What if ObamaCare Really Were Like Auto Insurance

Oligarchical collectivists eager to strike a death blow against individual liberty by upholding Obama’s seizure of control over the healthcare industry often quack that ObamaCare is just like auto insurance, since auto insurance is mandatory if you own a car. Only Monte Python could imagine a world in which auto insurance really resembles ObamaCare, but Eric Scheiner produces a stellar effort:

The argument that ObamaCare is like car insurance proves yet again that there are two kinds of liberals: 1) idiots, and 2) condescending authoritarians who think everyone else is an idiot.

Hey, I went to school with Eric. I haven’t seen him in 25 years. Cool. I’m glad to see that he’s doing well.

Auto insurance is not mandatory in the state of NH. I’m surprised he didn’t mention this because he’s from here. Anyway, good bit. Let’s see some more.

  • Eric

Come to think of it, Why isn’t auto insurance federally mandated, shared, and funded?

  • Eric

What’s with all these Geico, Progressive, Nationwide, etc, ad-nausium being independently, privately owned entities, shouldn’t they be government overseen and controlled just like healthcare will be?

I sure could use some help paying my auto insurance, who’s with me?

  • RICH

Eric, who’s going to help you? Are you not a taxpayer? You’d be paying government to do your work. Do they work for free? Once government gets involved, you’d have more government, fewer private sector workers, increased inefficiencies, higher costs, reduced coverage, horrible customer service, union protection, pensions, etc., ad-nausium.

If that’s more helpful, I’m all set.

In a rare case where I feel the need to clarify something Mr. Blount says – he is correct when he says,

“there are two kinds of liberals: 1) idiots, and 2) condescending authoritarians who think everyone else is an idiot.”

What he failed to point out, though, is that set 2 is a subset of set 1. In other words, all liberals belong to the set “idiots”, and in addition a smaller subset of them are authoritarians who believe others, those who disagree with them, anyway, are idiots.

The auto insurance comparison fails on so many fronts – the most significant being that buying a car is an option – you’re not required to buy a car – therefore you’re not required to have car insurance.

And the skit was pretty funny, because I left an auto insurance company when I decided, due to certain circumstances, not to operate a car on public streets for a certain period of time a while back. During that time I informed my insurance company I wanted the policy cancelled. Not only did they refuse to cancel it, they renewed it without my permission then demanded I pay the renewal after I had told them to cancel it.

Of course, I won, plus I dropped them and got a better company.

Rich, I believe Eric was being sarcastic.

    At least, I hope so!

Requiring drivers to be insured by law works so well that I have $200K coverage in case I’m hit by an “uninsured/under-insured” motorist.

Echoing Bob Roberts, you are not born with car, you get one by choice. However, the health insurance mandate applies to everyone merely for existing.

It goes against the very core of our constitution.

I am no longer very optimistic about the outlook for our country. If the supreme court strikes this down, it will be by one vote. We are one heartbeat away from a radical marxist majority on the supreme court.

If Obama is re-elected, that court is a certainty. Even if the Republicans have both houses of congress, the implementation of Obamacare will be unstoppable in the face of a presidential veto. Within 5 years, there will be no private health insurance industry for the vast majority of Americans.

And the “fundamental change’ will continue. Upper level tax rates will exceed 50%. All controls on voter fraud will be forbidden. The electoral college will be eliminated, with the result the President will be chosen strictly from the popular vote and future elections will be decided in California and New York. Proportional representation will be instituted, with politcal offices portioned out in a gender-equal, racial caste system. The military will be dramatically downsized and tasked primarily with internal control.

America will be a weaker, poorer place, more “equal” but much less free.

As we speak, the marxists are ruthlessly using the power of the federal government to prevent the states from controlling voter fraud. They are waging propaganda wars aimed at the lowest common denominator (e.g. the “war on women”). They are using the media and Hollywood to spread lies that would make Goebbels blush. They are setting up a phony third party (“Americans Elect”) on all 50 state ballots, courting moderate Republicans to run to split the vote and guarantee Obama Ohio.

