to hush Rush include:

• Sleep Train
• Sleep Number
• Legal Zoom
• Citrix
• Quicken Loans
• Pro-Flowers

Doug Ross has contact info for enraged listeners who want to let them know why their products are now less popular.

This is wonderful news to me – for several reasons. First, because I LOVE Rush. No ifs, ands, or buts about that!

Second, because I never understood why someone would trust Carbonite with the contents of their computers. I thought people were worried about identity theft. Why would they pay for the privilege of downloading everything onto Carbonite’s site?

Besides, at this point, there’s nothing to stop Obama from signing an executive order and gaining access to all of that information.

    Dive baby dive!

  • StanInTexas

Carbonite CEO David Friend is not just a coward but a hypocrite. He still continues to atvertise on MSNBC and Ed Schultz show, who has done more to destroy “a more civilized public discourse” than nearly anyone on TV.

People are cheering that Rush Limbaugh is seeing the consequences for his daring to think he had free speech. Well, looks like Carbonite is seeing that as well!

My wife and I obtained our Last Will and Testament through Legal Zoom. 2 months later, we had unauthorized charges show up on our credit card. We had to contact Legal Zoom a couple of times to resolve this issue. After my wife was harassed by one of their service reps, I grabbed the phone and went total Jerky Boy on the guy — Frank Rizzo style, before he agreed to remove the charges. Unbelievable.

  • FrankW

I guess the antics of ows do not have the same impact as just selling stock.

  • Scott Gary

Wow! Guess their ad pulling decision could summed up with “DOH!”

I only know of one person, first hand, who subscribed to Carbonite. He said the internet upload speed of his data was so brutally slow, it would take weeks for it to finish. He cancelled.

  • StanInTexas

Frank, do you mean to tell me that LAWYERS were doing something that was not entirely legal or ethical?

    Say It Ain’t SOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

  • Beef

The CEO of Carbonite, David Friend, is a big supporter of Obama and of groups like MoveOn.org. He donated to the execrable “Texans for Truth” smear organization that was created to find/create evidence that Bush went AWOL from the National Guard. Don’t patronize Carbonite.

There is a good opportunity right now for another online data backup service to pitch to conservatives….

  • Winston Smith

And they want you to hand them all the data on your computer for “Safe Keeping”? Thats like letting a pack of wolves baby sit your children.

I order this company frozen in Carbonite for 1 Thousand – no – 1 MILLION years!

  • Heltau

Mr. Limbaugh is now explaining about how the advertisers do what they do. And how some of them that actually left him are BEGGING to come back. I bet one of them is carbonite. I wonder if Mr. Limbaugh will let them back into the money making EIB family. I hope not. This would be another mistake by him, just like Patricia Heaton did to apologize about pointing out what a SLUT fluck is.

  • TexasDoc

Don’t buy any of those products anyway.

  • Martin Vorbrodt

Well I love Rush too, and I unfortunately have a Carbonite subscription! Guess what’s getting canceled today!?! Mozy here I come!!!

  • SeaFoamGreen

They hate us. They loath us. Sluts like Fluck-o DESPISE US.

But they sure need us. Pay for entitlements. Keep those awful, big businesses afloat…’cause even though they’re big and awful, we need them. Keep working harder and spending more and more of your money on us. Keep supporting the parasites, just don’t insult them by calling them what they are.

Now Atlas starts to shrug, and it scares the shit out of them…and it should.

    Be VERY afraid.

  • Martin Vorbrodt

Did I also mention that I used to work for Citrix here in South Florida?! One potential future employer off my list :)

    CEO David Friend’s statement:
“Even though Mr. Limbaugh has now issued an apology, we have nonetheless decided to withdraw our advertising from his show. We hope that our action, along with the other advertisers who have already withdrawn their ads, will ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse.”

    Investors’ and customers’ statement:
“Even though Mr. Friend may apologive, we have nonetheless decided to find alternatives to the services Carbonite offers. We hope that our action, along with the other former investors and customers who have already withdrawn their support, will ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse.”

  • Graycat

Carbonite also are sponsors for Mark Levin and Glenn Beck. Makes you wonder how much longer that will last.

  • Sinister66

They also advertise on Sean Hannity, Andrew Wilkow, and Mike Church.

