How Newsweek Fought the War on Christmas in 2017

Another battle in the War on Christmas is behind us. The moonbats at Newsweek fought valiantly, linking the holiday to Donald Trump, whose…

…crusade to bring back Christmas is part of a larger attempt by the president to define America as a country for white Christians alone.

Wishing people “merry Christmas” instead of “happy holidays” is thus in line with Trump’s decision to ban citizens of Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States, critics say. It fits neatly with his refusal to condemn white supremacists when they march against diversity, and with his condemnation of athletes who protest police brutality against black men.

With this in mind, the fight to end the war on Christmas is exclusionary politics at its most flagrant.

Richard King, a professor at Washington State University, is brought forward to proclaim that “invocations of Christmas” are a “dog whistle.”

A dog whistle is coded language that seems innocent but has a secret meaning. When people say “Merry Christmas,” what they actually mean is “Heil Hitler.”

[S]ome see parallels between Trump’s speeches in front of Christmas trees and attempts by authoritarian regimes like the Nazis to manipulate popular celebrations to promote a political ideology. …

Nazi Germany’s propagandists rooted their idea of Christmas in visions of ethno-nationalism. … The ultimate goal was to draw a clear line between those who belonged and those who should be excluded and not benefit from the joys of Christmas.

Presumably the reference is to Jews, who like Muslims do not celebrate Christmas because they have their own holidays.

Trump’s talk about Christmas coexists with re-emerging white identity politics…

Joe Perry, author of Christmas in Germany: A Cultural History, barks:

“Frankly, I’m not sure how far Trump himself is willing to go to use the holiday to promote anti-Muslim or anti-minority visions of America, or if he even really understands what he is doing with his ‘merry Christmas’ tirades.”

Thank goodness the season is over. Sensitive liberals will finally get a break from the two-word tirade, “Merry Christmas.”

I actually thought the Newsweek piece was on the level, until I came to the picture of a guy standing in front of “The Redneck Shop,” giving a Nazi salute while dressed in a Santa outfit.

The Onion had its day. Now Newsweek has taken its place.

Isn’t it interesting that the left always refers to the Nazis banning Christmas, while ignoring that the USSR banned Christmas as a religious holiday in 1929, and in 1935, Christmas trees became “New Year trees?”

Totalitarians hate religious holidays, unless, of course, the totalitarians are also in charge of the religion. Competition and all.

Richard King, a professor at Washington State University, is brought forward to proclaim that “invocations of Christmas” are a “dog whistle.”
The Dog Whistle in this story is Richard King and Snewsweek , both have a grasp of history that only covers their own lifespans, Starting with the dog whistle Hitler and moving forward. 1930s to the present ignoring 2018 years of what went on before!
Not much of a professor or a publication.

Wishing people “merry Christmas” instead of “happy holidays”- Uh Newsweek where do you think the word Holiday comes from?

  • Jester

You know, it’s just that simple for these people. They’re just like children; the worst kind of children.

Richard King doesn’t have to be a particularly intelligent or talented educator to get tenure on the left coast. He only needs to be a leftist.
