Ben Carson Speaks Obvious Truth on Poverty, Moonbats Go Ballistic

One thing we know for sure by now is that you can’t fight poverty by throwing other people’s money at it. The $22 trillion wasted subsidizing indigence through the War on Poverty has gotten us nowhere. Maybe we can fight it with countermoonbattery:

Ben Carson, the head of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, faced an intense backlash on Wednesday for calling poverty “a state of mind.”

Mr. Carson, who oversees a department that handles housing for millions of low-income Americans, made the comments during a radio interview on Tuesday with Armstrong Williams, a friend and conservative media personality. During the talk, Mr. Carson, a retired neurosurgeon, said he thought some people were poor because of their outlook on life.

“I think poverty to a large extent is also a state of mind,” he said, according to a transcript of the interview that was released on Wednesday. “You take somebody that has the right mind-set, you can take everything from them and put them on the street, and I guarantee in a little while they’ll be right back up there.”

He added that helping people may not better their lives.

“You take somebody with the wrong mind-set, you can give them everything in the world — they’ll work their way right back down to the bottom,” he said.

Carson was raised by a single mother in inner-city Detroit. He worked his way out of poverty to become a famous brain surgeon. He knows what he’s talking about.

The problem is, moonbats don’t — and they seem to do most of the talking. Their reaction to Carson’s assertion that 2 + 2 = 4 was predictable. For example:

Takei himself has worked his way up. Once a faintly remembered minor has-been actor, he became a household name by shouting loudly that he is a sexual deviant and won’t tolerate anyone who doesn’t want to congratulate him for it. As you can see, he is now branching out into other aspects of moonbattery.

On a tip from Lyle.

Dr. Carson makes a good point. It’s not the whole answer but it’s good starting point
If George Takeei wants to see a blithering idiot , he just needs to look in the mirror

“You know what else is a state of mind? Always being a blithering idiot.”

    — NO SHlT.

  3. Bodhisattva says:

I’ve explained this to several lunatic liberal moonbats – the way I put it is this: Poor people stay poor for reasons – and if you study them you find what those reasons are.

There are a variety of them, but one subset is exactly what Dr. Carson was talking about: The decision and resulting behaviors tend to keep them poor.

I cite specific examples and the lunatic liberal moonbats say, each time, “Those are anecdotes – anecdotes aren’t evidence”. I patiently explain to them that evidence is based on statistic and statistics come from an aggregation of anecdotes.

    They don’t get it.

  4. Valkyrie Ziege says:

; Not being able to afford shelter, food, clothing, utilities, and medical help, isn’t a ”state of mind”, and elitists, such as Ben Carson, braying-out non-sense they recently heard from a television evangelist, while having all their expenses paid for by the tax-payers, should have to live in a Ghetto, preferably Detroit, and we’ll see how long their ”state of mind” lasts.

  5. Valkyrie Ziege says:

    ; George Takei isn’t ”wretched”.

  6. Take The Red Pill says:

“Ben Carson says that poverty is a “state of mind.” You know what else is a state of mind? Always being a blithering idiot.” — George Takei

George Takei doesn’t make any counter-argument, just insults…like the usual Leftist drivel. Nothing new to see here.

  7. Take The Red Pill says:

They don’t “get it” because they don’t want to — mainly because it conflicts with their Leftist agenda, and because they don’t want poverty to ‘be solved’ (they use poverty to further their agenda).

  8. Bodhisattva says:

    Now there’s another GREAT point.

Ask a liberal to explain ANY PROBLEM that liberals have identified and solved, EVER!

Some will say “Well we got universal health care, until Republicans took it away!” Of course this is another lie – even after it was passed, obamacare was openly admitted to NOT cover everyone. And there is a strong argument the Republicans should have left it in place just a little longer – because it was crashing and burning on it’s own!

The fact is there is not one problem that socialists/liberals have solved, EVER.

    Why not?

You said it – they bring up, often they CREATE problems, so they’ll have things to use to motivate their base with their lies and propaganda, their fear mongering.

If they solve ANY of the problems, including those they created, they won’t be able to use them to motivate their base any more.

