Gun-Grabber Buyback Turns Into Gun Show in Seattle

Here’s something you won’t see often in the Age of Hope & Change — a story with a happy ending:

Police officers in Seattle, Washington held their first gun buyback program in 20 years this weekend, underneath interstate 5, and soon found that private gun collectors were working the large crowd as little makeshift gun shows began dotting the parking lot and sidewalks. Some even had “cash for guns” signs prominently displayed.

Police stood in awe as gun enthusiasts and collectors waved wads of cash for the guns being held by those standing in line for the buyback program.

People that had arrived to trade in their weapons for $100 or $200 BuyBack gift cards($100 for handguns, shotguns and rifles, and $200 for assault weapons [sic]) soon realized that gun collectors were there and paying top dollar for collectible firearms. So, as the line for the chump cards got longer and longer people began to jump ship and head over to the dealers.

Moonbat authoritarians like Mayor Mike McGinn are predictably blowing steam out their ears as they scheme to make such economic activity illegal in the future.

But Schuyler Taylor, a previous gun retailer attending the event in hopes of buying weapons, asked “Why not offer them cash versus a gift card? I’m still taking the guns off the streets; they’re just going in my safe.”

Also, he pays for them with his own money, rather than money taken by force from taxpayers.

Moonbat Mayor Mike McGinn isn’t much liking it.

Gun buy backs are a total waste becuase no crinimal is going to show up to turn in their guns They need to focus on arrested crinimals not disarming citizens

One small correction: Amazon supplied about $30K in gift cards to this effort.

Vote with your consumer dollar, folks.

This was ingenious. Man, doubling what the gov was paying would still be one heck of a bargain! Wonder how long, or should say fast, The Usurpers will not allow private sales at the ‘event’? Just love how the American Patriot Spirits keeps frustrating things for the Offenders?

  4. facebkwallflower says:

$100 gift card??? You have got to be kidding? How unfeeling to take advantage of the poor like this? Selling for hundreds of dollars, in some cases, LESS than they could get on the open market. It is the Proggies taking advantage of the poor; Proggies screwing the poor; Proggies taking advantage of the underprivileged, the undereducated. Shame!

It is going to be harder than they thought to impose socialism. Capitalism is pretty hard to kill.

  6. Spider says:

Flu-Bird is quite right. Street criminals are not going to turn in their favorite pieces, or the ones they know could get them burned. They’ll turn in junk, or guns they’ve stolen. But it’s a smart move on the part of collectors.

  7. Flu-Bird says:

The trouble with this big city mayors is that they get these eletists feeling that they have special privlages they can go all over with their armed escorts They seem to think their in the middle ages where they have special rights And the mayor of Seattle in one of these examles Kind of like the King pig or the bad piggies from ANGRY BIRDS

never under estimate the ignorance of moonbats….
and sure, they could be hot….but possession is still
9/10’s of the law (?)or adverse chattel possession

  9. Katya Kakhov says:

You left out the part where they ran out of chump cards and tried giving out IOU’s at which point EVERYBODY bailed on them and dispersed though the parking lot looking for buyers .
And then …. there was also a minor kerfuffle with an empty Redeye rocket tube .

  10. Doug says:

This guy is the mayor of Seattle? My, my, how he looks familiar.

  11. Michelle says:

Mentally retarded ATF agents declare TOY GUNS can be converted to functional weapons….

These are the fools who are running healthcare, student loans, foregin policy, and every other agency!!

The agenda all along. Strange this all comes off of a highly active year for mass shootings. Makes you think.

There’s all kinds of writing on the walls and it not going to be pretty.

As my friends who escaped from actual communist have been saying the last few months. The parallels of what the US is right now and from what they escaped from are very similar. They warn me to watch what I say, there’s lists, there’s always lists.

