The Qualifications of the Obama Portrait Artists

If you have seen the new official portraits of Barack and Michelle Obama, you have probably wondered why they chose artists so conspicuously lousy:

Actually, both artists do have qualifications.

Amy Sherald, who painted something that vaguely resembles Michelle Obama if you squint, is a Woman of Color from the black city Baltimore.

Kehinde Wiley, creator of the Barack Hussein lost in the outfield at Wrigley Field portrait, isn’t as bad at painting, is also of politically preferred pigmentation, and has the further qualification that he paints pictures of black women brandishing white people’s severed heads. Seriously:

Kathy Griffin gives it a double thumbs-up.

Wiley explains: “It’s sort of a play on the ‘kill whitey’ thing.”

Just because he is finally out of the White House does not mean Obama is done poking us in the eye. These awful portraits will hang in the Smithsonian indefinitely.