“You know what else is a state of mind? Always being a blithering idiot.” — George Takei

He should know, being one of the best examples of a blithering idiot in our time. He certainly knows himself!

  10. Trebuchet says:

“Ben Carson says that poverty is a “state of mind.” You know what else is a state of mind? Always being a blithering idiot.” — George Takei

You’re a sterling example of that principle, George.

  11. Trebuchet says:

Good Lord, how ignorant are you? Ben Carson isn’t an elitist. Ben Carson grew up poor in Detroit, raised by a single mother, and by hard work and smarts clawed his way out to become a brilliant neurosurgeon. There’s even been a movie made about him.

He should be a shining example to all poor and minority people struggling to escape poverty, but because he won’t follow the leftist playbook and stay on the Democratic plantation, he’s treated as a pariah.

I’d say you should be ashamed of yourself, but shame is not something leftists have.

  12. Valkyrie Ziege says:

    ; Sure he did.

  13. Trebuchet says:

Google “Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story. ” You might learn something, although, like most leftists, I suspect you are impossible to educate.

  14. Valkyrie Ziege says:

; Whatever Ben Carson started out as, isn’t where he is today, and ”a state of mind” doesn’t pay the bills.

  15. Hungjumper says:

He’s quite the little fudgepackee troll these days.

I guess I’d be hateful as well if I was getting a sausage stuffed up my ass regularly.

  16. Jester says:

Mr. Takei, please tell us *why* Dr. Carson is wrong instead of offering only childish personal insults.

  20. Trebuchet says:

Perhaps not, but a state of mind which says “Don’t bother working or trying to improve yourself” isn’t going to pay them either.

American history is full of people who succeeded despite being poor as children. George Washington. Abraham Lincoln. Andrew Carnegie. Henry Ford. John Rockefeller.

Read about them. Maybe you’ll learn something.

And on a off-topic sidenote, vlogger Styxhexenhammer666 talk about the “Starbucks marxists” who don’t and won’t understand hard-line Islam.

  23. StephaneDumas says:

George Takei act like a real trigglypuff….err I mean “Takeipuff”.

  24. KHarn says:

I guess you never heard the joke:
    “You fat, stupid, cock-sucking, communist!”

; I’m more well read than you’ll ever be. During my childhood, because I constantly read, and studied in libraries, my parents nick-named me ”the retard”, and because I wear glasses I was, also, nick-named ”the cripple”.
Many of the people you mention participated in means of gaining wealth that would’ve landed them in prison for life today.
The bottom line is Ben Carson, as an official, is now living off the tax-payers, and he should help out his own people, instead of quoting platitudes from television evangelists.

  26. Valkyrie Ziege says:

; I’m more well read than you’ll ever be. During my childhood, because I constantly read, and studied in libraries, my parents nick-named me ”the retard”, and because I wear glasses I was, also, nick-named ”the cripple”.

  27. Valkyrie Ziege says:

; Was that joke too subtle?

  28. KHarn says:

I can attest to that, from both people I know and MYSELF. Luckily, I wised up and grew a pair… of BRAIN CELLS.

  29. Trebuchet says:

You are laughable. I learned to read when I was four, and I’ve been an avid reader for more than 50 years. You have no idea how well read I am, but I’ll give you a hint: I read between forty and fifty NON-FICTION books a year, mostly history, biography, and science. That doesn’t include fiction books, or articles I read online.

Did you think Hillary or Obama were “living off the people” when they were in office, or does that only apply to conservatives? What exactly did either of them do to “help their own people”? Hillary did nothing but enrich herself and her cronies, and Obama’s overt racism took race relations back at least 50 years.

Grow up, and try reading something besides Saul Alinsky and DNC talking points.

  30. Valkyrie Ziege says:

; Some of the best times on Howard Stern was when George Takei was on as sometime co-host, although, It wasn’t New York Longshoreman working class as Artie Lange is. At least, with George Takei, you can trust him around the cutlery.

