Harvard Professor Gets Himself Subjected to Two Minutes Hate

Arguing is hard, especially when you are wrong. That is why leftists prefer shaming, censoring, and shouting people down to rational argument. Predictably, when Harvard psychology professor Steven Pinker tried to explain why this intellectual thuggery is driving people into the arms of the Alt Right, his fellow liberals denounced him as a thought criminal. Ben Shapiro — no friend of either liberalism or the Alt Right — pleads his case:

Let’s let Pinker speak for himself at greater length:

On tips from TCS III and Bodhisattva.

Make no mistake – Pinker is a pretty hardcore moonbat in some ways himself, and is hailed as championing some of the moonbat theories such as his belief that we are “born that way” (not just our sexual orientation, but other things as well) and “can’t help it”.

But giving him credit where due, he has spoken out against some aspects of moonbattery and as this post shows, is being punished for it.

Two minutes of hate. Nice reference.

Actually, Pinker’s book “The Blank Slate” is immaculately researched and presents pretty good evidence that most traits and behaviors are inherited, not learned. I don’t consider this “moonbat.” What I consider “moonbat” are both religious nuts and SJWs who dismiss genetics. If genetics don’t matter, then why do we have sperm banks? Why don’t women just breed with the local homeless drunk?

    Oh, please; you despise professors.

It’s time to take sides, including examining the side Pinker is holding. If Pinker’s tenets are mostly to disagree with another side based upon negation of liberties, then it is incumbent upon Pinker to ensure that he reflect on WHY he is even part of that side. So if this “normal Marxist” (my quotes) professor now can’t believe what’s happening, then it is incumbent upon him to look at the ROOTS of the antagonistic, fascistic, communist actions of the individuals that he is now condemning. And since those roots are, indeed, the very tenets he holds dearly, then he HIMSELF must put blame on his own past actions, UNLESS he recants and becomes a conservertive, or at least a classic liberal (which nowadays are one are virtually the same thing).

I agree with many aspects of “the blank slate” as far as claiming we do have certain instinctual behaviors, passed on by genes, certain things which are predefined in our nature, certain types of stimulus/response patterns that apparently tend to be inherited. However, he seems to take this to the extreme that many moonbats do, seems to support the idea that you’re “born gay” and “can’t help it” for instance, when this is proven wrong all the time. Such behaviors are not inherited, not DRIVEN by genes but rather may stem in small part from predispositions we’re born with and a mix of qualities that are basically a roll of the dice situation, but in the end how we behave is still up to us, a choice. Moonbats often tell me we actually have no freedom of choice and we’re going to react certain ways no matter what – the logical consequence of such claims is we just have to accept rapists, murderers, criminals and love them as they are because they couldn’t help that they were born with those traits and they’re just doing what comes natural just like everyone else.

I reject that interpretation, just as I reject those who try to claim some people can’t help but be alcoholics. You can always stop picking up the bottle or glass. I understand addiction is a terrible thing, but it can be overcome with effort.

  9. Bodhisattva says:

Sperm banks are in part so people can store sperm early in case they die or they get infertile or any number of other reasons. Yes, there are some who think that genius IQ and other traits can be passed on – but real life suggests otherwise. Real life suggests nurture plays a much larger role than people who follow Pinker suggest. It’s rage, a fad, to believe that most traits are inherited and fixed, just as it was a rage and a fad to believe the exact opposite, which is exactly what Pinker is saying with the title of his book, which is basically nearly the opposite of what he argues in the book, as it appears you know.

  10. Bodhisattva says:

There is proof positive that the human mind is not a completely blank slate. But we have to be careful what traits we start claiming are inherited or innate in some way and which traits are not.

  11. Chi_Huavara says:

His points on the Crusades and Inquisition need to be taken in greater context.

The Crusades were launched as a defensive war against Muslin raiders who were attacking Christian pilgrims for around 400 years before Christians finally decided to do something about it.

The Inquisition was a product of government tyranny and public hysteria, both of which demanded that heretics be punished. The state labeled anyone it deemed a threat to be a heretic, and thus used religion much in the same way that statistics today use science. How many times have we heard leftists call for horrific punishments for climate unbelievers? The Church used the Inquisition to help accused heretics escape death sentences from the state, and return to normal life. Most of the accused were acquitted.

Remember, everything the left preaches about is incorrect, lies and/or half truths.

Be careful with your sympathies here; this is an infra-squad squabble only. The left is angry because they like being able to label you “alt right” or extreme without acknowledging any data; otherwise they may intentionally expose the masses to information that calls their beliefs into question. Pinker is merely saying that you should wait until after you disregard their data to call them alt right.

Most people on the left do not think. They emote. Feelings are paramount on the left so when they hear something they don’t like, they react emotionally. Trying to explain the logic of what you’re saying just confuses them and makes them angrier.
