Even Hoaxers Admit It Isn’t Getting Any Warmer

There’s no better time than April Fools Day to check in on the progress of the global warming crisis:

Debate about the reality of a two-decade pause in global warming and what it means has made its way from the sceptical fringe to the mainstream.

Even global warming profiteers have had to admit that their predictions are not coming true. True to form, they blame the embarrassing lack of rising temperatures on the source of all other problems — the emissions produced by human activity.

James Hansen, the head of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies, says the lower than expected temperature rise between 2000 and the present could be explained by increased emissions from burning coal.

That is, increased emissions cool the planet, countering the warming caused by increased emissions.

Others come close to admitting that the jig is up for the Great Global Warming Swindle.

“The global temperature standstill shows that climate models are diverging from observations,” says David Whitehouse of the Global Warming Policy Foundation.

“If we have not passed it already, we are on the threshold of global observations becoming incompatible with the consensus theory of climate change,” he says.

Whitehouse argues that whatever has happened to make temperatures remain constant requires an explanation because the pause in temperature rise has occurred despite a sharp increase in global carbon emissions.

It is becoming impossible to pretend that we haven’t been lied to. The UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change responds by screeching still more hysterical lies:

The upcoming IPCC report is expected to lift the maximum possible temperature increase [over the century] to 6C.

If temperatures still won’t go up, they may raise that to 12°C so that we’ll really be scared.

    “the jig is up”

Unlikely since liberals worship AGW in much the same way that Christians worship Jesus. They’ll never give up their beliefs.

Yes, it’s the faux pas of blog etiquette, the cross post. But this story is too delicious to fade away on an old thread.

“Melt may explain Antarctica’s sea ice expansion”

I love the smell of liberal desperation in the morning.

Yesterday 03/31/2013 the weather channel had a program on about global warming. Even when it is freezing they can rationalize the cause to global warming. The lady that runs this operation should be fired. They pump this BS into the heads of our children under the guise of settled science.

  7. RadioMattM says:

Last week on Jeopardy, on of the contestants was a meteorologist. Alex Trebek asked him “Is it getting harder to make weather forecasts after the effects of global warming.”

I once saw a TV meteorologist speak. Someone asked him why five-day forecasts were so often wrong. He answered that there were not enough reporting stations to make more accurate forecasts.

So, we should believe people who cannot accurately predict weather five days in advance when they say things will be much hotter in thirty years.

And they wonder why we don’t believe them.

I’ve heard that now they are going to switch tactics from climate change to ocean acidification.

He beat me to this one:

Climate change is expanding Antarctica’s sea ice, according to a scientific study in the journal Nature Geoscience.

That’s right – warming is causing more ice. It’s official!

    Officially crazy!

Climate scientists have been intrigued by observations that Antarctic sea ice shows a small but statistically significant expansion of about 1.9% per decade since 1985, while sea ice in the Arctic has been shrinking over past decades.

Could it be that there is an oscillation in polar ice and that as the ice cap in the north shrinks the one in the south grows? That is what seems to be happening at times.

What makes me laugh is that moonbats take advantage of the PROVEN ignorance of their constituency by making ridiculous claims like “If the Larsen ice shelf melts all the ice and snow will slide of Antarctica”.

Of course they leave out that the Larsen ice shelves (there are several of them, A, B, C, D) are on the Antarctic peninsula and are not holding back even 1% of Antarctic ice and snow.

I wanted to expand on your remarks, but first, a disclaimer.

I’m not a meteorologist nor do I play one on TV. But I do pay attention to those who know what they’re talking about.

One to watch is John Coleman right here at San Diego’s KUSI. You may also know him as the genius behind the Weather Channel, which unfortunately has since been overrun with climate alarmist moonbats.

Of course the moonbats attack Coleman every chance they get – at one point they actually proposed stripping anyone who disagreed with their nonsense of their AMS credentials.

The answer given to Trebek on Jeopardy was partly correct. The number of weather stations is a big factor in why forecasts are often wrong. Now this holds true ANYWHERE, but if you spend time living say on the east coast, in the central US, on the gulf coast and on the west coast you (if you pay attention) might learn something. In places where there are less weather stations (the west coast, for instance) in the directions weather usually comes from, the forecasts tend to be worse. In places well surrounded by weather stations (the central U.S., for instance) they still get things wrong but not as much.

The problem is the atmosphere is a large, dynamic place and there are different ways conditions resolve themselves based on what are numerous and sometimes rather subtle differences in pressure, temperature and outside influences Yes, that big burning ball of gas in the sky DOES influence weather, temperature and climate no matter what the moonbats say. Plus, according to some proven science, so do cosmic rays. It’s a fact, you can look it up!

  12. Xavier says:

Bob, it’s because ice expands when it melts. Then when the expanded water refreezes, it obviously makes a greater amount of ice than what was there previously. Thaw and repeat. Bingo, more ice!

Maybe I can get a grant – Penn State’s just a few miles away.

  15. Xavier says:

Bob, James Gleick wrote a book called Chaos Theory – The Making of a New Science, in which he addressed the weather forecasting problem. It’s his contention, and I believe him, that weather stations placed on a 1 foot grid across the U.S. would not improve forecasting, because of instabilities and the effects of random small changes on large systems.

Anyone paying close attention knows that near term (24 to 48 hours) the weather forecasts are pretty good. 72 hours out is a bit less accurate, and anything beyond that is a crap shoot. Nothing can predict weather a week out, except for large long lived systems like hurricanes and even then the computer models are not any more accurate than human analysis of 50 years ago.

Short range forecasting has improved immensely; Doppler Radar and satellites have made a huge difference and we now get to-the-minute storm arrival times which are highly touted by our TV news. But does it really matter? As a farmer, I need to know what’s going to happen 3-5 days out – and I’ve yet to see a prediction service that can provide that with any reliability.
