Green Fleet Foolishness Wastes Fortunes

If under Obama the foremost mission of NASA is to help Muslims feel good about their imaginary scientific accomplishments, what is the purpose of the Navy? It is twofold: to promote homosexuality, and to implement green energy lunacy:

The Navy is steaming ahead with an initiative to power ships with biofuel, despite criticism the so-called “green fuel” costs nearly seven times more than conventional fuel. …

A Navy official told on Monday that sailing the so-called “Great Green Fleet” this month on the 50-50 blend of alternative and conventional fuel is part of Navy Secretary Ray Mabus’ plan to have half the Navy fleet on alternative fuel by 2020.

The moonbat fuel costs $26 per gallon, versus $3.60 per gallon for the stuff the government won’t let us drill.

The so-called “drop-in” fuels are derived from seeds, algae and chicken fat.

Only in Obamaland.

With such serious green initiatives consuming its attention, it’s a good thing the military doesn’t have to worry about winning wars. Rules of engagement don’t permit that anyway.

The Navy’s future under liberal rule.

Navy ships have been running on an alternative fuel since the 1960’s.

It’s called uranium, and it works well when enviromoonbats aren’t in the way.

  2. J says:

anyone knows how the biofuel efficiency compares to the old fuel?

  3. hiram says:

    Let’s see here:

    1) Hamper the US military,

    2) Waste taxpayer dollars & drive up the debt ala “Cloward-Piven”, and

    3) Payoff your political donors in the bogus “Green” sector.

    It’s a moonbat trifecta!

  4. Winston Smith says:

Biofuel hold less energy. That much I know. It would be different if 1 gallon of biofuel contain the energy of 10 gallon of standard fuel, but that isnt the case. It makes zero sense. Even less when considering the tighter defense budgets coming down the road.

Being the hold over that I am: I thought the function of a military was to win (victory) the wars it was fighting. Or to be so well prepared for combat as to intimidate our advisaries into inactivity. BTW, the “job” of the military is to kill people and break things (or to support or assist in the efforts of those doing the killing and breaking).

    I see an income opportunity!

Since they’re so green and want to use biofuels, I’m going to construct a method to capture cow “toots” and sell them to the government!

It makes perfect sense (to a liberal) that they should be buying all-natural use-it-immediately methane rather than having to process biofuel to make it usable.

    I’ll make a fortune!

  7. chuck in st paul says:

The reason the fuel is blended is that the cost of the biofuel is so high they watered down the delivered price by mixing it with ‘good’ fuel to keep the public from going orbital over the cost. Even then, nine times the cost of regular fuel… *sigh* There goes my tax money into some asshat’s pocket.

    bio-fuel = bio-dumb

  8. Don’f you just love the moonbats for this – they would like to reduce benefits for veterans to save money but at the other end, they are wasting bucket lots of money to line the pockets of their cronies.
Anyone ever wonder how much fossil fuel is used to make 1 gallon of green fuel, not to mention hiking food prices because farmers are getting more for selling food to companies making green fuel..
I wonder if this is going to piss off our saudi benefactors.

  9. Eric says:

I’m amazed such knowledgeable people as yourselves keep arguing moot points. I challenge anyone, anywhere to name one “fuel” that came from somewhere OUTSIDE the earth.

Oil, coal, gas, uranium, peat, whale blubber, etc. are all natural products of the EARTH. Some are processed, but all fuel is produced my natural functions of the earth.

  10. Antique Male says:

After the Navy is gutted by the budget process that the gutless Repubs signed on to, it will be easy to fuel the one tugboat left on active service.

As Rush often points out, the military’s two major purposes are to kill people and break things.
Under Obama, its main goals are to kill morale and break down our defenses.

Not so sure about the oil. Look into the abiogenic petroleum theory, and wonder how many dinosaurs would have had to die to result in the petroleum we have. Just a thought.

And they don’t mention how much it cost to retrofit the Navy ships to run on biofuel.

This is the most disturbing thing I’ve read in a while, one more chapter in the intentional undermining of our military and hence, our security. They can’t really be so stupid as to think that the cost of a fuel SEVEN TIMES the regular cost can be made competitive by bulk purchasing, can they? Ever hear of supply and demand? This isn’t just a case of economic illiteracy; it has to be a calculated treason.