  • StanInTexas

    Sinister, don’t forget MSNBC.

Yes, Carbonite is not longer advertising on Rush because they want to “contribute to a more civvilized public discourse.“, so they sponsor Ed Schultz!

    excuse me….
    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sinister66

    StanInTexas says:
Im not familiar with Ed shultz. Whats the deal with him.

  • WDLKD

but this is exactly what Obama and liberals WANT. the crash of businesses in the private sector. Carbonite asks for a bailout in 3 … 2… 1…..

  • Jeff

CEO = gutless, spineless, no brains, balless wimp. If the CEO of Carbonite, is an example of what is what is being taught in the schools of business today, and if he is typical of the CEOs running the companies today, then is no wonder that country is in so much economic trouble. THE singular best action the Carbonite CEO can do is to resign, RFN.

Sinister, sure you are not familiar with Schultz. Why don’t you do a little research and find out.

Not that it will make any difference to you!

  • http://moonbattery czuch

Rush spoke the truth from the beginning. He just fell into a trap. She is as he called it IF in fact she is behaviorally corrupt. Bringing disgrace upon herself and school is not a badge of honor and she is being exposed an an aperatchik. you go girl.

WTF are you babbling about. Wont make a difference to me about what?

  • Festivus

I literally signed up for Carbonite just a few days before this kurfuffle. Did so because they advertised on Rush’s show, too. Not sure what I’m going to do now. I don’t like how this played out.

As far as some of the comments are concerned, I’ve tried to go paperless with my business (a very small business) and I have over 50K files. I’ve tried for the past few years to do the external hard drive as a back up, but then you have to back up the back up, too. All that backing up is time consuming and difficult to organize and stay on top of (at least for me). Then, you have to have some safe place to store it that is reasonably quick to access or take the thing with you everywhere you go (what I ended up doing mostly). It’s really not that easy and it’s always on your mind. This off-site backup is really worth the money and is a great relief to someone like me. And there’s the added bonus that you can access these files when you are travelling from the Carbonite web site.

Also, the initial backup is slow but after that initial backup it keeps current pretty quickly from what I’ve noticed.

  • Jimbo

Is ‘Life Lock’ still a sponsor? I’ve been considering a service like theirs. (Sorry I can’t listen to Rush’s show while @work, or I’d find out for myself.)

Sinister, obviously you did not even bother to look up Ed Schultz.

Thank you for making my point for me!

    Headline From Infowars.com

    ‘Mancow’ Muller: Breitbart Was Murdered

    http://www.infowars.com/mancow-muller-breitbart-was-murdered/

“Given what Breitbart said both publicly and privately in the weeks before his death, it’s apparent that the footage released today is not what Breitbart had intended to release in the context of “destroying Barack Obama”. It remains to be seen whether such footage will ever see the light of day.”

  • Marmo

For you guys that used Carbonite, get a 1 terabyte Western Digital external hard drive like a MyBook or MyPassport. They hook up to your computer via USB and have backup software in them. They’re easy to set up and they do backups in the background so you don’t even know you’re getting backed up. They only cost around $100. Don’t send your data to a third party, do backups locally.

    Wal-Mart has them.

  • Festivus

Marmo, that’s fine for a simple backup to protect against your computer’s internal hard drive failing, but what if there’s a fire or some other event that takes both units out?

It just depends upon how important your data is to you. I’ve gotten to the point where the risk is getting too great even when considering low probability events like a fire or an earthquake. Off-site backup like Carbonite is really the best way to go.

The risk of a fire or earthquake is greater than the government seizing my data, if you ask me. Besides if it gets to that point, what’s the use?

(I should point out that I’m a Risk Manager, so it is my profession to obsess about such things)

Festivus, there are some very good free services that do just that. I use Dropbox.com and it works great. You get 2gB for free, with the option to upgrade.

The only people with money to buy some of these lame products are Rush listeners. Did Carbonite really think that limp-wristed lib’s were going to pony up there Gubment check money to buy something they would expect to get for free anyways.

For the person who isn’t familiar with “special ED” Shultz. There are several youtube videos available of Ed doing borderline headcase things with radio callers. Here’s one example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EC3XxN0pdkg
