Bloomberg Proposes Apartments the Size of Prison Cells

The reason NYC’s Michael Bloomberg is Mayor for Life is that he knows better than his subjects how they should live. He knows how much soda they should be allowed to drink, how their food should be prepared, whether the US Constitution should apply to them, and even how large their cubbyholes I mean apartments should be:

Maybe it’s the urban dwelling of the future: studio apartments measuring no more than 300 square feet. …

Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Monday invited developers to propose ways to turn a Manhattan lot into an apartment building filled mostly with what officials are calling “micro-units” — dwellings complete with a bathroom, built-in kitchenette and enough space for a careful planner to use a fold-out bed as both sleeping space and living room.

If the pilot program is successful, officials could ultimately overturn a requirement established in 1987 that new apartments here be at least 400 square feet.

As this corresponds perfectly with “smart growth” schemes to pack us into tighter spaces for easier management, it won’t be limited to New York City.

In San Francisco, developers are seeking permission to rent out apartments as small as 150 square feet.

According to the experts (“design aficionados”), subsisting in “minimal space” is “spiritually freeing.”

Excuses used for Obama’s ham-fisted seizure of control over the healthcare sector also apply to housing. Bloomberg’s schemes offer a glimpse at how our mastermind rulers will have us living in the near future if we don’t begin to put up resistance.

On the positive side, when we live stacked on top of each other like feeder rats at the pet store, there will be more room for the sacred polar bears to roam.

Bloomberg knows how much space his subjects need.

    Habitrail macht frei!

  2. Henry says:

Bloomfag should be required to live in one of those shoe boxes for a year before promoting them to the rest of us.

  3. Winston Smith says:

Ever seen the movie THE CUBE. They should build it like that. All registed Democrats should be housed in a Super Cube in each zipcode. They would get to meet new and interesting people as the rooms move randomly around within the building and search for the exit or die trying.

  4. metprof says:

His master bath is bigger than that.

  5. Doug says:

    master bath??????

How about the closet for his toilet paper?

  6. Cameraman says:

He needs to be in a 5X9 Cell with combination Toilet and Sink, I think Rikers Island Has those accommodations, they would suit his Nazi Taste!

  7. justme says:

And all cells, rather apartments, will be painted in the required Federal White, formerly “Prison Grey.” All other colors are forbidden. Electricity will only be supplied for three hours a day, candles are forbidden, refrigerators will only hold 1500 calories worth of food. Utopia is coming.. get ready!

  8. AC says:

Are they apartments built like prison cells or prison cells made to look like apartments?

The distinction is moot for those enslaved by government handouts, for which these holding cells are intended.

  9. Noelegy says:

I find the obsession with living in as small a space as possible, or living on as little as possible, to be every bit as odious as those who brag about how much they own.

  10. Gaybinator says:

Get yourself educated on U.N. Agenda 21. It is in EVERY community in this country to some extent. The guy who retired and was elected to city council or county commission doesn’t know what it is. Grants from feds, state, foundations and non-government organizations feed it. Once politicians get a taste for free money, they will do anything. It never occurs to them that the zoning overlay that they implement is part of a bigger picture. You have to educate yourself, then the local politicians. Don’t go into a meeting yelling about the U.N. or you will be dismissed. Find out who the players are, “stakeholders” are NOT the citizens. “Visioning” meetings or “consensus” meetings have predetermined outcomes. If you live in the country, never, ever sign a conservation easement. Lots of information:
BTW – AGENDA 21 CALLS FOR A HUGE POPULATION REDUCTION, after all, the elites know what’s best.

  11. Sam says:

So let me get this straight:

Imprisoning thugs in 150 sq ft cells = cruel and unusual punishment

Having people pay $2k/mo. to live in a 150 sq ft apartment = progress

Can we start the goddamned revolution now?

  12. Jeff says:

@Sam, good sir, I am ready to revolt any time you are. Battle cry ought to be: No retreat, No surrender, No mercy.
If the Mayor thinks his ideas are so great, then let him lead by example and live his own life under he exact set of rules that he wants to impose on others.
Personally, I would rather see him as the guest of honor at a neck tie social, Western style.

  13. 762x51 says:

Why are people still living in NY under Adolph Bloomberg?

Seems like a good enough reason to leave to me, I would not be held hostage there.

  14. whotothewhat says:

Who knew that the cells in local county prison could become a real estate boon someday. Compared to what they will expect us sheeple to live in, a cell will be spacious high class living replete with two bunks and a stainless steel toilet how chic.

  15. Marty says:

This guy is a mayor for pete’s sake. How does he have enough power to impose any of this shit on anyone????? He basically is a nobody if you ask me

  16. Ellen K says:

My understanding is that many New Yorkers are already living under this kind of space tyranny. One wonders if these limits will make Rangel sell his second rent controlled apartment or simply lease it to a large family?

  17. Jill says:

Why are there fascist nanny state regulations on the minimum sizes for apartments? Let the market decide. If an upstanding capitalist landlord wants to rent out a 50sqft apartment and someone is prepared to rent it, then why should the fascist state intervene? It’s only poor people who rent them and they don’t matter.

Moonbattery Supports the Free Market! No fascist nanny state regulation Jackboots on the throats of job creating landlords

  18. justme says:

Bloomberg is dangerous not because he is mayor, but because he is worth $22 Billion at last count, owns a media conglomerate that cheers for wall street and uses his wealth to buy the results he wants. Anything from legislation, Public Relations and even ELECTIONS, he buys like the rest of us buy groceries.

HE IS A SICK, EVIL, LITTLE MAN who is extremely dangerous because of his power to purchase these things.

  19. Alan says:

“… officials could ultimately overturn a requirement established in 1987 that new apartments here be at least 400 square feet.”

    Um, yes they should. Now.

Cheap micro-apartments should be a free-market option in any crowded city anywhere. The landlord and tenant decide what the living space will be when they sign the lease. It’s nobody else’s freaking business either way.

Overcrowded buildings could be a hazard in a fire or other emergency, but they’re no more dangerous than a restaurant, movie theater or subway.

    Dumb law. Repeal it.

  20. Marty says:

New York is full of cowards. If the mayor of Oklahoma City (Mick Cornett) tried that kind of shit here, the people would string him up like a set of Christmas lights, And he knows it! His money don’t mean shit to me I gurarantee. Democrats beleive in Mob rule…. Trust me the mob WOULD rule here in Oklahoma!

  21. TED says:

A$$holes in NY deserve what they voted FOR! Open Sewer!