  13. bdn says:

$200 for an assault rifle? Who in their right mind would take that chump change when demand is at an all time high? I was a gun store the other day and they only had one AR left…and it was selling for $1800. The guy told me 6 months ago the same one could be bought for $1000. A guy in there told me he owns one he bought a couple of years ago for about $1500 and right now the same one is going for $6000 on a gun auction website.

How did we get such fools as civic leaders?

  14. Eleanor in Hell says:

Boys, boys, boys, explain something to me.

    What is this “buy-back” bull-sh!t?

These guns were not originally sold by the police departments, nor sold by the states, nor sold by the Federal government.

So what in Hell does BUY -BACK- even mean?
    They’re not buying anything back.

  15. F.D.R. in Hell says:

Though it’s a modern colloquialism. I’d say these events should be called “Gun Rip-offs” of the ignorant.

There should be mental-health checks on people turning in their guns. No one in their right mind would voluntarily give up guns with what’s coming just over the horizon.

But, I guess if people bought into my Gold Grab of 1933, they’d do just about anything. It will be interesting to see how many people cooperate with Gold Grab II. This time, much of your privately-owned gold is registered with the Feds.

Woo Hoo! Fun times ahead, n’est pas?

  16. Flu-Bird says:

All the memebers of the eletists exclusive MAYORS AGAINST ILLEGAL GUNS(guns not owned by their bodyguards)all need to leave america and never come back and that incudes that arrogant old pomoius peacock MICHEAL BLOOMBURG

  17. KHarn says:

Criminals actually LOVE buy-backs. These things have always had a “no questions asked, no serial numbers checked” policy; the only thing they are concerned about is (SNORT!) “getting guns off the streets”. Reporters, polotitions and other supporters of buy-backs ALWAYS say they can find stolen guns or murder weapons this way, but they ALWAYS announce that the WILL NOT CHECK the guns!

It’s a great way for gang-bangers to get rid of hot guns.

Mayor Mike McGinn looks like a dirty homeless bum.

  19. Backbone 76 says:

“Moonbat mayor Mike McGinn”…sounds like the start of a Dr. Seuss Rhyme.

    Moonbat mayor Mike McGinn
Rubbed the hairs on his chinny chin chin
I’ll take their guns! I’ll take their glocks!
I’ll take their pistols stored in their socks!

This guy just looks like a little fuzz-nuts weenie, does’t he?

  20. Mr Evilwrench says:

In Chitcago a year or so ago, a pro gun group took some rusty old useless junk, received their gift cards, then used them to buy some nice new rifles and ammunition for a youth program. Pants were peed. We’ve had people intercepting these “buybacks” locally; I was considering taking a couple kilobux down to one last year, but my hip wasn’t up to it that weekend.

We had one in tucson on Jan.8. Lots of symbolism. Gabby Giffords was having her meeting with the unwashed and it was at a police station named after an officer who was kiled after a perp took his gun.
I went. Take lotsa money. Its totally safe and they dont take ammo. There was also no tear drop tattoos.
    204 turned in,, 40 sold.For a $50.00 Safeway card
    Peaceful assembly = 1st Amendement
    Private sales = 2nd Amendement.
Purchasing a bitchen pistol in a police station parking lot with 50 Officers within 20 feet,= PRICELESS!

  27. Jodie says:

Speaking of Gabby Giffords, I thought is was very interesting when she and her husband did the Diane Sawyer interview last year. There was very little talk about the gunman – no mention of the letter that he had in his safe from Gabby on which he wrote, “Die bitch!”. But, they made it clear that they were incensed and expected an apology from Sarah Palin. What a couple of evil fools!

  29. jay says:

Huh, these gun buy-backs sound like a great idea to me. I mean, if you steal a gun, unloading it for cash has always been tough. Pawn shops are wary of merchandise that they suspect may be stolen. Gun shops certainly don’t want to deal with anything that might be stolen — they’re under enough scrutiny as it is. But now the government comes along and solves the problem for the hard-working burglar. You steal a gun, they’ll give you cash for it!