Meanwhile, the Republicans are tearing themselves apart and golfing with the President. These are not old school democrats they are competing with, these are Alinskyite radicals who are out for blood. “Change” means destroy.

It’s do or die in 2012.

Yeah, and what’s worse, as I found out from experience when I was hit by an illegal alien who had no license or insurance and was driving an unregistered vehicle while drunk, who had priors for all these crimes and could have been sent back home more than once but never was, the insurance company, when they can’t charge the accident against the person who caused it and raise THEIR rates, because they don’t have any insurance, charges it against YOU and raises YOUR rates.

Which was another reason I dropped that insurance company.

Meanwhile the guy who hit me spent a few days in jail then the state declined to prosecute because there wasn’t any money in it for them.

So they turned him loose to do it again to someone else.

I don’t know, maybe he killed the next family he hit.

    In an unrelated story,

OWN cans Rosie. Due to ratings that made even their generally dismal ones look great, the OWN decided it was time to pull the plug on Rosie O’Donnell.

    About time.

If the supreme court strikes this down, it will be by one vote. We are one heartbeat away from a radical marxist majority on the supreme court. This statement by Beef should be etched in stone on every public building in the US. It should also be posted on any blog or web site when someone says, “I’m not voting for (fill in the blank) because there’s no difference.”If the communists get control of the SCOTUS again (they had it under Earl Warren) it’ll be time to break out the guns and take it to the streets. The US will cease to exist. It is imperative the left not have a majority in the Senate. Vote the bastids out or kiss it all good bye.

OOPS, I think I left out a link in that last post – here it is corrected and modified a bit:

OBAMANOMICS: Debt exploding under Obama (blame CONGRESS, the DEMOCRATS in Congress in particular, though Obama is encouraging it) while Obama “slums” (his own word for it) with “the 1%” and worries about… THE GREAT WEATHER!

Great – the country is going bankrupt and Obama worries that the weather is so good.

    WTF?

  • Ghost of FA Hayek

    There is one similarity here
Obamacare is like watching a car WRECK in slow motion

  • Eric

My point with the auto insurance sarc (yes it was) is to illustrate the straw man (wicker man) that progressives put up for us to stare at stupidly while they passed legislation under our noses before they load us all up and set us alight.

    A. Auto insurance is not required if you don’t drive/can’t get it/won’t get it/don’t care to get it/refuse to get it/forget to get it, etc (you DO have a choice)

    B. There are multitudes of independent, privately owned/run sources for acquiring auto insurance; and they are making huge money (that’s why they advertise on a level with pharmaceuticals).

    3. Auto ins. companies charge more for pre-existing conditions. (DUI, poor credit, tickets, accidents, etc.).

    D. Auto ins. pay-outs are NOT subsidized by EVERY driver in America, but only by the fellow holders of that companies policies.(local not federal redistribution)

  • Jodie

    Great points Eric!

  • Ghost of FA Hayek

Another point is that the auto insurance mandate is meant to protect from the carnage a driver causes while on public roads and terminally clogging the court system

The (original) purpose of health insurance was to protect the insured’s PROPERTY in case of illness
However it’s new purpose is to guarantee free birth control and abortions, while inevitably rationing something like pacemakers, or cancer treatment to pay for it.
The purpose of the mandate is to keep people from fleeing the ultimate crappy deal
Your choices will be to die in an ambulance in the hospital parking lot (UK), die in a dirty bed covered with flies (Cuba)
    Or to die at home

    Microchiping included in Healthcare Bill?

In “real world speak”, according to this report, this new law, when fully implemented, provides the framework for making the United States the first Nation in the World to require each and every one of its citizens to have implanted in them a radio-frequency identification (RFID) microchip for the purpose of controlling who is, or isn’t, allowed medical care in their country.

If auto insurance were like ObamaCare you would get free contraceptives through your auto insurance because you like to do it in the back seat.

Getting pregnant isn’t getting sick. Contraceptives prevent pregnancy, not sickness. The pill doesn’t prevent sickness. It isn’t like health medication.

The pill, as part of health care except when prescribed for those very rare instances when it treats an illness, is a complete non-sequituer.