  33. Valkyrie Ziege says:

; What you’re leaving out are the Rappers/Hip-hop performers who took ”up front money” from the recording companies, ( A very bad idea, that forced many of the performers to sign everything over to the recording company to pay off the debt. ), and spent all that money on ”Air Jordans”, custom jewelry, custom cars, custom houses, custom clothing, and going to restaurants for every meal, including coffee, all without resale value, and they didn’t help out their own people, and they’re now living on Grand-ma’s couch, again, where they started from. Horatio Alger, it ain’t.

  34. 127guy says:

Who and what is “George Takei?”

  35. Trebuchet says:

See, that’s a perfect example of poor decision making, which is one of the things Dr Carson was referring to.

People may have no control over whether they are poor, but they have a lot of control over whether or not they remain that way.

Spending all your money on hookers, blow, and bling is not smart planning.

  36. Trebuchet says:

    More ignorance on display.

Dr. Carson was held up by Democrats as a sterling example of what a poor black kid from the ghetto could achieve – until he came out as a Republican. Then suddenly he was an Uncle Tom, a sellout, an Oreo.

Even consider that his experiences in the ghetto might give him some insights that escape all the millionaire Democrats in Congress and other limousine liberals, living in their guarded, gated communities and estates?

  37. Bodhisattva says:

As Trebuchet said, that’s a great example of EXACTLY what I (and Dr. Carson) was talking about.

  38. Bodhisattva says:

I make bad decisions too, sometimes. We all do. But the thing is I try to recognize and resolve mine, generally.

  39. 75cephus says:

You want evidence on a state of mind? Read about past lottery winners. You’d think having millions handed to them would solve all their problems. Sadly, several end up filing for bankruptcy. If you don’t know what to do with $50, how the hell are you going to know what to do with $50 million?

  40. Valkyrie Ziege says:

; That isn’t ”teasing”, that is insanity, and doesn’t belong around children. The authors’ works you cited are only good for using to start a camp-fire.

  41. Valkyrie Ziege says:

; Ben Carson doesn’t have leadership qualities.

  42. Trebuchet says:

Well, at least you recognize that.

  43. Trebuchet says:

We are not asking Dr Carson to lead an army to storm Omaha Beach, we are asking him to reform a corrupt and wasteful government bureaucracy that, at least in theory, is about public housing. I’m fairly certain he’s the only person ever to serve in that position who actually lived in public housing. I’ll trust a decent and honest man with actual experience in the ghetto over any Washington policy dweeb. It is “experts” who got our country in this mess.

  44. Valkyrie Ziege says:

; You need an update. Welcome to the new millennium wherein the drugs of choice in the black/rap/hip-hop communities, are ”purple drank”, a concoction of prescription codeine cough-syrup, mixed with Mountain Dew, and Jolly Rancher hard-candies, to sweeten the taste, then the mixture is dissolved in a blender, poured over ice into a chalice. You see them at on-the-red-carpet at musical, television, and motion-picture events, now you know what is in them. Very Classy.

Medicinal Marijuana, that is hundreds of times stronger then Marijuana from the 1960s, is smoked in giant spliffs as if it were home-grown. Very Classy.

Animal Tranquilizer, a.k.a. ”Angel Dust” is back in the black/rap/hip-hop communities, along cheap heroin, usually in the form of black-tar, usually put into the end of a ‘swisher sweet” cigar, then smoked. Many times it’s put into a spliff, and smoked. Very Classy.

When they use alcohol, it’s in the form of the ultra expensive brandies, liquors, and cognacs, costing hundreds-of-dollars a bottle, drunk straight from the bottle. Very Classy.

They don’t have to buy ”hookers” because there are women, queuing-up by the hundreds, willing to have sex with them, to get pregnant by them as their early retirement plan. Again, Very Classy.

Anytime someone doesn’t ”respect them”, or ”offends” them, they retaliate, usually killing whoever, and considering the drugs being used, it does explain the lack of impulse control, combined with the low quality of poetry, music, sampled music, re-makes, and re-boots, coming from the black/rap/hip-hop communities.
How nice to live in a classless society.

; Every-time some Horatio Alger type gets into public office, the buck stops with them, because it says with them. Look at the facts, rap/hip-hop performers spend all their money on themselves, bragging about it, while posting pictures of all their expensive purchases online, and never help their own people.
