Hair Aflame, Dan Rather Shouts That Flynn Resignation Could Be Biggest Political Scandal of His Lifetime

Despite all the breathless headlines, a month from now no one will remember the Mike Flynn kerfuffle, which Charles Krauthammer aptly describes as a “cover-up without a crime.” In the meantime, Dan Rather screams that it could be the biggest political scandal of his lifetime:

Among the innumerable political scandals that dwarf Flynn talking about sanctions with the Russian ambassador and then foolishly denying it is the Rathergate scandal, in which The Dan attempted to derail George W. Bush’s reelection with crudely forged documents.

What are Rather et al. going to do when the Trump Administration gets bogged down in a real scandal? They can’t bark any louder than they are already, so no one will pay attention.

A little boy cries wolf.

Hat tip: New Americana.

Hey there Father of Fake News! It’s not a scandal. Your career was, but not this.

I heard Flynn was not allowed to even see the transcript of his own phone call. I also heard the conversation was something like this:

Russian ambassador: What about the sanctions?
Flynn: We’ll be reviewing our entire Russian policy once the new administration takes office.

    How scandalous.

  11. Rotohammer says:

Such a double standard. When truly damning emails of Dems are leaked, it’s all about phony Russian interference and how those emails were leaked. When a private phone conversation of a Republican is illegally leaked, it’s all about the content (and there isn’t even anything really there).

I hope Trump sees what he’s up against and realizes what it’s going to take to succeed in this hostile environment. A good tactic would be to investigate Democrats and keep them busy defending themselves.

  12. Jack Bauer says:

    Hey Dan,

When it’s down to only about six or seven people in the entire country that still care about what you think, (and you are one of them), it’s time to pack it in, get one of those funny pork-pie hats, and spend the rest of your days at the dog track with your old buds, ya know what I’m sayin’?

That’s funny. The biggest political scandal of my lifetime was when the adviser and friend of the First Lady turned up dead in a park–and the news media didn’t investigate it.

Their lack of interest in it was quite scandalous.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Similarly, if a scandal occurs and the media does not report on it, is it really a scandal?

On the one hand, I don’t generally wish anyone would die, but on the other, Rather is getting pretty old and, judging by the things he says these days, senile. Isn’t he about due?

  24. Bodhisattva says:

And you are correct. MUCH bigger… plus TATERS (above – and below, for that matter) just posted this:

CLEARED! FBI Says Nothing Wrong With General Flynn’s Communication With Russian Ambassador

The FBI in late December reviewed intercepts of communications between the Russian ambassador to the United States and retired Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn β€” national security adviser to then-President-elect Trump β€” but has not found any evidence of wrongdoing or illicit ties to the Russian government, U.S. officials said.

The calls were picked up as part of routine electronic surveillance of Russian officials and agents in the United States, which is one of the FBI’s responsibilities, according to the U.S. officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss counterintelligence operations.

The news is yet another blow to the mainstream media’s narrative of an untoward relationship between the Trump administration and Russia.

But you can bet they’ll keep whipping that dead horse as long as it amused their deluded target audience.

Better… although even Mr. Burns is better than him.

  26. Bodhisattva says:

They did the same thing to Bush – kept him off balance, distracted, even LOCKED HIS TRANSITION TEAM OUT OF THEIR OFFICES and the result was 9/11.

It’s apparent they’re hoping to help cause another MAJOR terror attack – there can be no other explanation for them wanting to keep the floodgates open for terrorists AND causing chaos on Trumps national security team – which they then will try to spin into: See, Republicans cause terror attacks!

  35. John Knoefler says:

Naw, the bigger scandal was when his office was raided before it was secured. Files opened and missing documents. Months later the documents turn up in Hillary’s possession covered with her fingerprints. And the torn up suicide note? Who tears up a suicide note? Why was it missed during the first search? It wasn’t there. That’s simple. Why was it torn up? It wasn’t a suicide note. Typewritten and no signature. Hardly any kind of a note at all. Bogus.

  37. John Knoefler says:

Not only private, but the FBI says they were totally innocent and sanctions were NOT discussed. Flynn actually politely demurred such discussion by assuring that sanctions would be revisited in the future once Trump takes office. That’s hardly a discussion. It’s a very smooth demurral and nicely done. If he had said there was no way sanctions would be discussed, then that’s actually discussing them. It’s shutting to door to future diplomacy without having approval. By demurring the whole question to the President at a future time it not only is a polite way of getting out of such a discussion, it legitimizes the office of the POTUS. It’s a very perfect response on all levels.
